Hi HUBBers
My name is Sven and I'm from Sweden(feel free to check out my profile). English is not my native language and I want to apologize for any errors, grammatically or other. I've read about earlier meetings and noted there are different opinions on almost everything from showers to food to prices to number of participants. I myself am leaning towards the opinions of the more positive postings. I've not been to a HU-meeting before and have some questions. I have no problem with registering and paying in advance, but what about if I'm not able to attend? I'm not after to get a refund or something like that, I'd happily pay and take my losses if I can't show. I'm more interested in how I would be looked upon if I do not show up. I've no problems letting you know in advance, i.e. sending an email or making a phonecall if you want that info, but my problem is that due to my worksituation I may be called upon with a couple of days notice. I understand there's gonna be alot of camping but there's also references to hotels. How about the gasthaus Zur Schneeburg, do they offer accommodation? Is it expected/obligatory to have meals and drinks at the gasthaus? Do you have arranged meals as a group? Are there going to be arranged campfires at the camping? and is campfires even allowed? What about toilettes and personal hygiene? Is there showers/running hot and cold water or do you have to bring it with you? I'm sure I'd probably have more questions in the future but I'll settle for these for the time beeing. http://smurfen.smugmug.com/Motorcycl...69_YKFem-L.jpg |
Hi Sven,
Your English is better than many around here, myself included. I dont know about refunds but you can also pay at arrival, its just 10€ extra. Might be a safe choise if you're not sure. I have visited the German meeting last spring. The German meeting is a lot smaller than the English meeting. About 50 persons. There are no obligations to join any groupactivities. But the most visitors are social people, so you will probably make some new friends who you hang around with. The campsite is a meadow next to the Gasthaus. The cows are moved out for the occasion so watch out for the damp spots... There is an improvised shower and running cold water next to the Gasthaus. Toilets are ok. The food of the Gasthaus is good classic German cooking but not really cheap. If you are on a budget you can go to the supermarket nearby and do your own cooking. |
Thx,
Hopefully I'd be able to attend this year. Se ya' on the road somewhere. Sven. |
I've now registered and payed for the meeting and I'm looking forward to meet everyone.
My plans as of today is arriving home from my work at sea on monday evening late, leave home on the RT tuesday morning and arriving in Lübeck, Germany late afternoon where I will spend a night. I've not yet decided how to get to Lübeck, there's the brigde via Malmö-København and then ferry Rødby-Puttgarten and there's also some other ferry options, I'm leaning towards a ferry option that'll take me directly to Travemünde-Lübeck because I'm somewhat familiar with that area. Then leave Lübeck rather early in the morning wednesday to arrive att location late afternoon. I'd have liked to take some more time on small roads down to the meeting but I'm a bit time restricted due to my late arrival home from work A question for El Aleman - Jens, Do you know if it's possible to contact the owners at "Zur Schneeburg" by e-mail and/or if they speak English? Regards Sven |
As far as I know the Gasthof Schneeburg doesn't offer accommodation. Instead the organisers offer the following address nearby:
Der Watzenhof 69502 Hemsbach/ Balzenbach Tel: 06201 70050 Fax: 06201 700520 Email Hotel: Der Watzenhof |
Camping is also excellent option :)
|
Hej Sven,
good idea to book the HU-meeting! I´ve been there last autumn, riding from Varberg, Halland. Feel free to contact me or drop in for a coffee if you are interested in details. Would like to go again - but the job will probably not allow to take some days off. Har det bra Uwe |
Thx everyone for your responses, I appreciate it.
I'm starting to think about maybe only riding from Lübeck to Villa Löwenherz on Wednesday and then arriving at Zur Schneeburg Thursday afternoon. It's not to late is it? Anyone else have similar plans? The Villa Löwenherz was greatly talked about in my youth, some +25 years ago, it was THE place, almost everyone stopped by there, at least from my neighbourhood in the middle/North of Sweden. Maybe it was a suitable distance from Sweden to stop at when you were going South. Myself, I just rode locally in those days. How is the situation today? among HUBBers? Yeah, camping will be fine, I just wanted to know about the possible options. If Gasthof Zur Schneeburg did offer accommodation it would be a really great option worth considering. However having to ride several miles to some hotel every night, not so much. |
Girl riding solo
Hi all, I'm new here. I'm a girl riding solo and I'm considering joining the Germany meeting (i live in Belgium so it's not that far away). Are there any other girls/women travelling solo and coming to this event? It's just that I would love to do this but struggling a bit to get out of my comfort zone. Is it easy to meet people or are there many riders travelling in couples or groups? Is it safe? I would love to hear from you all! Thanks, Karolien

