Buffet
Just been up to Cannich and visited campsite and local bar with Angus. We have a nice wee spot on the campsite and I have promised the owner we will be behaving ourselves and not making too much noise late on.
The buffet is for both nights and for the benefit of Doug venison pasties have been requested and agreed - there will also be haggis and vegetarians (Stella Beej and others ?) will also be catered for - it was beautiful up there tonight with no midges - there is a cafe at the campsite who will do breakfasts if required and the bar have also said they will do breakfasts so it looks like we are sorted. re ride outs - we discussed this and just thought it best that people decided what they want to do on Friday night and we can decide from there - there are no benches or chairs at the campsite - but Angus and I could bring some along if people would like this - let us know what you think. Chizz (Bruce) |
Hi Bruce are the midge out on full strength yet ? Sounds like your sorting a very fine do . jake.
|
Midges
Jake
So far so good on the midge front - but they are devious little B*****ds! and I would not put it past them to be sitting planning their attack as we speak, If that's the case we have two choices - skin so soft or stay in the bar - you can put me in the latter camp ! Bruce |
sounds good Bruce, thanks.
|
Sounds great!
Hi Bruce,
Sorry for being so quiet on this thread... we have been keeping an eye on it but work has been a nightmare over the last few weeks... redundances due to Education cuts... everyone has had to re-interview for the remaining jobs... thankfully, I have been successfull so will be celebrating!!!!!!!! Everything sounds great... Chris and I are both really looking forward to the weekend. Thanks also for sorting vegi food! Do we have a confirmed price for the buffet yet? Other good news is that our summer trip is now back on so we will be quizzing Jake on Russia!! Beej (& Chris) |
Congratulations on the job front Beej - everyone seems to be worried about cuts etc just now its just the way the workplace is nowadays -
Excellent that you will be getting to Russia - that's another five weeks of me sitting at work being jealous of someone elses travels (Our day will come though!) - not exactly sure on buffet price - but should only be five/six quid mark. All being well will pick up racks for Serows tomorrow - so just the powder coating to be done now - do you/Chris know anyone in Edinburgh that is reasonable for powder coating - nothing at all in the Highlands - as usual looking for good price , good quality and quick service - really want to get them bolted on and at least one good test run/camp before going to Ripley in June. Look forward to seeing you soon - are you coming up with the rest of the Edinburgh gang ? Bruce and Stella |
faint hope
Just spoke to Touring Ted this evening. The pair of us are committed to travelling to Edinburgh on Friday arriving sometime at 6pm ish (cant pull out of this it was arranged last year). We will be setting off to Calander (sic?) and Kilmahog early on Saturday morning and have to be back in Edinburgh sometime Sat night. Just looking at the AA autoroute and Cannich is 3.25 hours away from Kilmahog and 4 hours back to Edinburgh. So altogether aprox 9 hours in saddle non stop including ride from Eburgh to Kilmahog.
Ted did say we could just ride up to the camp, plant a flag to say we were there so when you came back from your ride out you could see that us southern softies had made an effort! I have a mobile number for some one and I will let them know on Saturday whether or not it is feasable for us to "pop" in. It is doable if we left Eburgh at 5am or so but that will be dependant upon hangovers and the state of the caliper Ted is sporting on his leg! regards GM |
you could always just ride up to Cannich, plant your flag and then, sort of, 'break down'.
|
I'll be hooking in with Chris and Beej, hope you don't mind, looking forward to meeting you all,
|
Helloooo... Just had my half day holiday for Friday (PM) confirmed
So my plan is to Finish work at 12:30 (Edinburgh, City) and shoot :mchappy: back home (Bathgate) to load up the kitchen sink etc...(I like to keep my pots and pans clean) and meet up with you guys at the petrol station/Mac Dons just before the bridge. Is the plan still a 3:00pm meet there? Paul |
yep, that's fine. I'll PM you my mobile number, can you txt on the day to say you're leaving Bathgate? I expect we'll leave the centre of town at the same time.
cheers, Doug |
Dougie - I will be up in Cannich middle of the day on friday long before your leaving Edwins burgh, But Keiren is finishing work at 1.30 in Rothbury and heading North Hoping to meet the Posse at the services before the bridge he reckons he will be there by three - which sounds about right for the distance he needs to cover so will hopefully meet up with you all. What time are you expecting to arrive in Cannich ? if you don't get lost on route.
|
it depends how many bikes really. re-fuelling takes a while with 5 or more bikes. but I expect no later than 7 pm. it's still light till, 9 ?
the route works out at 200 miles from edinburgh centre. I am thinking of re-fueling at Dalwhinnie, which is about half way. has he got my number, just incase he gets delayed ? Bruce, what's the next fuel station after Spean Bridge (open on a Friday evening) ? cheers |
Quote:
I'll fill up just outside Bathgate so I don't add to the Q at the pumps. |
dougie pm me your number and I will pass it on cheers
|
All Coming Together
Look forward to meeting you Aussie geezer and glad Kierans coming along too. Jake you will probably be first to arrive - I am not sure when I will finish work but probably wont make it until after 4 - I will let Angus know you will be there early. Doug if you are coming up from Speanbridge -there are filling stations at Invergarry,Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit - I would think Fort Augustus and Drum will probably be open.
Bruce |
Hey everyone,
I haven't forgotten about you, and I will be coming! Plan at the moment: tomorrow, pick up keys to new flat, and host party at old flat.:D weekend, packing, bits and pieces, MUST GET NEW TYRES ON, they are bald and i have a puncture :oops2: Monday, move house, then catch the last train to London, leaving new flat full of boxes :( Tuesday-Thursday, working in London, back late Thursday night. Try to remember way to the new flat :confused1: Friday, find camping stuff, then go to a wedding, probably wearing work clothes or bike gear because nothing else will be unpacked :funmeteryes: Saturday, ride to Highlands. :mchappy: See you there Laura PS for whoever was wanting a slow scenic route up from Leeds, left and right both give viable options PPS I will take "moxy" whatever it may be as a compliment, but unless the whole wedding/packing bits of Friday get mixed up, I will not be able to participate in any skirt-wearing contests :innocent: |
Excellent Laura - that's some week you have got to get through first ! Look forward to seeing you Saturday sometime
Bruce |

