Service info for domi
 

Hello Everyone,

Have just bought a 2000 V-reg Dominator for a trip to australia next year, can't seem to get a service manual have tried to download from honda site but keeps failing, can someone let me know the basic things to look out for in a service when i am doing it myself.

I have read about an oil strainer in the downtube that needs cleaning from time to time but i can't see it on my bike so it might be for an earlier model.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I took a look at that site, it's got a manual for 88-89 domi but i dont think that will do for the 2000 bike but i will try it and see, i might get lucky.

I living out the ardacrusha road near parteen, how long since you were in ireland?

I had a 1997 Dommie and did 16,000 miles on it, all trouble free. From what I can recall the oil strainer is at the bottom of the downtube and will become obvious when you remove the drain plug to change the oil (there's another drain plug I think on the left hand side/underneath the engine ).

The engine is very reliable and easy to service, tappets every 4,000m, engine oil and filter every 2 to 4,000m depending on how hard the engine is being used, air filter when you think it needs it.

You might want to think about changing the rear shock , especially if you plan to carry luggage as they are very softly sprung; apart from this do the usual bike preparation and off you go!!! I ran Continental TKC 80's, a good all round tyre and you should see 6,000miles from the rear and atleast double that from the front.

Thanks for the reply's, one more question, has anyone tried to fit an oil pressure light to the engine and is it possible and worth the bother??

i think the pressure sensor should be connected to the primarie oil line, wich means drilling in the oil filter cap or heving a special thing that extends the output to the head.
i see no use in it, the bike is not worth the investment.