Ian from Canada
Hi Jens, Sven, Karolien, Fern, and all the rest that have posted on here, and others that will be at the HU Meeting in Germany.
Just wished to say hello to all and that I signed up for the HU meeting a while back and while be riding through Fracne for two weeks, and then am looking forward to attending the HU meeting, arriving on the Friday. I have offered to help volunteer a bit in the hopes of being able to to meet everyone there. I have attended two HU meetings in Western Canada, one in 2008 and the other in 2010 and can say they were a great places to meet fellow bikers from all over, and am looking very much forward to the HU German meeting. Before having to return to the income-generating-model (work) back here on the West Coast of Canada, I will have a month after the meeting to ride, and just wish to warn you advance, I may be pestering you all about questions about where you are from, what the highlights are, and the word on camping, hostels, and guest houses, etc. I have a bike that I plan on leaving in England, and I did write a few communities in Europe about storage lockers for my bike for six months or longer 'till I am back over again, so if you have any thoughts on that, please save them for when I am there (if you don't mind, as I don't wish to clog up this post with those details), and I would happy to hear about them. Looking forward to seeing you all! Cheers from Canada! Ian |
Ian , i can sort you out with storage for the bike e-mail me bushman_uk@hotmail.com

Hu Germany 2012 Travellers Meeting,June 7-10
Hello Jens.
Just count me in. I will be there again, this year, only I stilldon,t know what bike I take with me. I met a German couple, last year in Australia,in Port Augusta. So long. Chris.:scooter: |
Hello guys, only about 2 more months!
Hello friends out there,

Waht an island, crazy place! I am just sorting out the pictures for the meeting... - we could need some more presentations for the Meeting - we could need some workshops, maybe first aid workshop, any doctor or nurse coming? Would be great! - If you have questions about the location, facilities etc. please ask here, I will check several times per week from now on. I am really looking forward to the Meeting, can´t wait any longer to hear your travel stories! See you soon - Jens:D |

Hi all
I've just registered and am totally looking forward to this event! I've signed up for some volunteering and hope to meet you all there. Thanks again for the nice words. @gecko and casper: I appreciate the offer. At the moment I think I'm going to ride there on my own pace (I will be leaving early thursday morning and won't be doing any highways) but I will definitely send you a PM if I change my mind. take care Karolien |

Due to work (lack of vacation days) I'm also forced to leave early Thursday. No problem, my normal route for that part of Germany is normally Antwerp -> Liege, and then figure out what to do from there on... Casper |
right, i've booked, i'm on my way.....
|
I just booked in, I cannot make Ripley, I will be in Russia, so me and my Strom are on the way. I am also doing a presentation(if I get accepted), a few beers should make that work OK
|
The ferry is booked and my son and I will be there. Not on bikes this time though. If there are any Australians there, they will likely recognise what we turn up in.
|
Hi Jim,
hope to see you there. Hope you're not coming by train bier Hans |

Hi Kris.
Are you using the tunnel to get to France, if so what time do you expect to get to France. as I am staying approx 50 miles from tunnel and would be happy to have the company on the ride to Germany. Cheers John |
Hi John
Can you send me your phone number or call me on my 07756967141 please, my English spelling is terrible, I'd rather talk. Thanks Kris |
Hopefully...
I'm going to try to join you, but I won't know it until the very last moment. I'd try to arrive on Friday at noon. I cross fingers, I'd really love to attend the event and meet many of you.
Hoffentlich bis bald, es klingt zu gut! Esteban |
Only 10 more days!
Hi guys out there,
only 10 more days and we will see us again on the HU Germany Meeting! Great to have you here again. It is really like meeting good old friends. And even the new ones always fit into the family - just perfect! Bring your travel pictures, old maps or whatever you want... We will have a great time - See you soon! Jens - El Aleman :D |
Hi Jens,
I have sent you a PM about 10 days ago and after that also an e-mail but have not got an answer/response. Regards Smurfen |