tomorrow, pick up keys to new flat, and host party at old flat.:D See you there Laura Hey Laura if we had all known - we could have all come to your party then just kept the party going till the weekend do - while you busied yourself with the trivial stuff in London and the like. Jake. |
Jumped the pond yesterday, endured 24 hours of airport agony flying standby to save a buck, and dodged the ash cloud! NOW---I'm just hoping my lost luggage shows up with all my riding gear still in the bag!!! :(
WOW, Bruce, sounds like a hell of a spread you're putting on--or organizing anyway! Any family jewels from some poor unfortunate Highlander bull calfs on the menu?? Makes venison pasties taste like chopped liver!! Yes, moxy is a compliment--and will have to withdraw from the skirt contest myself---since I prefer to keep my private parts packed neatly away in my trousers---rather than dangling in the wind!!! Anybody bringing extra hangover medicine--sounds like it may be needed!! Might also be interested in exploring further north and west with anyone interested for a few days after the weekend is over Cheers Mark |
Glad you beat the ash cloud weaklinks - all I have done is visited the campsite - Angus has sorted the food arrangements etc at the pub - I am putting Doug and Jake in charge of the weather

Ride up from Edinburgh & Bridge
Hi everyone,
If you are planning to meet at either the Edinburgh / Bridges meeting points can you send me a PM with your mobile no and where you are meeting us! I will text you back so that you have a contact no... will also pass your mobile no onto Dougie who will be at the Edinburgh meeting point first. Oh... and Bruce... if the weather's half as good as it is this now it will be fab! :Beach: Laura... sounds like you'll need a pint... will have one waiting for you! Roll on Friday! Beej (& Chris) |
guys,
what's the deer situation like up there ? particularly around dusk time when we'll be steaming into the glen.... cheers |
Deer!
Good point Doug - plenty about - (despite Angus,s best efforts !) just take it easy.
Bruce |
London got cancelled, so the week got easier, I've actually managed to unpack some boxes! Bike also sorted thanks to Ben, so all that's left is to check the tent has survived being in storage since last August!
Am I right in assuming that you will all be off riding round the countryside on Saturday and that I should therefore be aiming to arrive later afternoon rather than getting up at the crack of dawn to make it for lunch? Not properly on the internet yet, so if anything changes hugely can someone let me know by phone? Otherwise I'll see you there! Laura |

