NTV 650
Hello all,
any comments on the NTV650? Is it a good reliable machine? What goes wrong with it? How many km`s to expect before trouble? regards John |
My two bob's worth.Good solid town bike with tendency to brutishness thanks to V twin torque, shaft drive and short chassis.Check exhaust box is OK.Enjoyable traffic bike but I couldn't relax on it!Cheers.

i owed 1 for two year now, didn't have any real troubles with it so far. drove it from holland to the ukaine and back via bosnia, great bike, good climber. but not very comfy on long trips because of the low sadel, so folded legs (i'm 1,83). but Brutish? no it call it docile. i'm planning to buy a KLE 500 but i'll defenatly keep the NTV to

o and mine has done 60,000 now and its a early P version (cant remember the year but think +- 1995). but i'm the second (at least) owner so i don't realy know if it had any troubles before. i have the impresion that the neutral isn't what it's suposed to be (bit slipery but no real problem) had the front wheel bearings repleased ones, and a leaking fork, but i have been told that can hapen with any bike.

Sorry if this is sort of off topic, but is the NTV650 engine the same as the Transalp 650?

The engine is similar to the Africa Twin Trouble depends on how much you take care. Mine got little care and oil + a lot of abuse and it got me far. I messed up my gearbox @ 125k and I notived more people having had the same problem, but still with some tlc... |
Little gems
I'm preparing for a summer trip on my 'new' ('93) NTV, I had one of these years ago for commuting in London. Having done a few prep rides lately (up to 250 miles a day on a variety of roads) I am really looking forward to taking this bike to the Pyrenees then back to blighty via scenic parts of France.
Reliability is legendary, economy fantastic, no-chain, easy riding position, light and easy to thow into turns (I'm thinking of all those mountain passes!). I can't wait. John |
As reliable bikes go, an NTV must be pretty close to the top of the pile, by all accounts - witness the number of them used as Despatch bikes here in London. I think the engine is essentially that as used in the Transalp, probably with slightly different ignition/cams/gearing etc. I used to ride one in the 90's and found it a nice ride with a good brake and typical quality Honda finish i.e. good! They're getting on a bit, now, though.
