Ukraine to Romania
 

Coming from Russia in beginning of November, I would like to drive close to the Black Sea coastline towards Odessa. I really would appreciate some advise how to continue towards Romania then. My green card covers Moldavia. I think that I will need to cross Transnistria, but have no clue which border post to use and no idea which currency to use if I need to pay insurance or bordercosts in Transnistria. Should I save some Russian Rubles or, as I am in Novosibirsk right now, try to get some US Dollars. I am on a motorbike, so at this time in the year, would like to avoid snowy areas. Dont have to enter Transnistria. From Odessa take SW to Ovidiopol, then south toward Zatoka(cross the bridge over Nistru river estuary). Then north to ~Belgorod Dnestrovski, after that take west on route E87 which will lead you into Romania, at Galati, via Sarata-Tatarbunary-Izmail-Reni-2 miles through Moldova at Giurgiulesti-Galati.

its not even two miles in Moldova ... i remember measuring it at something like 1.4 km

If you have it on your green card then it saves you 25 bux of insurance to cross that 1.4 km.

As mentioned , from Odessa, head for Reni in the bottom corner of Ukraine, then Moldova and Galati.

Transdnistria is not necessary

Transnistria experience
 

On the other hand crossing Transnistria is quite an experience. This country is not recognized as a country from no other countries. I have crossed Transnistria from Moldavia on my way to Odessa. For the insurance they have taken EURO.
The Transnistrian custom workers have requested some bribe to let me go to Odessa :thumbdown:.

As Transnistria is not recognized as a separate country by Moldavia the Moldavian did not stamp my passport when I have crossed in Transnistria - for that reason the Transnistrian custom workers have told me that my papers are not OK:oops2:.

I did not wanted to pay and I have told them that if they do not let me pass I will go back to Moldavia and spend my money there instead Transnistria.

After 15 minutes of waiting they let me go to Odessa. :mchappy:

Visiting Tiraspol the capital of Transinstria was a interesting experience.

There is a Russian tank placed a statue in front of the Parliament building and being Saturday the brides were there taking pictures with the tank.
There is also a huge statue of Lenin there and a MIG fighter also placed as a statue not very far away.

I have came back in EU from Odessa on the very same way trough Transnistria doh

I just tried to cross Transnistria going from Chisinau to Odessa, but no go.
First checkpoint on the main road, steely-eyed officer told us to take another route.
Went south to Tighina, where one is only a few kilometres from Tiraspol, on the other side of the river.
But the officer in charge adviced me I would save time and money (esp money) going south and stay in Moldova. As it was getting late in the evening, with the family in the car, not wanting to spend the night in Transnistria, I followed his advice.
Frustrating, as it would technically only have taken an hour to cross Transnistria.
As it were, it took six hours to go to Odessa over Causeni - arriving at 2 a.m.
Interesting experience nevertheless - Tighina was a spooky place.
