I didnt refer to a "bullshit" country -you did. I didnt refer to all the people being thieves -you did. I dont judge a whole country "so quick" - you said that! Please dont refer to words I never said. I understand what you're saying however, but let's be clear - rightly or wrongly Romania has a reputation for theft. So has Italy...but you can be robbed anywhere - certainly in the UK. I got stuff taken in Amsterdam but I dont blame the Dutch nation, so relax a little. In a very poor India, I had nothing taken. In Ploesti, however, I stopped my bike one rainy night to check a map, and out of the rain came a howling lunatic who grabbed at the stuff on the back of the bike, making me drive off away from the madman. But I dont think all Romanians are like this! And welcome to the European Union -it's good to travel in your country with less hassle than before. And that you can travel easily in Western Europe. Let's have more of that! But watch your stuff in the UK or someone WILL steal it! PS. UK citizens are NOT described as English, but British. This includes Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. Happy travels! See you at Horizons UK one day?!! |
Personally I close this topic.
I hope I'll meet you and I'll have the chance to show that RO is not the worst country in the world. If anybody wants to write me please write at santhasz@hotmail.com Best wishes Szabi |
Nobody said it was the worst in the world!

Lots of tourists always attract muggers. Just the other day an American tourist was robbed in Munich after drawing money from an ATM. Now Munich is probably the safest of the bigger cities in Germany. After touring RO several times on bike and campervan, and usually camping in the wild, I must say that I have never been harassed in any form. Coming back to Molly's first post: Hardly any traveller gets away unscathed. Somewhere. My tent was rifled on a GUARDED campsite in South Africa while I was snoring away happily. Probably not because they where hungry, but because I was so stupid to go to an ATM immediately before riding to the campsite. Hans |
Just recalled a message left to a topic, which i dont remember ...
He says he was robbed, beaten and left on the side of the road with practically nothing but his underwear and lots of injuries in IRAN. But he also wrote he was taken to hospital, visited every day, taken care with utmost sensitivity and even (if i recall correct) financally supported by iranians, for his losses and getting back home.. They are everywhere...good, bad & the ugly ... incidents like this are the possibilities of the game that we are all playing. Cheers, |

Guide - don't camp close to town. Try not to camp within sight of the road. Keep your campfire small .. and low. Cover any reflective surfaces (bike mirrors, rear reflectors. |

sh*t happens
hi there,
well Daniel, I am sorry to hear that you were robbed in Romania and I would like to thank you that you want to advise where to be more careful. I can say I was lucky, from my experience I know that there were no security problems with free-wild camping in Romania and I think it is not the expanded problem there now. I have been to Romania in 2001,2002,2003, I travelled Romania from the east to the west and from the south to the north, every time I choosed not so busy areas... big cities and so on to minimize the risk. I prefered the countryside, mountains, areas with sparse population before places with high concetration of people. I really enjoyed that country and its people... I had no problem at all ... I think that you have nearly the same chance to be robbed all over the Europe. My friends were robbed in Spain as well as in Germany etc.. bad people are everywhere... but please don't judge so quick njoy the travelling regards |
