1995 dominator help needed
hi everone
im desperately in need of some technical help !!!!!! im supposed to be riding the holland track (western Australia) 400ks long no towns or fule , an im supposed to be doing it next week end over Easter ! my last two rides its developed a running problem between 3500rpm - 4500rpm it seems to hesitate, loss of power like its just going to run out of fule, but it will stay like that constantly un till you accelerate past 4500rpm, it still starts first time an ticks over perfectly Ive changed the obvious - spark plug, fule fitter / air filter an checked the electrical connections,,,, an also ive striped an cleaned the carb , changed the battery / rectifier / coil / ( i was lucky enough to have spairs ) but AAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH !!! it still does it .......... has any one had a similar problem ? or has any one got any ideas what it might be ?????????????? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks steve |
Given what you've tried I'd think about raising the needle in the carb one notch to richen up the midrange.

clean the tank and fuel filter, i think part of the fuel tap - did you run close to dry a little while ago? if OK buy new jets.
I would start with the choke however, common on these bikes and sounds like a choke problem. Ive had simular and yes it was the choke! |
thanks for the suggestions
hi guys
ive changed an cleaned virtually every thing an still no luck fixing it i think ive narrowed it down to a "possible" worn needle an needle jet i ordered the parts put they didn't arrive on time, so unfortunately i wont be able to go on my planned trip, the Holland track in western Australia .......... cheers STEVE |

every thing in the fule system has been meticulously cleaned an re cleaned ive ordered a new needle and needle jet would i be right in saying that there the only one that can were out ? im interested on your theory on the choke though ......... mine has total movement turns off an on fine ive checked it whilst riding an it functions perfect ......... the only thing that that is a bit suspicious is the plunger / starter valve (not sure what its called) seems a bit worn where it slides up an down............. was that what was wrong with yours ?? thanks STEVE |
hey steve, since you have tried the basics i recommend checking the vent line for the fuel tank also.i have had a similar problem a few years back and i changed everthing and same problem.i later found a small hole in my fuel tank vent hose.also check the float in the carb make sure it operates smoothly.let us know how it turns out.

Hi had same problem on my dominator and after much head scratching found that on the pilot jet there is an " O " ring:thumbup1: about 2mm in size mine was missing. replaced it and bike performed as it should do .Andy

fixed at last
after checking an replacing virtually every thing $$$$$$$ later , the problem turned out to be the spark plug cap $13 an it was fixed , i got it running at the correct mixture by replacing all the jets an it still ran crap , the only thing i hadn't replaced was the cap ! typical ,,,,,,,,,, thanks for all you susjestions tho cheers steve |
your problem is the fuel level in the carb
