CRF 250L pannier racks, buy or make in Thailand

Fingers crossed I will be getting a CRF 250L in June, its been a long time coming after selling my XT600E. Then I will be able to start getting out again.

Does anyone know of anyone in Thailand that either sells pannier racks or can make pannier racks for it?

I will be buying the bike in Chum Phae, where I live, which is in the Chaiyphum/Khon Kaen area

Also if anyone has some designs for pannier racks to fit the CRF and doesnt mind posting them, that would be good too.

I want to use the racks with my Magadan 2 panniers.

Thanks

Wayne

Sure they can make them for you in Thailand, we got ours in Turkey. In both countries the bike is very popular.

I agree! Not bad. I don't know the exchange rate but assume to they are not priced at Touratech level! doh

They do stick out a bit further than I like. My DR650 ones tuck in very tight to the bike ... no room for fuel canister, but I don't need it with 5.2 gal tank.

If the Magadans still use the "throw-over" type arrangement, that's good, less strain on rear sub frame compared to bags that hang ALL their weight onto the pannier racks. Very hard on sub frame attachment points.

With throw over bags, the seat takes up most the weight and nearly all the shock from off road. The little arms on yours are a bit LONG, offset quite a bit from attachment points ... and remember, the attachment points on sub frame are the critical thing. If they are weak, then they will crack over time with loaded panniers riding rough road at speed.

The Magadan bags are good but IMO, way way too expensive for a made in China product.

But if it's in the budget! Go! For! It!

My $100 (used) Nelson-Rigg bags. Cheap, cheerful and expendable. In my experience, travel bags do not last forever ... not even the
Magadan bags at 10 times the cost of my Nelson-Rigg.

My next set of panniers will be these:

$180 but lots of good features similar to much more expensive bags. It's all made in China ... but quality levels do vary ... and even the Magadan bags have complaints from users.

If anything fails on Nelson-Rigg ... they send out brand new set. Mine have never failed (using them since 1997) ... but I'm very careful and don't crash a lot. bier

They are 2,400 baht plus 1,000 baht for the rear rack that goes with it, in dollars its about 106 and in real money about 77 quid, so not too bad a price IMO.

As for the Magadans, I already have a set which I why I am looking for a pannier rack

Yes I understand about the weakness but once i have seen them in the flesh so to speak I will be able to make a better call. It will be worth a day out to go and look
