25kw restrictor needed for Dominator?

I'm buying my first bike since I was a kid (I'm now a ripe old 31), and, as I want to do a trip down to Morocco next year, an NX650 Dominator seems to be a good choice for both on/off road use, especially as I'm a short-arse. I've got my provisional, had a few lessons and am now looking at buying... but I've had the devil's job of trying to find out whether the Dommie needs a 25kw restrictor for insurance. The Irish government don't know (surprise surprise), the insurance company (Carole Nash) either don't know or won't tell me, and lots of dealers are giving me totally conflicting opinions. In Britain (and some other European countries) I know you have the same 25kw restrictions. Does anyone know the answer for definite, or indeed where I can find the official answer. Thanks for your help on this.

ok shay

As stock the dommie puts out about 39bhp. Therefore it is above the legal power output for provisional / restricted licenses.

Look at http://home.clara.net/survivalskills...e%20Law%20says and it lists the dommie as ok, but only when restricted. Which basically means your gonna have to get a kit to put in the carb and restrict it.

The link on that page to the 33bhp restrictor kits doesn't appear to be working though.

I am 100% positive that this bike is too powerful to comply with the law in standard form. The reason it appears in the list is that people like Honda or the dealers, would make a selection of bikes available in restricted and de-restricted versions to satisfy the consumer, and the different license laws. Remember that in the UK at least, you can have a "light license" in which case a restricted "big" bike would also appeal.

Hope this helps you mate.

Hello

I pretty shure the 25kw retriction only apply for those under the age of 21. If you are older, you can by any bike you want. At least in Norway

Have a nice planning and trip

Frode

Thanks for the advice, guys. Looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet and get the bike restricted (unfortunatley, Frode, we don't have the over-21s rule here. Maybe I should move to Norway!) Take care,

Shay.
