Let's set the cat amongst the pidgeons!

Toyota Land Cruiser VX5.7L V8 2018 vs 2024 Nissan Patrol LE 5.6L V8?

Pros and cons?

All opinions welcome!

Sure, I'll bite: Patrols are for bored UAE yoofs to put huge turbos on. Land cruisers are for people who drink beer. ;)

For what it's worth I'd avoid both and look for a smaller, more economical engine.

The Patrol I had for two years was essentially standard, somewhat agricultural, and went everywhere (in the Congo) with zero problems.

The LC 80 we had for two years (which you may recall) was better equipped, equally capable (as near as makes no difference), but had more km and years and several items needed to be fixed (radiator exploded, handbrake rusted out, A/C fan motor wore out, front differential failed) however arguably these were simply a consequence of wear and tear.

Oh yeah. Suzuki Jimny FTW.

...and I guess it's worth suggesting that a Montero is a good alternative to the Patrol and LC; ours is excellent, has demonstrated equal capability to the others, and was (when we bought it) HALF the price of a LC (Patrols were not available, Nissan having reached its import quota at the time).

Why a V8? If you're stuck with having too much money I can provide much easier solutions

At the end of the day, and balancing my families comfort over several 1000 of K's travel, I have chosen to import a 200 series LC direct from Japan. We'll land it Duty Free so that's a massive saving but we have to obey the Kenyan Govs ban on importing any vehicle over 6 years old so that pushes the price up. Pics when it lands!

Hi
After many months of arsing around we’ve decided to buy an ex-NGO vehicle: a Landcruiser 78 series ambulance conversion.

Having driven but never owned and maintained one, can anyone share their experiences with me?

Many thanks in advance.

Enzo
