Sounds good! :thumbup1:
Was disappointed that I couldn't make it up to QLD for the last one. This should make attending my first meeting much easier! |
I have both dates in my calendar and will have to see closer to the time if I can attend one or maybe both.

Count me in
Hi guys
Count me in. Last year was my first and i'm hooked. I'd also like to volunteer myself as a presenter. I gave a presentation on "Travelling with technology" at Daybro last year that i honestly thought would be a fun 'filler' but seemed to go down quite well (i'd welcome any feedback). |
SAS your presentation was great. I still have the notes I made from it. I think most people found it of great value. I am sure it would be well received at the vic meeting as well.
|
What a great resposnse so far ahead.
The main organisers for this one are Anthony and Janet Morrison and I've just received an email from them with some details, which are below: On behalf of the people of Cavendish we would like to invite all World Motorcycle Travellers (or those planning to travel) to our town next October. This will be our first HUBB meeting and the first one in Western Victoria and we are planning to have a good time. Date Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th, 2013 Place Cavendish Recreational and Camping Ground 37°31’21.85”S. 142°02’35.76”E Cost $ Saturday night meal Pay at time of ordering meal. Camping fees Pay caretaker on arrival (currently $6 per person per night) Cavendish is a small town of about 150 people, we have a hotel called the Bunyip Hotel a Post Office and a hall; the only shop closed down some time ago. The people of Cavendish are a very friendly and helpful and in the past have hosted over 300 Ulysses members at the camping ground. The Bunyip Hotel is open 7 days a week and serves amongst other things tea/coffee, light refreshments and meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For food and fuel the nearest town is Hamilton (about 30km to the south). There are plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding area. Cavendish has the Settler’s Walk which is well worth walking, including an old jail and a settler’s cottage (about 1.2 km total length) and is a short walk from the camping area. Nearby are the Grampian Mountain Ranges and the Black Range. At this time of the year many flowers and other fauna are to be found, many are only found in this area. To the south is Port Fairy (stop on the wharf for fish and chips) and Portland. The area to the south is also an old volcanic area featuring extinct volcanos, lava flows and lava tubes. The camping area is a very large public camping ground with a limited number of powered sites. As you enter the camping area it is fairly level with the powered sites nearby. You can camp here or you can go over the cattle/sheep crossing and down the hill to a very picturesque area on the Wannon River and camp near the river (you may need mosquito nets). The showers/toilets are at the top near the Cavendish Football Club rooms which we will be using for the forums etc. There is also a camp kitchen consisting of a covered area with a bbq and dish washing facilities. Local service clubs and associations will cater at the Football Club rooms from Friday morning to Sunday midday; they will provide breakfast, lunch and tea and other light refreshments. Itinerary for the weekend Friday meet and greet Saturday Forums (to be announced) Saturday night Social meal (at the Bunyip Hotel, short walk from the camping area). We are planning on booking the hotel out, so please indicate when booking whether you want to have a meal (it is a good quality pub meal) Sunday Rides - 2 to pick from Ride 1, Bitumen. Byaduk caves or Mt Eccles National Park, explore the local volcanic places of interest. Ride 2, Hard packed gravel and some sand. Visit local native paintings and a short scenic walk in the Black Ranges. We are looking forward to meeting everyone Anthony and Janet Morrison Organisers |

If you're still looking for presentations, Nadsicles and I will be happy to tell you about our ride this summer to China on rubbish bikes, (Chinese scooters) and/or our trip from London to The Gambia on Honda C90s. We should both be in Oz then, providing we haven't been arrested or something somewhere else.
|
Great only six hours to get there from home so could be attending. If l can get some time off.
Last year long wet ride to Queensland :rain: but fun all the same. Hope to see if could do both but Vic is just a weekend trip. See you therebeer |

You're safe with the Motogp, it's on the weekend of 20th October!

