Dommie rusty tank

hi
I left the tank of my dommie empty for a couple of months just to discover that the inside has become so rusty that I am afraid to put petrol again. Somebody told me that there are some chemicals to use...but couldn't remember the names of the product. Any help will be hihly appreciated.
thanks

Rusty tank

Hi,

Have not used chemicals before but have taken the tank off, put a bunch of pebbles inside with two cups full of oil/petrol mix and shake it around for a while. In Nigeria you could give someone 500 Nira to do the shaking for you and you will have a clean tank and he has a meal for the day :-)

Just remember to remove your outlet unit and put some Duck tape on all edges like the filler hole and outlet

Regards
Frank

Pebbles are a good idea. If anyone is where there is a yamaha shop available there is a yamaha two part rust remover that takes a rusty tank from red and crusty to bare grey metal. It is a remover in one bottle and a neutralizer in the the other bottle. Beware if your tank is older, rust may be the only thing holding it together. I have seen rust cause problems with fuel petcocks or shut off valves. You can put multiple filters in the fuel line but the rust will tear up the petcock seals and then your tank won't shut off.

thaks folks
I tried the pebble solution and it worked The inside of the tank still looks hopeful but now the fuel comes out pretty clean. The last pebble proved difficult to come out of the tank so I let it inside, I will keeping it for good luck.

safe ridings

Well, there you go, now the last pebble can also keep cleaning the tank as you ride :-)

Safe travels
