Highland Mini Meet 3
Hi Folks
Angus and I have just got our heads together to set a date for Highland Mini Meet, and have decided on weekend beginning Friday 18th May 2012. As per the last two years All are welcome - very informal just a few tents pitched at Cannich Campsite and probably a ride out on the Saturday. We haven't fine tuned the details yet but will work this out as we go along. Given a bit more notice this year - so people can get time off work and save up their beer money ! Look forward to seeing some old faces and meeting new friends Bruce and Angus |
It's in the diary, if I can be there I will!

Whoop, I'll be home and bringing lots of beer money! yay!
|
I reckon i can make that one be great to see you again Jake.
|
Its marked in the diary and on the calendar, now to figure out a way to get a day off or maybe even a few days holiday.
|
Oh Bugger
Chizz, Angus, sadly I cant make it to this one as my other half has booked for the pair of us to go to Memphis during the meet. I hope you all have a great time. Last year was one of the best meets I have ever been to and the ride out was nothing short of spectacular.
To any one thinking of going watch out for the Cannich bull run and get the boys to take you up to Applecross, it is breathtaking. I look forward to seeing the photos on here. Regards as ever GM |
GM
Gutted you cant make it this year - have a great time in Memphis - glad you enjoyed last year so much - its always a pleasure to show people our great Highland roads and scenery - all being well we will see some new faces this year, Catch up with you sometime Ride Safe Chizz |

Hi all,Campsite confirmed we should have our own corner as usual. There is a cafe on the site which does good breakfast etc.I spoke to Ronnie the landlord of local pub who has said he will do the usual quality food at a very reasonable rate, there will also be a selection of local ales beer and of course fine malts jeiger(Rorry comes to mind here !).As for the run out we can do poss,a short local one for the less adventurous and by popular demand the Applecross hillclimb!::blink:,but there are many options as we are in Gods own biking country here.
Look forward to see ya all,:welcome: |
Sounds good, I should be along to that, I may even bring the bicycle if I'm feeling keen.
|
Hi Alex, bicycles welcome.Hope weather kinder to you than
Glencoe.! be good to see you again. |
Well I have changed my holidays to the week after the meet, and I have requested a holiday day on the Saturday, so far it is looking promising, but to be on the safe side full grovel mode will be implemented. The boss drinks coffee with milk and is partial to shortbread, will be heading to a superior shortbread maker this weekend.
Mike will put his holiday request in next week. Would it be possible to get an invite to the rally in Dornoch please. |
"Would it be possible to get an invite to the rally in Dornoch please"[/QUOTE]
Hi Millimut, hope all goes well re holiday booking. If you pm me your name and address I will get an invite to the rally sent to you. Looking forward to seeing you both again. Angus. |
Numbers For Camping
Hi All,
I was asked today for a rough idea of numbers for the campsite for the meet.if you could let us know if you are coming that would be sound.:thumbup1: cheers Angus |
I will certainly be there unless something drastic happens. jake
|
Hi Bruce & Angus,
It's looking good for me for the Highlands mini meet (although probably not for Chris), although I may arrive late on the Friday as I'm doing a CPD course on the Friday afternoon and I don't know what time it finishes at. Will let you know once I do! Jake - let me know if you want somewhere to stay on your way up on the Thursday to break up the journey... we now have a very comfy sofa bed with a proper mattress (maybe better for your back?). Is Kieran coming to this meet or did he run away to Germany? Looking forward to seeing everyone again and to meeting new people! :thumbup1: Beej |
Hi Beej thanks for the offer of a bed thats really nice but i will probably wild camp somewhere in the back of beyond as I have no managed to escape anywhere from bricks and mortar this year so the wilderness is calling. Keiren wont be coming but no he is not in Germany. Catch up soon Best regards jake.
|
hey fella's,
Alex, you got the bicycle bug ? :-) If the weather is clear you can short-cut over the Corrieyairack, which is nothing compared to the Rannoch Moor epic we did. I did 4 days in the Pyrenees this weekend, a long route with an unexpected 1000 m off road climb in the middle ! good to see this meet still going strong. sadly it's a bit far from Barcelona, and it's 23 degrees here ;-) enjoy the beers.... |
No worries Jake, thought you might be wild camping as I know you usually do on the way up to Cannich! Hope you find a nice spot.
And Dougie... stop rubbing it in! Hope all is going well for you though! Beej |
Dougie - 23 degrees - now wait till its 40 degrees - sweaty, humid and to hot to do anything - your a Scotsman you must be like a fish out of water down there in the sun, go on admit it your missing the rain, wind, snow and cold and soon to come out midgies.
|
Still waiting to discover if I will get a day off on the Saturday. We/I will be there on Saturday night. Until Mike hears different he will be there on Friday evening after work, that is if he is still working in UK at the time. I know all this info is no good for planning, but neither of our bosses are being very helpful at the moment.
I however know that I am on a weeks holiday after Cannich weekend, so at the latest I arrive Saturday early evening and leave Monday morning. |

