Ace Cafe mini meet - London -
It seems there is some interest for a meet at the Ace Cafe. So I thought I would get the ball rolling, once again! :)
link here: http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/ I would suggest Sunday 4th of February. I believe the UKGSers also meet at the Ace Cafe on the 1st Sunday of every month. So good double opportunity! It would be nice to see everybody else bike, modifications etc.... Of course everyone including the 4X4 brigade welcome to the meet! Although not sure where you're gonna park the 4X4s????? How to recognise each other and avoid confusion of last pub meet? As it is winter, walking around in a HU T-shirt is not a very good idea. I have a HU sticker on my top box. I would suggest: try as much as you can to park next to someone with a HU sticker and identify yourself. And as I am the one setting this up and I don't know who's coming yet (!) let's say we meet by my bike at 11am. My bike is a black BMW F650GS, 04 Reg, black top Box and HU sticker on it, and I will wear a BMW Santiago jacket, colour Pale SAND. I should be easy to spot! Hopefully see lots of you there! :) |
Hi Maria,
We will turn up on the 4th roughly what time is the best to arive? We will be in the Blue Discovery with the white Maggiolina roof tent you cant miss us. off on the RTW end of May 07. See you there. Andy & Karen SE18 |
Hi!
Hi Andy and Karen,
We'll probably arrive around 10:30, depending on traffic, I leave near Kingston! We are also planning to leave in May for our trip in South America! see you there! Cheers, |
will see you there, as will be there anyway with UKGSers / GS Club UK
they usually arrive at about 1030ish |
Count me in...............
Hi Maria, Andy, et al,
I will be there in either my Blue Discovery or my new works truck, LR 130 Quadtech - if sorted by then. Chris |
Sounds good. Nice easy run for me down the M40. Should be on a yellow CCM (if sun's shining, it starts etc). Red Discovery if not
|
Hi Maria
This is my first post on HU (been lurking for ages though!) and thought it'd be good to start by checking if this meet is still happening? If it is I'll try and get to to the Ace to meet a few of you (and pick your brains too!). Cheers Mark |
Manic Karen and I will be there just look for the Blue Discovery with the white Maggiolina roof tent.
|
Hi Manic
I should be there - also in a blue disco
Chris |
CErtainly happening!
Hi Manic, we'll certainly be there. Me on my black F650GS and top box with HU sticker, Alistair hopefully with his Dakar.
See you there! Cheers, |
That's fantastic - I shall look forward to meeting you all.
I'm particularly keen to meet you Maria - was looking at your website - it could be a mirror image of me and my French wife :biggrin3: |
Hey maria,
whats up with most this lot down there all in 4x4s hardly any bikes !!! They dont want to get the Softie southerners title now do they - I think you need to start kicking some backsides and get them bike wheels turning. otherwise why dont you all come to the northern meet on bikes (yes it will probably be snowing or raining and a bit below freezing) have a day out off roading or a road run out on superb roads in wonderful scenery a few nights under canvas a very nice pub for a bit of beer all topped off by some great company !!!. ( If this does not stir up a hornets nest among the southern contingent I dont know what will eh!) bet them bikes are getting dusted down already Have fun Jake. ps Hows the Tipi |
Hi Jake!

True these lads are all turning into softies down south! Maybe I should think to ask asylum up north!! :D I'm worried I'll end up the only one on a bike! Disapointing considering I wanted to do this meet to check out other people's bikes and steal some good ideas! I'm leaving in 4 months :D Still, hope the UKgers guys will bring their bikes! Tipi is ABSOLUTELY fabulous! Worth the bulk! Planning to use it a lot! Where did you get the mosquito net fitted (you know at the top of the tent)? Thinking either to do it myself if I have time or get someone to do it! I'm so busy at the moment and it will probably get worse before we sort all, quit work (heaven!!!) and leave! |
I just knocked up the mosi net myself, but there are plenty tent repair places around that should do it for you. trip sounds excellent I know its been a while in the planning but now its oming at you fast - hope it all goes well.
Jens who recently died and was a mate up here in the north had done bits of south america with katee - last year (Katee is coming to our meet at the weekend) at the last meeting he was showing his photos of the trip really great loved the big salt lakes would have been interesting to you, it was for us. Must say green envy etc come to mind when you say no work anymore, leaving in 4 month, do keep HU posted on your travels and we will follow your journey. I hope both of you have a great adventure and all the best to you both - Jake. (PS Had to put my trip overland to the Stans off this year due to an injury and loss of earnings so now its 15 mth before Ican get it together again. Bit of a Bugger eh!) |
Dates Wrong
I might try and make it early in the morning of the 4th but as I thought the meetup was for the 3rd I have tickets to the bike show for the 4th.
My trip around NZ was great. I thought that having an exciting new job would make up for having to delay my Americas trip after a bad investment with my journey money. As much as I am pleased to have the extra time to prepare there is twinges of longing for the long ride. Annette |
I shall be coming this time, I think. Haven't been to the Ace for a while and I need some of their surprisingly good food.
|
I'll be there - at the Ace most Fridays anyhow... I may just stay over!
I'm the fat Welsh guy on a CBF600. m |

Ace Cafe
It went very well! Quite a lot of people turned up in the end, although with some arriving and others leaving it is difficult to know how many!
Lots of very interesting bikes, set up, tips to see! The "spiritual son " of McGyver (spell?) was there. :D Amazing what you can do with plastic boxes, glue, strings and a lot of imagination! Interesting bike! Not sure who it was! Maybe ukKev? It was nice to meet some familiar faces, and some new ones! As usual time went quickly and I never got the chance to talk to all the people I wanted to talk to! We'll have to do a repeat at Spring then! Paul_r, I got your msg and saw your update on shipping from Cartagena! Thanks! Useful info! |
Yep the bike with eco friendly(recycled rubbish) home made parts was mine . It was good to meet some new faces & bump into some old ones . Thanks Glyn for the tickets to the bike show & it was nice to bump into Sam Manicom (into Africa) & Austin Vince (Mondo Enduro) which made Jims day .
I know a few biker friendly pubs down here in Kent where you can pitch a tent so i mite be able to organise a mini meet like the have up north if theres enough intrest ? let me know Cheers & nice meeting you all kev |
