2000 - XR650L jetting
I very confused about choosing the right jetting for my XR650L. I'm intersseted to do all the mods suggested by most of the web site I've seen. Air Filter, Snorkel... the BajaDesign seems to be the best and simpler choice. But the thing is they have two different kits the choose from for the XR650L.
I never work on carbs, is it simple to do as they say? Can someone have try either one or the other, I need advice. Thanks |
Hi,
The standard jet kit/vacuum piston mod is all you'll need, and it's quite simple to install if you have basic mechanical skills. I haven't tried the Dyno jet kit components, but they are rumored to give you a better power increase than the standard jet kit. Make sure you do the jet kit at the same time you remove the snorkel. Without the richer jetting that will be required, the bike will hardly run. If you're going to be travelling long distances, beware of making too many mods that require richening your jetting as you'll decrease your fuel mileage. Wright |
Wright - what exhaust do you run? I've just removed the exhaust tip and snorkel on mine without doing anything to the jetting and I'd say its better than standard. it does need re-jetting from 152 main and 50 pilot, but not by a whole lot. I'm going to try the 160 main, 55 pilot and vacuum/lift holes when I get the front wheel back ;-)

I run the stock exhaust with a Thumper Racing baffle in place of the stock baffle. I like it because it's much quieter than all the aftermarket exhausts - I want to keep my bike as quiet as possible and still get decent performance.

thanks. quiet is good! did you check clearance between the muffler and brake caliper. I was taking some jumps 5-6 feet high and realised that big cutout on the original is essential when the rear wheel comes all the way up into the mudguard.

Nope, I've never checked that specifically, though I've bottomed my bike very, very hard and haven't ever noticed any sign of them touching.
