Used Bike Sites Europe
Hello Moto People :)
Im an American spending this summer working on a farm in the south of France and am looking to buy a cheap used motorcycle while Im down thereso I can do some local touring on the weekends. I searched for posts about sites where people list used bikes in France, but didnt find anything. Does anyone know where I should look? Is there a craigslist type site everyone uses? Also is there a page on horizons where travelers list gear they want to sell before returning home? Ill be near the Spanish border as well? so any info or used bikes sites in Spain could be useful too. Thanks everyone! -Aaron |
Hello
You can try this German site, mobile.de - Deutschlands größter Fahrzeugmarkt. Suchen, kaufen oder verkaufen Sie Neu- und Gebrauchtwagen# you can search on diffrent country in the meny. Today i was about 200 motorcycles for sale in France. |
Try [url=http://www.2roo.com/]Annonces moto occasion
or http://www.leboncoin.fr/ I have used both of these, hope it helps |
A great resource for any English speaking people abroad is Angloinfo.com. Just find the Country, Region then join and post a wanted ad.

Registration - legal stuff?
Hi, I'm an American living in Poland (my wife is Polish so I have a Polish/EU residency card);
Not sure how it would work for you... maybe someone else on this board understands better than me... but: In most of Europe, unlike the States, they have residency registration requirements that go beyond just a Visa (will you be here on a Tourist Visa?). In order to register a vehicle you have to be "registered" at a specific address; this is either done with a rental contract with the property owner your are renting from or have someone (a registered property owner) willing to register you at their residence. Alternatively, you would need a trusted person (resident/citizen) willing to register the vehicle in their name and let you drive the vehicle. Which is the way I did it when I first got here, in Poland; I purchased a bike on Allegro.pl - a Polish version of e-bay - and a friend of mine registered the vehicle and purchased insurance in her name. Also, just to be covered, we drafted up a notarized letter giving me full legal control of the vehicle - should I be crossing any borders that required proof of permission by the "owner" (her) to operate/take the vehicle out of the country. She was willing to risk that I didn't do anything stupid and would take responsibility for things like speeding/parking tickets and I had to trust that she wouldn't arbitrarily take/sell the bike... had to be someone with which you have mutual trust and respect. (BTW, I was "blitzed" a couple of times by speed cameras in Germany but, evidently, nothing came of it as the photo is from the front and bikes only have license plates on the back... it might not always be that way though ;-) I know this all looks a little convoluted but, it may be worth confirming... just a thought. |
yes, that's what happened to me when I tried to buy a bike in Spain. Required the social security number at least, which requires patience to get. I was actually living there at the time, but gave up on buying a bike there because of the bureaucracy involved in getting the right documents together to actually register the bike.

bureaucracy in UK too?
Is it similarly bureaucratically difficult to register a bike in the UK ?
I have always fantacized about touring Europe starting from the UK. Since the costs of shipping my bike over would be more than the bike is worth, I figured on buying one in country. Am I up against the same difficulties? Another bubble burst ? Thanks, Brian H. |
