Damn it
Me and a mate will be travelling through Sweden and Norway on road bikes around that time and a quick search for Rosentorp dropped a pin conveniently just North of Malmo but now I see Orsa is a lot further north out in track country and the Furthest North we are planning is Stockholm before heading West to Oslo but it looks like a great base camp so I'll be watching out for reports and pics of this meet and hopefully have a run out next year on the DR.

With just a bit more than one and half months before the event I managed to register and get one of the 25 available places. Which, btw, I was expected to be long gone by this time.
I hope there will be others too. If not, more place for my bike :D One quick question, how is the gas station situation on route? Meaning two things: all night opening hours or just by day, and cash or card? I know maybe a dumb question but better safe than sorry. Thank you and see you there! |
Ok, maybe the question seemed dumb in the age of google search but I feel a bit disappointed that the organizers do not answer too much on the thread. Especially to people who are coming and ask a question which can be a ‘life saver’ - no one wants to sit a night at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere because it is closed and the tank has only fumes.
On other note, in case that someone has the same dilemma - according to Dr. Google if you go on the smaller roads and you are far from a big city there are few 24h petrol stations, the rest have no info or they are closed between 9 - 10 PM to 5 - 6:30 AM. So better fill-up in time or have a 5L can for emergency. According to the same source, usage of credit/debit cards should be no problem, although is not clear if in remote places it is popular. Usually people are talking about big cities and tourist destinations. And my experiene with Denmark, so far, is that sometimes I had to pay extra fees because I used a foreign card, plus my own bank fees, and there were places where cash was still the only option. Maybe the hosts will be so generous to clear this thing with a short answer. After all, people outside Sweden will have to count on some good mileage on Swedish soil and depending on the tank size and consumption 2-3 or more stops for the much needed juice. |

I will sent out an email later tonight to all registered participants with some additional info and ideas. Please keep in mind that I am organizing this on my own, it's the very first time and it will me a much more informal meeting than the big ones like in UK or CanWest, where I have been before. Looking forward to meet everyone in Rosentorp! For sure we are going to have fun! |
Yesterday (16.May) I sent out a long info email to all participants on the list. Please let me know if you have not received it or if there is snything I missed to mention.

Back from the route scouting weekend. Sadly it did not entirely work out as planned, because my battery died. When I was farthest away from Rosentorp I noticed that that voltage starts to drop, so I needed to go back the quickest way. Back at the cabin the voltage was down to 8.5V and of course the bike did not start any longer. So that was it.
However I know the area very well, so I will be able to suggest some great riding even without having tested all the routes before myself. I will be in Rosentorp a few days before the meeting, so I have still a chance to take a look at some questionable sections. I have prepared now several gravel routes and one great route which is almost entirely on asphalt. Want to get an appetizer? As a second option there are two very intersting places well worth visiting close by, an old mine and a open air museum in an old farm, both highly recommended and accessible on paved roads. So don`t be frightened by the word ”gravel”! |
Sadly I received two cancellations the last days, so we have dpsce left for those to decide quickly to join!

Hello travellers!
Yesterday I arrived in Rosentorp after a ”little” 7000km detour through Romania! That trip was great and I am now looking forward to meet you all here! Some short updates: 1. The 6km road to Rosentorp from the west ( last bit from ”Inlandsvägen” E45) has been freshly graded this spring and some sections have received a new layer of gravel. As I saw it`s not the complete distance from where the asphalt ends, that is now a bit harder to ride, but a few sections. My tips for those with little gravel experience: head up, look far ahead, stay relaxed, keep a bit of speed and if things get unstable to NOT appruptly close the gas but vice versa add a little bit! The access road from the east and the road from Furudal north seem to be in good riding condition. 2. Buy and bring insect repellant! The midges can become a bit annoying in the evenings. Karin and Uwe have cut the gras recently to make hay for the sheep, so we have now plenty of space to spread out the tents! Today I will try to check out some of the routes, which I couldn`t some weeks ago when the bike broke down. Safe travels, and please try to fill up your gas tank in Furudal (if you come from the south east) or ride the additional 10km to fill up in Noppiskoski if you come from the southwest. Looking forward to meet you all! Greetings Kai-Uwe PS: weather forecast looks great, 20...25 dgr C and mostly sunny! |