Jake had mentioned about this meet in another thread of mine. It will be nice to see you all.
I will try to try to come on Saturday just for the day. It depends on my trip to Brighton this week. I am starting tomorrow. I have taken the whole week off to do the trip. |
Chandra
We are hoping to get thru for the weekend so fingers crossed we will meet up again. Liz & Mike |
Chandra,
It'll be good to see you again, glad your still enjoying the bike! Beej |
I am still trying to get the bilge pump rebuilt after a complete winter 6 month restoration and modification into a HPN dakar and painted up like a tarts handbag. But the clutch bearing is knackered so waiting for that from motorworks then the new front brake is still an issue with a few problems getting everything to fit and line up correctly. I hope to have her running and back together this weekend and MOT done at latest next week. I then need to ride her a bit to test everything before setting off north for the weekend with El Chico and his mate. If there are many more problems with the build I then i may struggle to get sorted in time. Keeping the fingers crossed and still looking forward to the weekend. Bye the way chizz I should be there on time this time round as i have now got one of them new fangled Garmin things - with maps inside it - but its so complicated to work the damn thing I leave it switched off. Much better fun just getting lost.
|
Borrow my "spare bike" Jake?
Hi Jake - if you get stuck with the Bilge Pump not being ready, why not borrow my KTM Adventure? I want to try out the Sertao, so why not?
Hope that's OK, not as good as using your "tarts handbag!".... Cheers Col |
Hi Col - Logistics might be a bit of a problem you and your ktm are way down in Yorkshire I am up here and then I am not sure if my insurance lets me use other bikes in any case ( as I have a classic bike policy now - have to check that one) but if all else fails and if its feasable then I may well take you up on that one thanks very much Col.
I am hopeful and fairly confident that the bilge will be working by then though. Jake. |

For those looking for a wee bit of luxury the campsite in Cannich have opened new heated camping pods which I believe are quite reasonably priced.Click on to Cannich Caravan & Camping park for details.
Angus. |
Hi Angus afraid its looking iffy to get up there - as I have another issue after a test run on the bike ( as its had so much work done and most of it non standard stuff its become a trail of little problems to sort. So I can not get the MOT done (its a brake issue) and I need to work on the caliper mount to get it right. If I can get this sorted , the gearbox is done then I may get it MOTd in time to travel up but I think I am going to be pushing the limit a bit. If I can get sorted I will be there but I cant make a promise at this late stage. Jake.
As you can see the bilge pump has been transformed into a full on Dakar HPN type bike ( as I wont be travelling any more other than a few 3 week trips then its been a bit of an indulgence so from this http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P1010022.jpg into this the tarts handbag.http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5140126.jpghttp://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5140131.jpghttp://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P5140127.jpg |
I left home for the MOT garage this morning all issues I had were now resolved so get the MOT and tax then we are ready to head north tomorrow - but the short 15 mile run to the mot garage sorted that, the fork seals leaked badly on the bike on its maiden run out - so that was an MOT failure. The forks were overhauled by white power last week and new seals etc fitted - so a bit of a problem to solve I am afraid so again no bike.. till this is sorted. So have to miss out on the weekend sorry to say - hope you all have a great weekend and it even looks like your going to get a reasonable weather window for the weekend - hope to see you all sometime soon - Jake.

All the best Bruce - (Chizz) |
Holy moly, that is one smart looking bike Jake, lovely. Just get some gaiters around the forks and tell the MOT man to slap a ticket on it:-)
Chizz and Angus, I should be joining you on Friday evening and despite the motorbike running great I think I'll bring the pedal bike this time, maybe get there about 10.30pm or so. Keep the bar open:-) |

Thing is the oils dripping down the legs its peeing out it will knack the new brake pads and cover all my nice new shiney thing with oil - Ive done to much work to run it knackered anyway. Plus the cost of repair (if it needs chrome to the stanchions is £195 ) now that's about what I might need to spend on Beer, whisky and fuel - keeping up with the highland lot for the weekend. Its sad to miss out I was really looking forward to getting away but tis life. eh!.

:cursing: Unfortunately I cant get the day off from work (bloo** annoyed) but half of us will be there Friday night. Mike will be leaving from work should be there around 2000 ish. Beej he may need assistance to get the Tipi put up. I will be thru after work on Saturday.
Is the hotel doing the usual buffet? See you all in the bar. |
Jake, bike looks great,I would'nt want to get it dirty either :innocent:You know where we are be good to see you some time.
Alex you are hardy,:taz: do you want a bunkroom in pub booked as you will be late or do you want to camp? |
Hi Angus I think I will try to have a run up in a few weeks time once the bikes sorted as I really need to give her a trial run, so oop North looks good maybe camp over one night in Cannich will let you know and if your about maybe a few beers with you and bruce. Jake.
|
And we're off! Don't put a stopwatch on this though - I might be some time :D:wheelchair:
|
Jake - the bilge pump looks amazing... you must be soooo pleased! Hopefully catch up with you in August on our return from Europe, will email you the date to see if you'll be around.
Currently at work wishing that I was on my way... made even more annoying by the fact that Chris actually has today off as well! Oh well... Chris & I will hopefully arrive around 8-9pm... as long as I get out of work sharp! See you all soon, Beej x. |
One shift to survive then I can join you all. Hope you all have a great ride out. See you all later.
Mike G hope the hangover has gone before I get there and the coffee is ready or better still a Crabbies. Liz x |

All thanks to Bruce and Angus for a great weekend meeting. And a very nice ride out to Applecross.
Campsite is brilliant too. And dry weather as well. Same time next year maybe....... Cheers. Ken |
Thanks for a great weekend guys but an even bigger thanks for the weather specially ordered in for us. Currently sunning ourselves in gairloch letting the coffee dilute the whisky consumed last nite. Orkney was warm, Durness warmer and Mike says the roads up there are as good as the Alps. Cheers til next time Liz n Mike
