Were to get free info about camping sites in Europe
Hi!
We are a couple of Chileans (my girlfriend and myself) that shipped our bike from Chile (in March) and we hope to get it here in Barcelona this week (after 2 months delay!! :mad2::mad2::mad2: ) Our Plan is to cross Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia before autumn (we are pretty tight in timing, thanks to the shipping company :mad2::mad2::mad2:). We are planing to use Couchsurfing, Legal camping sites and wild camping in case of need. I have been wondering if there's any free resource with good info about camping sites in this countries... (in South America I usually just go to a tourist info office or ask a guy in the street - easy for my as native Spanish speaker-, and in Oz we had an app in the phone - back in the days when we had a mobile number and internet hahaha). As I have been reading here, to wild camp should be ok (whith some common sence, which it happens to not be so common) http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...republic-75375 The Straight Dope On Wild Camping | Adventure Vagabond http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ping-add-48706 And, Can I expect to find showers in the petrol stations in the highways? Kind regards, safe routes and THANKS! Francisco. |
Right enough Francisco, common sense is not necessarily available in abundance.
Showers: yes, some service areas in western Europe have these in some countries, but not commonly so - it is difficult to be more precise, but you can find them at some places where the trucks stop over, as one example. Campsites in western Europe generally have good facilities. Some one else will have to answer about the rest of your itinery. Archies camping is a great database for a GPS: I use it on a cheap, car type (nuvi), garmin - just at the end of a day's ride when I want to find a site local to my position at the time. All of the sites come up on it, showing in order of distance from my current position which is very handy at the end of the day. Tourist information centres can be very good also for local information. Also, in tourist-like areas there will be signs toward the campsites. Hope this helps. |
Hi Walkabout:
Thanks for the hints!! I just looked at archie's and look awesome!!! Now I will try to figure out how to use it without internet or GPS. Cheers!! www.Facebook.com/thereandbackbymotorbike |
You can try www.eurocampings.co.uk for researching campsites across Europe. Each site has a listing of available facilities as well as reviews from campers. I find it very useful.

I use for my camping prep most time
Camping-Führer - Campingplätze finden und bewerten There you find most of them form all the networks like ACSI or CCI or what ever. |
Arches Camping POI's : ARCHIESCAMPINGS
Not all of them are correct, and there is a lot which are not there. If you drop him an email with one you've found then he'll add it in the next update. |
