Any one looking at doing a road ride out on the saturday ?. Looking at coming down Friday from Bournemouth.

I'm up for it WT as i will be on the Strom so no off roading for me, i'm hoping to ride down Friday afternoon from Poole if you want to meet up on the way down.

I would be happy with a road ride out. The slippy stuff is not for me. the ride down and the company is more than enough but a ride out on tarmac, well then I may be interested. I am on a transalp with road biased tyres. A ride out with bacon butty at the end of it count me in otherwise I am happy to prop up the bar with any one else who does not fancy riding after 6 hours in the saddle to get there is fine with me.jeiger

just to confirm i will be attending, met up with greenmanalishi yesterday, and we will both be ridding down, i'll be on xt600 with conti escape tyres, so will play it by ear when i arrive re; the ride outs.

Well that looks like a plan, meet up Friday afternoon and ride down, few drinks Friday night and then a trip out Saturday.

So count me in, sleeping bag already packed, just need to sort a few things on the bike and tax it and I will be away.

Your bike is certainly capable of going on the lanes but tyres and rider can make a big difference. A bit difficult to answer, not knowing your current tyres, but have a look here. If your tyres look anything like E07 or E08 they will be a handicap. The E10 is a big bike tyre that looks similar to the TKC80. E09s are OK on the road and last well for an off-road tyre. Army specials are better on the dirt at the expense of some road ability, the taller knobbles make them squirm a bit, however even these would be considered a road biased tyre by the green lane crowd locally.[/quote]

thanks Rossi, had a look at the link you sent and there is no way my current tyres are up to the job! even took it into a local field to test, which was no fun! it slid around as if on ice! to be honest changing the tyres seems like a real pain and i would have to do it there which is also a real pain. thought about putting new tyres on a new set of rims and just changing the wheels but the price was stupid!
anyway, seems a few people will be going for a road ride so i think ill take the wimps option and go with them.

currently trying to get back from egypt! all going well i should be able to make it straight off the ferry from france in time !

save me a spot camping and propping up the bar, no drinking all the ale though ! desperate for some decent beer...

as for green laneing i think i'll stick to the bar, will have had enough riding through from venice to get there

Clayton aspiring overlander here, do i need to register for the meet?

Ok folks, hope you are all making plans for coming down (or up) as it's only 3 weeks away. I have done a quick name count and there are over 30 names on the thread so it looks like we should have a pretty good turn out.

I have spoken to Carol up the road who handles the hall bookings and suggested that anyone staying overnight in the hall might be willing to put in £5 (total). Camping is available (free and flat) in the school field 20m up the road but if you could put in £2 for use of toilets and the hall in the evenings that would be great.

This probably works out a little more than the hall would normally charge for an evening event but we are effectively using the hall overnight. I think practically all of the committee know exactly what I am planning for the weekend but 1 of them is being kept in the dark as he would get a bit twitchy about the insurance as it does not allow use after 1am. Fortunately he lives at the top of the road but it does mean that we will have to be out of the hall and leave it looking like it wasn't slept in by 9am on Saturday. Suddenly camping may look more attractive. If half of you don't turn up this may have to change so I hope you're all still planning to come.

I've put in an order for 2 kegs of doom bar, about 70 pints. £1 a pint in a jar should cover this as we are getting it at a discount for a charity event. I can order more but it has to be paid for so a confirmation of numbers would help.

I could get in some catering packs of bacon but it might be easier for folk to bring their own, likewise dinner - if it had been a dozen or so I would have cooked a big chili but 30 :eek3: would be pushing it. I can set a couple of gas bbqs up though and there are kettles in my house and the hall.

There 5 pubs within walking distance (1/2 hour walk) but 2 of those are across the moors and there are no street lights anywhere so bring a torch if you plan to visit them. The closest is 5 minutes walk away and probably the best for food. Main courses are about £10 and Tim can tell you what field your steak grew up in. Tables will need to be booked in advance though as it is quite a small place and popular. Let me know number and time and I will phone Abbi but don't leave it too long. For anyone doing their own cooking there is a good farm shop a couple of miles away and Liskeard, 4 miles away, has a Morrison's etc.