Hi guys - welcome to Germany!
Hi guys,
if you have any questions about the Meeting feel free to ask me. Smurfen, got your message, answered already, sorry for the delay. Casper good weather is ordered - we will see... but we have our guesthouse with enough food and drinks...(Beer and local apple wine!) See you soon - It will be great! Jens:D |
I am really sorry to say that due to family/personal reasons I will not be able to make it this June after all.
I have notified Jens. Hope to meet all of you at another time. Smurfen. |
Have fun everyone! We thought about getting over to meet you folks for a long time, especially since we´re less than 100km away. However we´d want to bring the kids as well since they travel with us all the time and would end up with 140 Euros just for the entrance fee, even with the pre-registration "bargain" ending today. Spending 35 as a lone traveller is different than spending 140 as a family.
Cheers Chris |
Keks
Maybe you should email or PM Jens to get a "family" price :innocent: |
...or offer to give a nice slide show of one of your trips. Special traveling with kids might be interesding for some people.

Social media auf Reisen
Hi, Sonja and me will do a workshop at the meeting, in german:
Social media auf Reisen Welche Seiten im web2.0 sind hilfreich bei der Reiseplanung, welche gibt es und wie funktionieren sie? Wir stellen euch ein paar Medien vor und wollen mit euch ins Gespräch kommen über eure Erfahrungen mit dem Netz. Das Ganze nehmen wir als Podcast auf, zum späteren Nachhören auf: PegasoPodcast Wir hören uns! Claudio http://pegasoreise.files.wordpress.c.../05/folie1.jpg |
meeting
Hi folks!
I am planning to come to the meeting in Germany, even if I have a lot of stuff to do and decisions to take, as I am planning to start my trip in the Americas in some weeks. What should I do if I cannot tell you when I arrive and how long I will stay? (thinking about your organisation/payment) By the way: What do you think about a one-way-ticket from Germany to Anchorage or Vancouver? I would prefer to start my "sort-of-panamerican journey"in Alaska but do not want to be sent home directly by any officer who does not like my nose. Neither do I want to throw away money. Thought about buying an open return ticket from Santiago de Chile just to make my journey visible and to calm any officer down. What do you think? I really want to get that done asap because I would like to fly VERY soon... Thank you very much! Cheers Toby |
Pedestrians welcome?
Plan A: in a short while I’ll get the XT to the mechanic to have his opinion and see what can be done before Thursday afternoon.
Plan B: we re-exported our car back to Spain before we left for a year travelling, so no car, so s*it, no plan B. What about a plan C? Plan C: is there a designated camping area for pariahs, sorry, pedestrians in HU meetings? :D:DAny experiences?? bier I could bring my bicycle in the train to arrive on two wheels! Getting to Heidelberg is feasible, getting to Ober-Liebersbach seems like a pain (1 whole night in a train station, not enough time). I cross fingers for plan A and will check further plan C, just in case! Esteban |
I don't think there's a pedestrian area, but as long as you don't snore too loud I don't think this should be a problem ;-) Getting to Oberliebersbach on foot is a bit of a problem, although I know a guy who's done it before. I believe by train you can go to Moerlenbach, and would ideally arrange for someone to pick you up from there or hope for a miracle as far as travel in Germany is concerned and try to hitch. Borrowing a helmet from someone else at the meeting, I'm sure it shouldnt be a problem to pick you up (travel light please - no suitcases :P)
|
Next Week :)
Hey guys!
This is my first post here (been lurking around for a while, seen some DVDs, etc) and I am very excited to finally take a step into the direction of becoming part of this community :) I just signed up for next weeks meeting and am looking forward to meeting all of you!bier Ill be riding in from Munich. Ive not done any "big" trips yet (studies seem to get in the way of that), so I don't have much in the terms of camping equipment or experience. I am now a proud owner of my first tent :) Probably going to embarrass myself on Thursday when I have problems putting it up the first time :innocent: I have a few questions: What is the usual food situation? Does everyone generally come with a camping cooker, or do we usually go out an eat something together, or is there some sort of semi organised group cooking/bbq/etc event going on? I assume there are supermarkets near by. @Claudio & Sonja - sounds cool, really looking forward to your presentation. Thanks and till next week ;) -Ollie PS: Id be happy to help pick anyone up |
