HU Germany 16th Meeting 5-8 May 2016

We are pleased to announce the 16th HU Germany meeting will be held 5-8 May, 2016. Great location in a fantastic riding area - Campingplatz Pfrimmtal - 35 km west of the Rhine river, about 50 km south of Mainz, just at the entrance of one of the best riding areas of Germany - the Pfälzer Wald! A proper campground with great facilities - even showers! Jens Ruprecht is hosting this event.

Registration is open now! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/germany

Call for Presenters! We're all here to learn, and there's LOTS to learn! We want to do more presentations and seminars - but we need volunteers to give them! Any topic you can contribute having to do with motorcycle travel, maintenance, planning, first aid, GPS, etc, lasting 20 minutes or more, would be great. Please sign up here. Online Registration for Adventure Travel Presenters

A few comments from last year's events:
Jens: 'best organizer of the world's best motorcycle meeting!'
'It was a great meeting and excellent venue. Thanks Jens and everyone else that played a role in putting it together!'
'Thank you for a great meeting.'
'Thanks to Jens and all the friendly people who made it such a gorgeous event! My first time - and hopefully not my last!'

:thumbup1:

Sofie and I will definitely be there again. We wouldn't want to miss this fantastic event.
And if all goes according to plan we'll just keep heading further east from there until we hit the shores of Lake Baikal. :mchappy:

XTAdventure 13 Jan 2016 15:03

Yeah we will be there again as well :) Looking forward to it! bier:scooter:

stbarnett 18 Jan 2016 03:30

Sorry I'll miss it. Last year was great. Unfortunately the Schengen zone only allows me 90 days of travel, so I need to use it on my ride north.

tjheuvel 24 Jan 2016 10:34

Are the talks in English? I'm definitely interested!

Sloth505 24 Jan 2016 17:56

Hi tjheuvel
Most of them were last year , it was a excellent meet in a real nice place :)

It may not effect bona fide travellers, but the Shengen zone is changing rapidly.
At present 6 of the Shengen zone countries have brought in "temporary" border controls until May of this year but the EU powers met yesterday to discuss emergency suspension of the Shengen zone for up to 2 years; I think the outcome of that meeting was that the European Commission was instructed to start planning for implementation.

It would be best to keep an eye on the news from Europe.

moosi 26 Jan 2016 20:45

I wanted to leave on the 4th of May for trip to Indonesia. Well, now it will be the 7th :oops2:

I will be there! Look forward!

Unfortunately our plans have changed and we will not be able to attend the May event (still committed for the October one though).
On the bright side, the reason for this is that circumstances have forced/allowed us to leave 2 weeks earlier than planned and thus be on the road for longer. :mchappy:
Having to miss the HU Meeting seemed like an acceptable compromise. :innocent:

Geeneymac 28 Jan 2016 16:49

HU Germany May 2016

I'm planning on being there again. Had a great time there last October. met some really lovely people. Great campsite, great ride outs and excellent presentations.
Well worth the ride from Manchester UK. beerbier:clap::funmeteryes:

Cheers,

Graham

Arma 28 Jan 2016 18:40

We (my girlfriend and I) will likely be there, never been to one before but it's a couple hours from home and lands right when she's got some holidays. If we're really lucky she will have her bike by then.

Perfect timing - I'll be there!

This is the only weekend in spring and summer that will work for me. Cheers to whoever picked that date! See you there!
Greetings from Cambodia!
p.s. I'll offer to present either my Americas tour 2010 to 2013 on a 1200 GS or about the 2014/15 tour of India on the little KTM 390 Duke

We are in!

It's been 10 years since my last HU meet in North Carolina. I am excited to attend my first meeting in Germany! Dragging hubby along - he is a bit sceptical, but I know he will love it.
We secured a "Mini Holzhuette" at the campground yesterday (we are not equipped for camping in a tent).
Looking forward to May! :D

Arma 1 Feb 2016 14:27

I'm lucky enough to be able to work from anywhere but my holiday allowance is already super strained. Can anyone tell me how much tends to take place in the mornings at these gatherings? I would love to be able to work in the morning, until 1130, and not miss too much.

It was great last year! So I just hope I'll be able to get a day off work and attend!bier

Arma 5 Feb 2016 10:52

I'm looking at booking some accommodation at the site; neither of us are huge fans of camping so it'll be something with four walls and a roof.

The best value option at Pfrimmtal is a Chalet which sleeps 4; we're only two so does anyone want to share? For 4 nights (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday) it'll cost 316E - so 158E for another couple who'd like to share.

