dominators are bulletproof , just take some oil , airfilter , chain, engine top up. you are going to have major fun:funmeteryes:

your dominator.
ive had 4 dominator's. most important thing to check is he inlet rubber between cylinder head and carburetor, make sure its not perished or has a small crack if this happens as it did to me the engine runs to lean and you burn out the valves and head. to check take a cigarette paper and hold it against the rubber if it gets sucked on to the rubber at any point you have a hole. other things i did was run a spare clutch cable beside the fitted one if i breaks its quick and easy to change. check fork seals and wheel bearings if there is a group of you some carry a spare inner tube for the front and the others for the rear saves a bit of space and don't forget a can or foam tyre repair and a pump.
if your route brings you through Romania contact me have a place you can stay. have a good trip, mike |
thanks mike, will definately check inlet carb pipe now, were all on varying ages off bikes , e reg n reg and 51 plate ,apart from slight changes in body panels , think the mechanics are pretty much the same , we were going to renew wheel bearings on all the bikes before we go, maybe next year if this trip goes well you may have visitors in romania, thanks again mike for the offer

Yes, great bike the Dominator. I've had mine about 6 years. Numerous trips to southern Spain and just returned from northern Germany.
All I would say, like Sinkers, is take, or be ready to buy, some engine oil. And check the level fairly regularly. Don't know if they are all the same, but I have to top mine up on long trips, sometimes more than once. So you also need something to get the oil from the can into the filler. I forgot my little funnel for this Germany trip, but a rolled-up used crisp packet worked OK with no spillage. If you do spill it, it makes a real mess amongst the electrics and top of the engine. My Honda XBR has the same engine, but 500cc, has done 80,000 miles and never been touched. Funnily it uses hardly any oil. Pretty bomb-proof engines I think. |
thanks for reply's. am getting used to the bike now, im used to r1's etc so being on the dom is a big change, must say dont think i'll be back to the sports bikes, the dominator is a great bike, we took them properly off roading at weekend and was amazing where they go, and not being to heavy there easy to control, go anyhere a mountain bike would and more , main things were changing are rearshocks to aftermarket and bigger fuel tanks, gonig to take array off cables oil plugs filter etc. will probably start a trip thread just before we leave so will keep everyone upto date on how the trip goes and how the bikes perform.
thanks again allan |
