HU Meeting : South Africa
Just starting this post to make people start thinking about organising a lekker gathering somewhere in SA.
If anyone is thinking of organising a meet then give a shout. I will be more than happy to help out after March next year. I have a big empty field on a river close to Port Elizabeth. Couple of chemical toilets, 2 tonnes of wood, 4 sheep spits, a truck load of Windhoek... I noted from another thread that people are thinking of one near Johies. I'm there!!! |
We have the Wilddog bash on the 9/10/11 of Nov 2007 in Hogsback, can visit us their if you want.
|
You really do need a
laptop + projector + screen inside a room to show photos/slides/power point stuff... The ones in OZ are small .. say 100 people at most .. not the 500 they get in the UK .. expect similar numbers in SA.. Good luck with it .. they are good in finding out things. |

The Wilddog bash is the local dual sport site in South Africa, we have an annual bash and it attracks around 100 people, we have it in different venues each year.
This year is in Hogsback in the Eastern Cape province in South Africa. Have alook at the site Wild Dog Adventure Riding - Index |
Aaah, thats a shame.. i just arrive a day later in cape town, otherwise i would have visited this event :thumbup1:

Any further interest in a South Africa HU Meeting?
There's been lots of interest over the last few years, but someone really needs to take the lead and get it sorted! :) Let me know if you're interested! |
Yeeeaahh!
Is this still alive??
Can we do it? How bout APRIL?? There's 8 of us going to be in SA in APRIL... already.... Anybody? |

Maybe you lot of visitors can do it where no local has had the intrest?
Set a date and a place. Try to have 1) good weather .. (easier than Europe!) 2) some place that takes say 100 people - some camping others in rooms. Witha bar, food .. and maybe a meeting room? Or and outside covered shealter (saves getting hot in teh sun [no rain]) 3) a weekend is best. The hardeest part is the place, maybe some local HU community could help? --------------------- So - who will give the talks .. you visitors can - you'll have plenty of advice at the end of teh trip .. go for it! And you'll probably have some locals come along and give their ideas an airing too. |
Yay!! That sounds perfect!
We're both ex-locals and know lots of bikers still there - maybe we can hustle up some more HU supporters! My only objection, would be a TALK.... We can't even sit still long enough to learn how to change our bike tires, let alone have a taaaalllk!!!! : ) I'm goin to look for a suitable place, right away! |
Right ....what now?
So now that the dust has settled and we are settled in SA it will be interesting to see what we can make of a SA Meeting.
I appreciate that there are other meetings in SA with various organisations but none, as far as I can determine, follow the same approach as the HU Meetings where the emphasise is on the talks and lectures presented by HU community members. The emphasis in SA, it seems, is on the out rides and competitions. Obviously both are a fantistic social event. Let me know if there is anyone out there interested in getting something going. |
HU meet in SA? Tell me where and when and I'll be there! :thumbup1:
I'd say this event is more like the one in Viedma, Argentina in December. Lots of travelers dropping in, and more interested in just meeting up, sharing some brews and stories from the road with other travelers than doing presentations. But we'd certainly share what we've learned to anyone who asks. Of course, the food has to be memorable to make it a successful event, IMHO. I'll pitch in and help out where I can but I'm in Buenos Aires at the present getting the bike sorted out before hopping over to Cape Town. I'll be there shortly (June), so this would be a great chance for me to learn about traveling in South Africa. BTW: since I'm an American, my Oxford American Dictionary (is Oxford American an oxymoron or what?) says traveler/travelers/traveling has one 'el'... so my apologies (er, excuse) for the Brits who think my spelin suks. :stupid: |
