Honda Wheels (Dommie / XR6)
 

Hi -

Does anyone know if disk-rear XR600R wheels will fit my 1989 Dommie? I called Honda UK and they said that the hub castings *may* be identical, but that they would *still* have different part numbers because they are linked to the model.

So far I have established that:
1) The XR6 rear is an 18, a more useful size for dirty tyres
2) The XR6 uses a totally different swingarm
3) Front and rear disks are same specification on both bikes (also use same wheel bearings)
4) The XR6 does not have a cush drive, the NX does
5) The XR6 uses the same speedo drive as the NX

All of this came about because I was planning to rebuild my quite rotten wheels (with an 18 rear) when I saw some mint XR6 dirt wheels with powder-coated hubs, new HD s/s spokes, new disks and even new tyres on eBay. They were *very*cheap, so I can always sell on if it doesn't work out.

Questions:
1) Will the non-cush drive knacker the NX output shaft / sprocket carrier?
2) Is it likely that the sprocket and disk off-set are the same?
3) Is the 18' rear the same total diameter as the 17'?
4) HAS ANYONE ELSE DONE THIS?

Will report back once the wheels have been delivered. If I can verify what needs to be done to achieve this mod, I will report back with bearing/ axle combinations and so on. I have heard from various sources that either: the XR6 uses a much higher spec rim, or that the wheels are as-near-as-dammit identical, from different people. Sheesh.

My NX has the quik-rot (tm) gold rims, BTW.

Hey I would be very interested to know if the 18 will fit on the back of a dommie because I am struggling to find a 17 that will fit my dommie I have the original d.i.d wheels and they are slowly turning into a pile of white oxidised dust. Honda will sell me a original over here down under for $750 but I can get a 18 for about $200 by my reckoning an 18 will rub on the swing arm. I'll be interested to hear

no it does not fit
the xr wheel is "solid"
the nx wheel has transmision dampening

but you can oways by spokes and use a nx hub and xr rim

In the latest ADB mag the guy fitted an NX650 hub to his RTW XR650L - as it has cush drive.

So you just need to determine if the XR600R wheels fit in the XR650L frame dont you?
