xr650r info
just picked up a 650r for a 3 week trip into morocco. Can anyone tell me a couple of things - oil changes/service intervals? I've heard 600 mile oil changes are recommended, seems a bit excessive for non competition use?
Also will a big 20l plus acerbis/ims tank run ok without a fuel pump? |
oil changes around 4,000km are fine with semi-synthetic oil.
IMS tank needs its pump after going onto reserve (about 18 litres). they´re very reliable. we had a spare in oz, but didn´t bring it to africa |
thanks, I was figuring around 2-2500 miles would be about right.
Would be nice to keep things simple and go without the pump, maybe the acerbis 23l would be ok? It looks high enough from what I can tell |
the IMS has the pump on its underside ... don´t leave home without it!
I don´t know about the acerbis. nice and simple? wrong bike, dude! if you get the IMS tank, do not attach the bottom wings to the radiators. at high speed, they flex and pull the rads apart and, in a tumble, the rads can get mushed. get Overland Solutions to make you a brace to protect the radiators. |
The 24 litre Acerbis tank does not need a fuel pump.
but the radiator still gets squashed when you fall off. Ernie made me a simple brace to protect them. the acerbis is a great strong tank and you can extend it with an under seat tank that matches.(14 extra litres) I wish the front tank was bigger though! because the under seat tank makes the bike too tall. a 44 litre Aqualine tank is availabe. but it is £2000 and includes a new exhaust system to fit round it. 44 litre front tank ... sounds like the best way to carry the necessary. my XR650L has 43 litre main which I prefer to either my XR650R set up (29 litre front and 13 rear right + 11 water rear left) or the Acerbis rear which tends to split, losing most of its contents
