XL600 (LMF - '86) - Output Shaft Seal
Does anybody know if there is a simple way to replace the "output shaft seal" without opening the engine.
Is it possible to simply remove the front sprocket and then extract the damaged seal and replace with a new seal? Has anybody actually done this before? If so, what sort of time scale does it require to undertake this work? If you do have some advice, please respond ASAP as the bike is due to leave for a big trip next week. Thanks |
Just checked the manual in our workshop - I work in a Honda bike shop until my next trip - and the seal just pulls out (either prise it out or screw a self-tapping screw into it and pull it out) and just push a new seal in. No engine strip required!!

Thanks for the heads up mate.
Will give that a shot and hopefully it works. Mark |
When fitting the new seal, try & find a piece of thick walled tube that use can use as a drift. Tapping the drift gently with a light hammer will aid you in keeping the seal square to the engine which in turn can prolong the seal's life.
