Honda XR 190L
I think a Honda XL 190L would fit be well for a South American trip.
But I need to get some luggage with me. Anyone that have used this bike and knows about a luggage system ? Hard or soft. Rack is preferred. A rack that can hold a Givi top case, and some panniers. = I can't bring my workshop with me and fabricate something there = Thanks |
It looks very similar to my XR125L and to the best of my knowledge there is no ready made hard pannier set for that bike, I modified some frames from an R80G/S and used BMW panniers which worked pretty well but soft luggage might be easier.

That looks great.
My problem is that my great plan is to buy an XL 190L i Colombia. And tour South America. Some time when ..... That makes it harder to modify things. I have found a frame for XRE 190 DLX that they sell in Brasil. https://www.rbmotos.com.br/suporte-l...-honda-xre-190 I could probably modify that. If I were home in my own garage. With my tools. But maybe that is the way to go. To start with a frame for XRE 190 DLX. Modify to fit XL 190L. And add a Givi top case. And Givi or Lomo side cases. But I am in Europe, The bike will be in Colombia, the frame in Brasil, and the panniers ?? At we meet in Bogota ? Everything should be much easier to modify and test at home. This is the only drawback to go for such a nice bike. The alternative is to go for a Royal Enfield Himalayan. And use their standard panniers. Than it is ready from start. = I have a old Honda NX4. With some kind of frame. Bought from Brasil. The frame holds a Givi E450 top case. And has square shaped frames for side panniers. I will try to mount Lomo panniers dry bags. When they are back in stock. So I can buy set. https://www.lomo.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000...0.html#SID=118 I love this 150 kg bike. Even it is an old lady. = |
Luggage
Erik,
I just bought a XR190L to go from Mexico City through central america and saw your post asking about luggage. Did you ever get it worked out? From the different posts involving photos of the 190s, it looks like most people went with soft side cases with rigged up frames for structure, and a duffel for the rear. No idea what brands or anything they used though. |
Mercado libre colombia
Lots of stuff, search honda xr190 equipaje |
I rented an XR150L, same bike but carbureted, for a trip in Vietnam. Awesome for what it is. Mine had a cargo rack on the back where my backpack was strapped down. No secure helmet box, to be fair, but for the short trip I had, I took the chance (with the rental company's cheap helmet).
I think with its ubiquity in South America, your best bet would be to go to a local metalworker/garage and have a custom pannier rack welded up? You could get it made to match the exact luggage setup you would want. Bring the softbags from home, show them to the local garage, tell them to make a support frame for them. You can buy a waterproof duffel to strap on the back seat locally. |

https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx...2-9fcc15191055 I could probably mount a water proof duffel with this though so Ill look into that. I'm going to go to a motorcycle store today to see what solutions they can offer though. I kind of just want to go cheap and local, but I am also looking at the Mosko Moto 80L Reckless setup but I'd be terrified of it getting stolen considering I cant lock it and its like $800. |
Forgrav:
"I did exactly what you said but the only thing appearing is this one item which is no where close to a full frame." I was answering Eric-G, for Colombia; you just surfed in on his thread asking about Mexico which isn't even in South America. maybe you should start your own thread |

Considering the XR190L is made and Brazil and sold in many latin american countries I do not think a separate post is warranted. Anyways, heres an update on what I have so far: For anyone trying to outfit their XR190L what I ended up deciding on was just doing a 60L waterproof duffel. I went to an accessories store to see if they had any and a 50-60L fits just fine if you put it parallel to the bike along the backseat. This is the one I ordered https://www.amazon.com.mx/gp/product...ZWL4V710&psc=1. I also got the one thing I could find on mercado libre in Mexico for the XR190L in terms of a luggage rack https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx...d=174585486711. It doesnt seem there are any other options for this model, at least not in Mexico. I asked the Honda store, looked online, and asked the accessories store guy here and havent been able to find anything. The accessories guy said maybe I could have one custom made, but it seemed like alot of effort and Ill be taking my bag into wherever I stay with me every night anyways so for me I didnt feel it was worth it to build a frame and find hard cases. Thats why I just decided to go with the little backplate which I'm not sure Ill actually end up using, but I got just in case I wanted to try and add anything else. Anyways, best of luck to anyone else looking to outfit their 190! I havent taken it too many places yet, but so far its been a great little bike! |

Besides Mosko Moto, there is Giant Loop. I've used both and each has its own unique advantages. I think rackless is the best option for the 190. Weight is a major issue with a small moto. |
Hello
I just ordered a brand new Honda XR190L (starting from Bogota to Patagonia) as well and I'm now in the process of equip my bike. I brought my saddlebag (Enduristan Blizzard) with me. I noticed that the original heat shield doesn't run that low and I'm afraid that it will burn through my saddlebag. Do you have any experience? I found some online, but they have a long shipping duration from china.. Secondly, i want handguards, but I cant seem to find a robust one, that would not bend after a crash.. The honda-dealer has more like windbreaker in stock that are mounted at mirrors. Any experience shared is appreciated. Thanks. |
Any repair / metal workshop can make up something easily for the heat shield, and for the hand guards. Neither are particularly complicated. The bike shops may be able to as well.
Go to a dirt bike shop for the hand guards. Hope that helps! |

So I’m about 1.5 weeks in and my buddy and I decided to just go with duffle bags strapped to the back. So far it has worked incredibly well. They can easily unbuckle from the bike and we have all of our important stuff/documents in separate backpacks so that if we do need to get off the bike, we just take those with us and only have clothes in our big bags so we aren’t too worried about theft. I have the Osah dry pack 60l (but any waterproof motorcycle duffel should also work) which I bought for around $50 (if I remember right) on Amazon in Mexico. It comes with straps that work perfectly with the 190L. So that’s one option for you, if you don’t need more space than 60l, which I actually feel is quite a lot, unless you are carrying a ton of spare parts, then this setup will work for you. Also you are spot on about the heat shield not being enough as well as there being no support on the sides to prevent anything from hitting the tires. Other people have mentioned that you could have a custom support system built to keep any soft bags from hitting the exhaust or tire. Based on other 190s for sale, it looks like that was something fairly common to do if you want to add side bags. With the setup we have now, we didn’t have to do this and we didn’t really want to deal with the time and effort it would take to have this setup properly. Hope my experience helps and best of luck! Also, I’m adding a photo so you can see how we did it. Attachment 26473 |

I ended up finding an heat shield that someone welded it on a clamp.
In the end the plastic stock cover was to flexible and burnt the bag in a small area. But its still working. |