Mate, no need to be embarassed if something desn't work - travellers are a friendly & helpful bunch :thumbup1:
The meeting is right next to a "Gasthaus" where food is served all day long at a fair price. Some people do cook their own meals, but I suppose the majority makes use of the restaurant. The next shopping facilities are in Mörlenbach, which is about 3 kays down the hill. See you on the road - I'm travelling from south of Munich, but haven't decided yet whether on Thursday or Friday.... Hans |
Last minute
Hi,
Until now, I am not sure if I can come to the HU meeting in Germany. Is it possible to come on friday afternoon and do the registration then? I'll probably come by car (Suzuki Samurai) |
Hi
I book euro-tunnel for tomorrow at 8am and planning to arrive at meeting late evening - I hope :confused1:. does any one know what time the bar closes in the guest house beer Thanks Kris |
jkrijt - registration on Friday should be no problem, every year there are a few people who can't make it on Thursday and it never was a problem
kolo - I'm not sure anymore, but I think the bar is open until 11pm or 12pm (possibly depending on demand ;-) With the tunnel at 8am that should be no problem though See you soon! |
Everybody is welcome!
Hi guys,
just to let you know - everybody is welcome! it doesn´t matter if you come by bike, car, helicopter or snowmobil - just show up! Only 2 more days to go - great! Regards - Jens:scooter: |
Only today the surgeon got on the bike, will have an answer tomorrow. Cross fingers.
Already asked for a day off at work anyway. Apart from Plan C, I checked Plan D: 125 small good rented reasons to be there on two wheels (Thanks Jens, no batmobile yet, but still on the cheap...) :scooter: See you all, Esteban PS: Sirakor, I always bring spare ear plugs for my neighbours, so you will hardly hear the cement mixer running all night! Thanks for clue for trains and lift offer. PS2: Ulticow, I pitched this tent on a public garden only to test all pieces were in, so no worries! :D |
One more day! Wow......
H guys out there,
only one more day.... it feels like Christmas for the children! Tomorrow all the Family comes together - just great! Take it easy on your way to the meeting, you can show up whenever you want. Even in the middle of the night - no problem! See you tomorrow - Jens:D |
Early arrival possible - no problem!
Hi,
if somebody shows up today, no problem at all. Just say hello at the guesthouse, Family Meier will help you with everything. They are really nice people. I will be there tomorrow morning. I could need some help to set up the tent...:welcome: See you - Jens |
Hey Jens,
2 bikes packed and ready to roll from Brussels tomorrow morning. We're taking a scenic route down through the Ardennes and along the Mosel for a bit before heading east to Worms. The weather Gods will be banished and the sun WILL shine:Beach: See you tomorrow for dinner :mchappy: |
Who needs a lift from Vienna / Austria to the meeting?
Just decided to drive from Vienna by car.
If somebody wants to get a lift along the route - just send me a text message: +43 664 8168651. Will leave Vienna tomorrow at around 9am. Looking forward to see you all there! bier |
Hi Jens,
even if I had to go back to work on Friday :censored:I will take a peek to the "venue" tomorrow... when will you start to put up the tent, I might hurry up to give you a helping hand? Freu mich aufs Treffen! :D Cheers Jörn |
T-storms in central Switzerland... lots of rain... disgusting salad in McDonalds (wifi)... happy to be on the way! ;-)CU soonEsteban
|
Hi Jens,
Hope all is well and the planning is sorted. Just thought I would let you know I am in Sedan, France, (near Charlesville Mezieres) and will be heading out tomorrow, and just thought I would let you know I have booked in for tomorrow, but based on the distance to go, and riding the back roads there is a chance I either will not make it there until Saturday morning, or get in late on Friday. Looking forward to meeting everyone and to the speakers. Cheers, Ian from Canada p.s. Reason for the delay, is I was at a friends son's wedding near Bordeaux, and it took a bit longer than planned to get up this way. |
p.s.
Meant to add, if anyone has any questions about British Columbia in Western Canada, or riding in the Pacific North West, I would be happy to talk to anyone. Cheers, Ian Quote:

Hi everybody ,hi Jens, we will arrive tomorow evening maybe 7 pm.

I am getting everything ready to leave to Germany tomorrow morning and will arrive in the afternoon in my little Suzuki Samurai 4x4 I booked a room in Der Watzenhof |
Thank you Jens, it was again a great meeting. And thanks to all the awesome people we were allowed to meet (again) bier
Maybe in a few years I will lead a ride out that actually goes into the museum :cool4: |
it was great!
my knees hurt, my butt hurts, I'm tired as hell - but I made it home just fine. It was fantastic to meet that many great people! THANKS to everyone who was kind enough to talk to me, walk with me, eat with me, ride with me, drink with me, let me sit on their bike, ... :funmeteryes:
|
Everything hurts, it was worth it, every second :cool4:
Once again Jens; thank you :thumbup1: Casper |
[Dear Santa, for the next meeting please bring me a new *ss or one of those expensive Corbin seats!]
Hi all, Just made it home with rain only for the last 60 kms, good that in a moment will have a... hot shower??? :D. Thanks to everyone for such a great weekend and special thanks to Jens, what a great organization. Mil gracias. First HU meeting for me, couldn't be better. I hope many others will follow! Many priceless moments as Luis dancing bachata on the reluctant tire, or Richard with his beers and fanny cans, or the touching moments in Daniel's presentation and his quite emotional dialogue with Tobi, I noticed we were many with glossy eyes. Just to mention a few of many! Best wishes for everyone (cross fingers for Fern's engine to resucitate soon to take her to NZ), and safe trip back home to all! Esteban |

We had a dry run back to Brussels with just a few spots of rain late in the day - not even worth wiping the visor :Beach:... and some of those local roads were just awesome. My tyres have been well and truely scrubbed in after this trip :mchappy: THANK YOU |
Hello
Massive thank you to all that made the rally happen, it was fantastic. Wonderful to meet so many interesting and kind hearted souls. I will link my photos shortly. Well. The news is good, the engine is stripped, there is no obvious damage, we are awaiting parts from..... Germany of all places, oh the irony. So we think the sludge was coming from the oil tank. We will rebuild on Friday/Saturday, I will do 500 or so miles here, check oil and if all is well, will leave the UK for Iran next week. Thanks for the lifts to and from the bike shop, and all the tea and sympathy. I can't wait to get to another HUbb, who knows where! Fern x |
Well I'm back home in Sunny Scotland now. Well done to Jens for the weekend and a special mention to Vicky who never stopped working and keeping us all supplied with food and drink.
Fern, I'm glad to see you made it home and that the news isn't as bad as it could have been. sláinte mhaith Jim |

Greetings
Greetings everyone,
just to say hi to all bike friends and enthusiasts. Recently discovered this forum and "HUBB", apologies for ignorance. Going for Euro touring this summer with 6 friends form Australia. They sent their bikes via ship but 2 of us need to buy nice touring bikes in Germany or EU counties. Any previous experience or suggestions what forum topics to read would be much appreciated. As we plan to be in Hamburg around 20th of July, it seems we will miss out on this HU meeting in Germany, what a shame. Cheers :helpsmilie: |
Bike bought
one step further...I bought a used KLR 650. So now i have to do some preparations and organize a luggage system...
Cheers from Vancouver |
Hej Tobi, not a bad choice. Best wishes for your trip - kör försiktig!