Thanx for that great invite, it was very well done. I particularly liked the great photos. I haven't been to a HU meeting since 2008 as they are too far from Adelaide but I fully intend to be at this one. I've camped in the Grampians both here and in Scotland and only death will stop me attending.
I look forward to meeting our gracious hosts and all the interesting dreamers I met at the last one. U ra best, Tony Ward. |

But seriously we are going so if any one wants to tag along let us know. We will not be coming straight back though. |
ScooterGal is in da house!!
I may have to stand in for Belle and Nads tho as it's unlikely they'll arrive in time. I'll get the slides from Belle and pretend to do the Mongolian presentation. :confused1: I'll be riding the GOR the weekend prior if anyone wants to meet up a few days beforehand. |
Scootorgal
Hi Scootorgal ,
Just read your blog, what a trip. Should be a great presentation. We need to organise timings etc, so would you mind emailing Helen on helen@thechangeteam.com.au with the details of the presentation? Thanks, Shane BTW, sometimes it takes me three tanks before I can thinks straight! |
Camping fees at Dayboro
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that there has been a slight price rise for the camping fees at Dayboro. They are now: $12 Powered Site (2 adults) $10 Non-Powered Site (2 adults) $3 each for additional campers per night There are also less powered sites available as the show society has put in a new building. No worry though, as there are plenty of power points both in and out of the buildings to re-charge laptops, phones, etc. The new building we may be able to use as a "break-out" room. BTW, we have permission to use the oval for rider training, so looking for volunteers for this. Regards, Shane |
Just registered for this meeting. Any indication as to the numbers that have signed up already. Never been to an event like this before really looking forward to it.
|
I don't have numbers for any of the events as yet, will be able to start getting these sorts of details together in mid-July. All three events - Dayboro, Cavendish and Perth - promise to have their own flavour but all also promise to be absolutely great with equal parts inspiration, education and just plain good fun. We should have rough timetables for oth Dayboro and Cavendish by late July.
Regards, Shane |
thanks for the response. I've subscribed to this thread to catch any updates.

Tentspace on ADVRIDER.COM
Hi everyone,
Just thought I'ld post up somethong about the "Tentspace" thread on advrider.com. The links associated with this thread are: Tent Space Sign-Up Thread - Page 64 - ADVrider Tent Space Map - Page 6 - ADVrider https://maps.google.com/maps?q=http:...339844&t=m&z=3 Or a Google Search: http://tentspace.ridetoeat.com/artents.kmz I'm thinking that with three HU meetings in Australia this year, this may be an excellent resource for those travelling as well as an opportunity for people who want to "give back". I'm also thinking that I may well use this a fair bit next year when I travel down to the Adventure Travel Film Festival again ( work and study permitting ). I'll post onto the relevant HUBB sections for the other HU meetings as well. Regards, Shane |
Tentspace
Thanks Shane, all this stuff comes in handy.........:thumbup1:
|
Hi Jo,
At this point, it looks like I will be able to make it and so will hopefully see you there. It does look like an excellent meet shaping up. Regards, Shane |
Hey Shane, you should try and get to the Perth meeting as well and make it a tri-factor...... You may win the prize for attending the most meetings in the one year !!!bier
|
Anyone from Adelaide going to this meet ??
|
Australian Road Rider magazine Travel Special
Hi everyone,
Latest issue of Australian Road Rider is their Annual Travel Special and Horizons Unlimited gets a guernsey. A 10 page spread with a focus on Martin Williams, Jan and Paul Dwyer and Haydn and Diane Durnell. If you have friends thinking about coming but not sure, this is an excellent conversation starter. Regards, Shane |
Hello
Can somebody tell me how I register for the Cavendish meet. i must have missed a link somewhere? Thanks Callum |
The way to get to registration for all events is on the Menu above, Events, then you'll be on the events listing page for everything.
The REALLY easy way to register for the Cavendish Victoria HU Travellers Meeting though is here :) See you there! |
Great thank you
Michele and I will see you there. Callum |
Australian Road Rider and Australian Motorcyclist magazines
Hi everyone,
For those who haven't been to HU Travellers Meeting/Overland Expo and want to know what it is all about there are two different and separate articles in Australian Road Rider and Australian Motorcyclist magazines respectively. The ARR article is a series of interviews with different volunteers and travellers and the AMM article is a report from last years meet in Dayboro. Both are good reads and hopefully will encourage a few more to register for what should be a series of cracker events. Regards, Shane |
Any other four-wheel orientated people going? I don't want to be the only non-bike person there. :taz:
|
bnicho, I don't know offhand, but don't worry about it - I know for sure several of the folks on bikes have a 4wd at home, and they use what makes sense to them on the day. You won't find it a problem, we've always been open to all methods of travel!
see you there! |
Be good to have some other enthusiastic 4WD oriented people coming along.
See you there Callum |
Saturday Night meal
Can someone remind me what's the go with the meal on the Saturday night. If I need to book a spot, who needs to be informed.
Cheers Neil |

