Ive seen some DOT rated dual purpose, but not sure what percentage road/offroad im going to encounter.. thanks |
TKC80 are a popular choice also Heidenau K60 are supposed to be super hard wearing and grippy. Chris Scott has a review of them on his site. Heidenau K60 tyre review | Adventure Motorcycling Handbook
Not sure if they are any good in mud but have a search and see if they would suit you? |
Finally, Its hard to get a response from the HUBB, thanks for a reply, i'll look into it, ive only got a coupla weeks till i need to cross the border..

it's best to check with ADV and HUBB
ADV has 287K members so traffic is much higher. HUBB has better specialized information K-60 tire reviews Heidenau K60 tires - ADVrider |
+1 vote for the K60's (fitted to my F650 Dak)

Hi,
I used Mitas E-07 tires to travel all the way from southafrica back home to Europa. Mitas E07 are very long lasting tires but also have good grip while going through sand or mud and you can get them in the size your transalp will need. TKC80 are sand tires and are only used by people who want the cool knobly look and have the money to bay new tires every 5000 km. Specialy if you use them on strong machines or while riding tar the knobs can rip of. If seen that several times on overloadet tourist GSA. Riding the rough west coast through Africa part 3 The more People you ask the more answers you will get ;) Greetings, Tobi |
K60
The K60 is good tyre but not available anymore, now replaced by the K60 Scout. The Scout is very different from the K60 with respect to center line profile, basically there is no profile in the center as there is a wall all around. My dealer ( 8 times Dakar veteran) declared me crazy if I would take that tyre! So I did not. He is crazy about the TKC80 but I took the Metzeler Enduro 3 Sahara. An other dealer told me he supplied those to a Transalp who drove all the way from NL to Cape Town without change!
My experience is limited, bit noisy in the front, not at all in back. cheers, Noel |
K60 scout front tires are noisy when new, but that quickly goes away after a few miles.
only got about 600 miles on mine... so far no complaints |

What's more, answers don't necessarily relate unless you can say how relatively important pavement/off pavement are. If you don't know, how would we? If we don't know, what's the sense of recommending a tire? Mark |