The best value is Holzhuette, which sleeps 2. € 33 total per night.
It is not listed in their price list. But I found a comment about those Holzhuette and called the campground directly. Very friendly people.
May be they still have one of those Holzhuette left.

Arma 6 Feb 2016 21:26

Sadly there are none left! I was very keen on booking one.

Newbie

Well just booked and paid for this and it will be my first HU meeting. It will also be part of a month long trip down to Greece so may also be good to pick up some tips and advice on the area.

El Aleman - Jens 9 Mar 2016 20:23

Only 2 more months!!! Welcome again!

Hi travellers out there...

Only 2 more months for our next HU Germany Meeting!

Please tell everybody about it - we want to have a nice crowd of people!

There are still some appartment left if somebody is interested. Please contact the campground diret - if you are not sleeping in a tent.

Please register for the Meeting - it helps us planning the event.

If you have any questions - please don´t hesitate to ask... I am around... just the last weeks I had to escape to Cuba, it was too cold in Germany.

See you soon - Jens
:scooter:

El Aleman - Jens 9 Mar 2016 20:32

Presentations and workshops wanted...

Hi guys,

like on every Meeting we would like to see your travel stories!

It doesn´t have to be a "superprofessional presentation" with the best pictures... just show what you have and tell us about your trip!

It doesn´t have to be a "10 year around the world trip", it can be also on a Moped going somewhere... everything can be funny! Old trips of 50 years ago can be great too!!!

Just bring your Laptop and your pictures - we have the beamer on the spot.

---

Workshops - any idea?

Outdoor-Cooking, Electric problems, GPS, first aid, GOPRO, fix flat tyres, saddle bags etc. Anything can be a workshop - or not?

See you soon - Jens:D

El Aleman - Jens 14 Mar 2016 10:28

It is spring time!!!

Hi guys out there,

we had a wonderful weekend in our area - the sun is out every day!:D

It is time to start the engines and to go out for a ride - what are you waiting for?

See you soon - Jens:welcome:

El Aleman - Jens 14 Mar 2016 10:31

Huge argentinian barbecue???

Hi guys,

what do your think?

Should we arrange a huge ARGENTINIAN BARBECUE???

Who can help?

What do we need?

Who was there?

What to do with the Vegetarians:oops2:

ANY IDEAS???

See you soon - Jens

dragoman 14 Mar 2016 16:04

We've just booked the weekend. :mchappy:

It is the first HU event for us, so we are very exited to meet a lot of travellers.
What is your experience, will most people arrive already on Wednesday or on Thursday?

Argentinian barbecue sounds great for me. bier
My girlfriend is vegetarian, but don't worry I will eat for two :-)

See you soon
Wolfgang

El Aleman - Jens 31 Mar 2016 08:07

Hi Wolfgang - welcome!

Welcome to Horizons Unlimited!

You will meet a friendly crowd of people - with a lot of travel experience!
We are pretty international on the spot, great to get good information.

And we will have beautiful presentations about wonderful trips.

The area is perfect for motorcycles - Pfälzer Wald is one of the topspots in Germany, even a ride out into France is possible!

If it should be cold, bring your swim gear, there a 2 public indoor pools nearby! MonteMare Kaiserslautern, and Kirchheimbolanden.

See you soon - Jens:D

Heike 1 Apr 2016 08:50

Filippo and I will be there as well...! Really looking forward to it since we missed both meetings last year.... Filippo will also do a mechanics and electrics workshop. See you soon!

Visit to a Motorcycle Museum - anyone interested?

While looking at the map yesterday, I remembered to check if there are any interesting sites in the area.
I found two motorcycle museums.

Motorcycle Museum Heinz Luthringshauser - The Museum - 67731 Otterbach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany
Located in 67731 Otterbach
about 30 minutes from the campground
Open on Sundays and National Holidays and upon request

Unser Museum
Located in 67280 Quirnheim
about 30 minutes from the campground
Open Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays and upon request

I would be willing to arrange a visit with one of these museums if there are others interested in going. I don't have a preference which one.
It would be neat having the museum all to ourselves, including a guided tour.

Could I please get some feedback during the next few days? Ta.

El Aleman - Jens 19 Apr 2016 07:53

Only 2 more weeks - Wow!

Hi guys out there,

only 2 more weeks to see all of you again - just great!

Weather looks really good today - finally Spring is here - already a lot of bikes on the road:scooter:

If you have any furhter questions - please don´t hesitate to ask here.

See you soon - Jensbier

Arma 19 Apr 2016 14:32

Is there a schedule for the event? I'm tight on holiday allowance and probably have to skip Thursday, it would be good to know if there is anything on the Thursday I'd kick myself for missing.

