Mad Englishmen again!
Susan, ......and after the Nakusp meet we'll be heading South and eventually dropping in on you in Yosemite before heading to San Fran and onwards back to Blighty! Once again we don't intend to pre-book tickets, just in case, but hope you'll welcome a couple of mad Englishmen to join your meet! :helpsmilie:

Might be a silly question, but do people mostly eat the catered meals or come out to town to eat as well? I would prefer to stay flexible, but don't want to be left out in case I decide to stay at the venue - the webpage says some meals "may" be available on the spot... so would I be turned away potentially?
|
Not a silly question. Reporting only as a participant - I have no access to numbers, it appears that most do the catered food at least for dinner and lunch. The town of Mariposa is a couple miles away and some do go into town and there are always good smells around the campground around meal times so some are fixing their own meals. The food hall is big and it always seems full of people at meal times. It is a good place to meet people. The catered food isn't cheap but it is good. The last couple years the caterers have done a great job. If you're a veggie, they always have that covered too.

I'm in, riding in from Pittsburgh Pa after event going to Flying Monkey Adv Rally in Zion Ut.
|
I haven't been to one of these before, what are they like? I'm considering riding up from San Diego. In addition to the talks, are folks doing rides? How big is the crowd? Did I miss the agenda somewhere?

Parking accommodations at HU California?
I'm a bit confused on the parking situation. If I want to come up in the mobile man cave, a 20 ft trailer that I use to haul my motorcycle in as well as sleep in, is there a spot to park it and use as my accommodation?
Will I be made to sleep in a parking lot? Are othe people coming in a similar fashion? |
All set. Looking for camping en route...
I'm going to start heading that way Wednesday leaving San Diego after work. I'd like to stop and camp somewhere along the way. I'm thinking Tehachapi or slightly further North. Does anybody here have any recommendations for primitive camping in that area? I don't care what my route is; maybe 395 to 58.
I appreciate any ideas and all are welcome if others are heading North. Thanks |
for camping I would look at:
1. The cal city cutoff. Just point out into the desert and set up at night. 2. West of Mohave between Oak creek canyon rd and hwy 58. Pretty open. 3. Follow oak creek canyon to the junction of willow spring rd. That's where the PCT runs thru. Within a 1/4 mile of that junction you'll find a flat spot to park and pitch. There is a loves truck stop in TSP for showers. |
I agree, California City area is great. I've gone dirt bike riding around there for over 20 years. If you have an off road capable bike you can do some awesome exploring out there too. You will see campers there on weekends, mostly empty during the week.

You can see our camp along road in back ground. Just camp anywhere you like. NO ONE IS OUT THERE ... but you're only 5 miles from the town if you need something. |

Hope to see you there! Grant & Susan |
