Seat height on AT

Hi,
I'm getting an Africa Twin and am a bit bothered about the seat height. I've sat on a friend's AT and could just touch the ground. Is there away of lowering the height by couple of inches without altering the suspension as I don't want to compromise the ground clearance? I had thought of getting some foam removed, Does anyone know of someone who does this? Cheers Del Boy.

I had mine re-done with a lower rider seat and gel pad by Melvin Hunter in Coventry (cost £170 but is a lovely job).

For about £15 you can get the foam re-shaped/lowered by GA Wells & Son in Shepshed.
Have a look at this thread on the XRV site...

You've got two options;

Adjust the seat, by removing the cover, 'scooping' out some foam, and refitting the cover. It's only stapled on, so could probably be done at home. Also see the links above to professional seat people, or do an internet search for a whole host of companies. The downside to this approach is that it changes the relationship between footpeg and seat. If you don't mind bending your legs a bit more, which is important when racking up the miles, then this is a feasible approach.

Alternatively adjust the suspension, by dropping the forks through the yokes, and matching that with a 'lowering link' in the rear suspension linkage. The disadvantage to this approach is that the bike has reduced ground clearance and reduced suspension travel. If you're mainly riding on-road, where mega suspension travel isn't necessary, then this is a feasible approach.

Hope this helps.