Hmm maybe we won't make it after all .
Michele is now in a cast with a broken fibula after a slow speed motorcycle incident a couple of weeks back unfortunately. So for now our plans are a little grounded. Will see what transpires over the next few weeks and take it from there. If she is comfortable in a pair of MX boots then we will endeavour to make it but she will only be out of her cast about 10 days so will wait and see. Regards Callum |
How's this event shaping up:confused2:? It's all gone quiet on the comm's front for quite a while now.
Looking forward to it.bier Neil |
Still On I hope as I can't make Dayboro
G'day Barney (Grant too),
Barney, I looked it seems it's on and I am going! might just be you and me in which case I'm buying ;-) Grant, if I bring a couple of images (1 bike, 1 not and others ...) will you do a critique in public or private? tia, build |
I'll be there - so that makes 3 ;-)
|
We've been flat out - two meetings in the last three weeks, and currently on the road to LA and a plane to Oz...
So yes it's very much on - current registration for Vic is at 86! Build, yes, happy to critique - a FEW pics - in public or private, up to you. Callum, it's actually ok to come in the Landy - we're not fussed what you ride/drive! See you all there! |
Is this event still accepting bookings?
Hi, I'm a potential last minute starter for this event but when I went to register I received a message saying the event is fully booked and no more online registrations willl be accepted.
Can anyone confirm if this is true, and whether or not it is possible to still arrive on the day without pre-registering? Thanks, Garry. |
Quote:
Very sorry, but yes we're full up. The venue will be absolutely bursting at the seams as is. We've had many more registrations for Cavendish than expected. Hope to see you next year! There's still Perth... :scooter: |
Oh no!! Have had these dates written in my calendar for 12 months, my husband and I have both finally secured time off work, but as I've only just got around to register I've now missed out!!
doh Hopefully ya'll have a great meeting and it runs again next year so we can have our first HU experience! |
Camping?
Is it possible to just go and camp for those of us in Australia hoping to meet other travelers? Might know someone with a last minute spare ticket if not.
Can you book a camp spot early, or do you have to just show up earlier to get one? -Elisa Travelbugblues.wordpress.com |
Damn, I was also really keen to go, but too late with registration. If any spots become vacant or if somebody won't like to sell a ticket they can no longer use then I'm well keen.
James |
James your an still turn up on the day and pay.

Just wanna check .. the event is full?? I plan to be there but now I saw this... I still wanna be there.. Asi |

:(The best plans of etc-etc. Had this great plan, head up to Canada to catch the Nakusp HU meet, ride some adventure in Canada and the US, then arrive back home in time to catch the Cavendish HU meet. Had a great time at the West Canada meet, rode off road in BC for over a week, then toured from Jasper down into the US, great riding and meeting up with friends. Now, after all the plans I miss out on Cavendish, bummer, never thought that entries would close, but then Victorian events can attract large crowds.
Which brings me to think, that perhaps there is now room for yet another HU meet in OZ, NSW. Regards and hope (:D:Dthe lucky ones) enjoy the Cavendish meet. Ben |
what is Full? Events or campground?
I also have friends who want to come from Adelaide. Can they attend? We don't need a campsite, just the events. Ta.
|
Full or not??
I guess we really need to hear from one of the event organisers with regards to how full is full. :confused1:
I quoted Grant Johnson's post from week or so ago as he stated that it's full as they've had many more registrations than expected. Since the I'm wondering how many have pulled out? who knows. Hopefully these questions will catch the of an organiser. |
Quote:
The basics are simple: 1: Camping space 2: Presentation roomS - at least 2 pref 3 3: catering / food available on site 4: Ideally cabins on site for those who don't wish to camp, or Hotels, B&B etc nearby. 5: Good riding in the area 6: and most important - a sensible price! Look at showgrounds, youth camps/boy scout type places, campgrounds are occasionally possible. Make it happen and we'll come! :) |
Quote:
If we allow more, then we'll have severe overcrowding, annoyed people, fire marshall issues, and a generally bad experience for EVERYONE, not just those who register late or "just show up", and that's not fair to those who did it right and registered early. We'd love to have a bigger venue, but someone needs to find it. Queensland hit 170 people this year and it was a fantastic event, and will be even bigger next year, so they're looking for a new venue now. Vic could be as big or bigger, it just needs the right venue. See the post above for what is needed. Please take this as the final word on availability for Cavendish, if there is any change, cancellations etc I will post it here. to those who have registered: Well done, see you there! |
Update - camping is full too!
|
Anyone know if there is a program available for this event ???
Joe |
Quote:
However a temporary, flexible one that can and will change should be available a few days before. :) Bikes have a bad habit of breaking, so it changes! We'll post it on the web page and here when we have it. :D |