I have enough wood to for a reasonable fire on 1 night. If anyone can actually play the guitar I have one here once I blow the dust off.

A job for you all.
It would help me sort things out if you could confirm:
how many are coming
when expect to arrive
sleeping in the hall or camping
are you drinking beer (1, 2 or several?)
do you want to join a trail ride (what bike / tyres)
Do you want to book a table at the pub.
Any other requirements - microwave use for sterilising baby bottles is not a problem.

Anybody other than Tiffany who would like to put on a presentation. I have a laptop and screen. I can get a projector from work if it comes to it.

Please remember I haven't organised anything quite like this before so don't expect a full timetable of events going off like clockwork. The plan is to enjoy a few beers, a chat and watch a presentation or 2 with some like minded folk. There will be a dirt ride out, hopefully 2 routes. I haven't got anyone to lead a road ride but there are plenty of places to visit. If we can leave the place tidy afterwards that would of course help immensely.

My wife is currently fine with the idea of 30+ folk coming down for the weekend but she isn't really into bikes and will have 2 lively boys for the weekend. Don't be surprised if my brownie points run out at some point :oops2:

I am thinking of tootling down to this one if the snow isn't to bad and my neck injury stays painfree and stable. I will let you know in the next week how I decide. Ps having organised several northern mini meets over the years 70 pints seems pretty frugale so make sure you have some short notice back up. As I recall greenmalashi can drink 70 pints in a weekend himself. Jake.

Thanks for the warning, any suggestions on how much I need? Beer is being delivered the the day before so I can increase the order. Back up is a trip to morrisons.

Hi Rossi, count me in as a definate arriving friday around 3.30-4.00 ish, definitely camping, probably cooking (any takaway delivery places around there?) will do a road ride out, dont mind where.
Oh yeah and drinking so -15 pints already. Look forward to meeting you the wife and wee ones, thanks for your hard work to get this meet organised.

Hi Rossi might be best to get everyone to put up a rough guide to if and how much they want to drink - or make them bring their own - like the food set up, I know its hard doing the organising if your having to pre order and I would not want to take that on again - more so for a winter meet when numbers can change very rapidly as weather and the like affects conditions - you seem to be doing a fine job so far, However I am sure anyone attending could give you a rough guide to 2,3,4 or more beers they want to pre order and will pay for no matter what, that is if you have the will to do it. I have in the past done this with food orders and the like but always leave the beer down to the local pub. I can say we have seen vast quantities of ale being supped at the northern do's once the tongues get wagging and the stories get bigger, braver and louder. The sore heads are wonderful to watch the following day when they set out to do a few green lanes. I do not exclude my own fuzzy head and bleary eyes from such doings either. For me if I make it I will have my own bottle of poison to keep me company. Hope I can get but will see. Snows also gone here but Black ice has been a real bad do this week. Cheers Jake.

OK, I'm going to go with Jake's suggestion. I'm happy to order in the beer but it is going to be order up front. £1 a pint is cost price and way cheaper than you could get bottled ale for in the supermarket. I can personally vouch that Doom Bar slips down very easily, even when it comes from a plastic keg. It won't keep and, as much as I might enjoy trying, being left with a full keg at the end of the weekend will mean beer going to waste and that wouldn't do.

I'll round off the final quantity to full kegs and I can put up a sheet so that folk can keep tabs.

If you're a lager drinker I don't mind doing a supermarket run before the weekend on the same arrangement.

Take-away food is available in Liskeard. Chinese will deliver, possibly Thai as well, but the Curry House is collect only. I'll see if I can pick up a bundle of menu's and knock together an info sheet with locations and phone numbers etc.