XTAdventure 20 Apr 2016 12:47

Yaiii only two weeks to go! We are looking forward to our trip to Germany bier and the Argentinian BBQ sounds awesome

R1 Sjaak 25 Apr 2016 10:21

Meeting time.

Its almost HU meeting time! I really look forward to go to the German meeting again. What makes all HU meetings for me that special is that it is the only place on earth where I find people that actually understand me.

harthel2011 25 Apr 2016 14:59

After returning from my last major tour of Asia, I am pleased to report on the HU-meeting some of it. Forward even more I would, going to see me old friends and to meet new ones.

Northface 25 Apr 2016 19:36

Hey Guys!

My first post on Hubb. I will join the meeting comming from Cologne crossing the Eifel an Thursday. Is anyone else riding from Cologne or around to the meeting?

Happs to meet people from the community and have a couples of beers and steaks!

Best regards from rainy Cologne

darthraider 28 Apr 2016 10:06

Going to be my first this year. I'm very excited and eager to meet new people. I'll be riding from the netherlands, probably via road 61 (south of Koln) and maybe some smaller roads for the last part.

If anyone is interested in riding together on Thursday, please let me know.

Hey it depends when you will be near Cologne. From A61 close to Rheinbach you can ride passing the Nürburgring into direction of the Moselriver and than heading to the event. I can join from Rheinbach but it depends on the time as I have to work until approx 2pm.

I was planning on passing Rheinbach around 12pm and shortly after (not determined yet) get off the 61 and choose some fun roads.
I have no problems to shift this to around 14pm. Btw, I'm on a motorcycle, I'm guessing you are as well?

Northface 28 Apr 2016 12:52

I have to pick up my bike and ride to Reichenbach. Think at approx 3-3:30 I can be there. So don't wait and we will have a beer at the Campsite :-) Yes I will be there on my KTM.

Arriving on Wednesday, one day ahead

Booked onto this event. I attended last year's event in October, which was excellent. Riding from Manchester, I'm taking the overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam on Tuesday and riding down to the event on Wednesday. I should arrive around 16.00. Looking forward to a reunion with friends I met at the last event and to meeting new friends and of course, a few beers. Hope the weather perks up?

See you all soon,

Graham bier:scooter::funmeteryes:

I just was thinking about something special as well. If you join from the North e.g. via the A61 there is a very impressing part of cold war history in the hills around Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler. Ist called "Dienststelle Marienthal" and is a bunker with an overall lenght of 17km (now only 200m left for the museum). It was build to shelter the german goverment in the case of a nuclear war.

Dokumentationsstätte Regierungsbunker

Important you can only watch the bunker joining a tour as described on the website. Secondly if you take the A61 there is a part of the highway which was used as an emergency airport close to Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler.

This can be an interesting break on the way to Pfrimmtal or a destination for a long 1-day rideout. There a lot of fun roads around. :funmeteryes:

Hello everybody,

I´m new here, first post.
Seen date, spontaneously decided to visit the meeting this WE.
But I cant find anything about the Timeline for the presentors.
Are there from thursday till staturday 3 different presentations every evening? Or are they during the day too?

Unfortunately i have to go to work on friday (maybe i can change this tomorrow)
Im thinking about visiting on thursday, work on friday, and get back in the evening or on saturday.
So a timeline would be great for me, could anyone help or get me informations about that.

Cheers

First post!

:oops2:
Kinda late to the party I guess, but I found time to come to the event

But since pre registration is closed, I wonder how I should go about?
Should I just drive there and pay both entrance + camping there? Or do I need to call up the place myself and reserve a spot at the campsite?

See you guys tomorrow :)
Ill be leaving the Netherlands (gelderland) around 14pm or something

darthraider 4 May 2016 22:06

I'd just go and figure it out on the spot, it's not that far from Gelderland.

And nice to see more fellow dutchmen at the event :-)

See ya there!

Moin, moin.

It seems I'll make it as well. See you!

veraseca2 8 May 2016 17:34

We made it back home to Munich in 7 hours. The traffic was a bloody nightmare.

Thank you, Jens, for setting up a great event.

And a big THANK YOU to Filippo for temporarily fixing Helmut's brakes so that we could get back home in one piece.

Arma 8 May 2016 20:48

I'd also like to thank Jens for a great event and for doing whatever weather dance he did to get us that sunshine and to all of the presenters; it was a fantastic weekend and I'll definitely be back again. Thanks also to everyone who told me some nugget of information I didn't already know; it's all appreciated, I took a small number of photos while there, including a couple of the group shot on Saturday - you'll find them all here; group shots should be the first few on the list.

I´m looking forward to autumn meeting, is it in the same area?

Hope all of you arrived home safely