See you next week :mchappy: |
Any one with a spare ticket pm please would love to attend the vic event

Blimey this has come around quick. Better start thinking about packing my gear/bike ready for the weekend. bier

Cavendish Victoria Meeting Announcement:
Due to the unprecedented demand, our local organiser Anthony has gotten creative and powerwashed the floors in an additional and larger room (the footy club changing rooms!) and ordered more chairs, so we're okay for a few more! don't expect posh, but good enough! :) Camping is ok too I'm told! The Pub can serve 120 people and we could go over that, so self catering isn't a bad idea, or plan to be patient! Part of the HU way: you're in training to be travellers, right? So if it's a little rough and ready and there's some lineups, well, that's part of travel right? :) Be flexible and go with the flow! see you there! |
Schedule for Cavendish is posted!
See the info page, or direct download link to the pdf.
NOTE: This is NOT the final schedule - it's the schedule we'd LIKE to use and is current TODAY. It CAN and WILL change. |
Great news
Great news guys looking forward to the weekend.
See you there. Just need to pack now Ray |
Great work making room for a few more.
Look forward to seeing you all there. Callum |
We're leaving tomorrow morning from Wodonga area. Hoping to learn from fellow travelers!
Rob + Kath. |
Judging by the forecast I'll be packing my wet weather gear :rain::rain::rain:

Meeting is over, and a great time was had by all!
We had a terrific turnout of 131 people, and we managed to JUST BARELY squeeze everyone into the presentation room for Sherri Jo's talk on Saturday night!
Anthony and Janet Morrison were the organizers for the event and outdid themselves with a fun and entertaining time for all. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...n-P1010182.JPG http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...n-P1010177.JPG A beautiful camping spot was a real highlight of the event, surrounded by shady gum trees and overlooking a small river flowing by. There were travellers from Canada, USA, Germany and Scotland! And a number of people that attended the Queensland event two weeks earlier rode all the way down, including Marcos Linhares, Guy Basile, Jacquie Kennedy, Valerie and Brian Cullinan, and on a huge ride, Frank Wheeler (76) and Hein Prinsloo (with sidecar) rode all the way on Postie bikes! Sunday morning, Anthony organized a ride out to a local sheep farm for breakfast and were treated to a sheep shearing lesson: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...n-P1010189.JPG and later on the ride got a terrific intro to the local bush flora and fauna by a local expert. a few photos below. If anyone has more please post them up! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...P1010204-1.JPG http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...n-P1010191.JPG and tree-hugging a huge old gum tree: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve...n-P1010194.JPG Our thanks to Anthony and Janet for all their hard work, and the presenters and volunteers who helped make a great event, and to all of those who came, it was great fun, and we're delighted to have met all of you! Grant and Susan |
Brilliant weekend!
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1Fe2SSQh_J...00/1011_02.jpg Thanks to all the organisers. My photos and blog are here :D Feel free to friend me on facebook www.facebook.com/scooter.gal.5 |
I second that! Great event, keep the inner fire going (two more years ....)

Just got home back in Adelaide after a 1450km round(ish) trip to Cavendish:mchappy:.
What a great weekend. It was full of advice, inspiration and great conversation. Very motivational  Thanks again to all of those involved in the logistics of the events. |