Holy Shit!
Always considered myself somewhat of a hardy soul, coming from an area of the states that regularly has stretches of weather running down to -30 and even -40 at times.....but guess I didn't realise "Scottish Summer" was only a figure of speech!! Now I feel like a 98 pound(45kilo?) weakling compared to you guys! Why the hell I didn't bring my artic gear!
See ya there! |

Good Work Jake !
Thanks Jake - Just rode home from work and got wet as well as cold! - last weekend was hot and dry ! Still I refuse to let the weather stop me from having a good time and i am sure everyone else feels the same
Look forward to seeing you all over the weekend! Bruce |
Ok, own up...who's ****ed up the weather?!! Last weekend I was happily sweating my ass off in the high 20s...now this! Bloody hailstones!!
One is not amused |
Came out of work this evening to hail stones!!!!! What's going on... last weekend people where turning into Lobsters!!!!!! Must dig out the thermals again!
Looking forward to it though! Beej & Chris |
Just back from The Borders (Greenlaw) hailstones, torrential rain, then dry roads, played this little scenario most of the way home, except the hailstones became less the further north I got.
I guess I will be packing our winter sleeping bags and some extra gas cylinders to use as heating. Looking forward to meeting you all, and keep hoping the weather turns out typically scottish and changes at the last minute. Fingers crossed we are on the up hill part of the camp site, if there is such a thing. |
trying to get out of design meeting. looking for excuse as need to test new equipment..Watch out for very dirty overloaded wing.. May only make it for Sat night as have to be in Cornwall sunday evening......( I hate being self employed) but need the money.
I hope we get sun sand rain and snow.. Good scottish weather.. Enjoy the Long weekend.... |
Global warming ?
Whare's all the Global warming we were promised :(
Time to brake out the Sou-westers and wellies again :eek3: See you tonite folks :thumbup1: Rory:mchappy: |
Change of plans here.
We will be leaving early in the morning, should be with you around 0900 |
Thanks for a great weekend!
Home safe n sound... managed to keep more or less dry although I'm not sure if Jake will be so lucky for the remaining part of his journey! I'm sure we'll find out in a bit though!
Thanks to Bruce and Angus for doing a fabby job in organising everything at Cannich... twas great! Hope that everyone who is heading further afield gets dry weather and that both Mark and Ed have a fantastic time in Europe! Beej n Chris |
Glad to see it went well..
I made it as far north as Kilmahog/Callander. 6 hours and 250 miles was enough for me !! The next day's weather did nothing to motivate me to ride another 4-5 hours north :) :stormy: I would of made the effort if I had more time but I only had 3 days for the whole round trip.. Dam work !! |
Got home and funny enough those black clouds and heavy rain did no more than wash the road before I arrived never hit a drop from leaving you all in Edwins burgh Infact it was damn sunny in the borders north of Coldstream where I had a short break. To Angus and Bruce - Excellent do,great site, grand pub, too much ale and too much rain but overall a superb show from the Highland division Thanks to everyone involved. Jake.

Hi guys, weather was great here this afternoon. Mark (weaklinks) and I finally got to ride up to Glen Affric, without getting wet. We were both blown away by how beautiful the place is.
Mark, Rory and I are staying one more night at the camp ground, then we're going to Ullapool for Rory to catch the ferry to Stornaway, and then Mark and I are going to roam around for a few days. It was fabulous to meet everyone and I had a GREAT time. Thanks Bruce and Angus for your warm welcome and the effort you put in to make it a great weekend, despite the rain. And special thanks Bruce for turning me on to McCallan and water.Hopefully the Gods will allow us to meet again sometime. All of you are welcome to visit me in OZ if you ever make it there, I'd be happy to show you around and give you somewhere to stay. When I manage to get my crap together I'll start a blog and post a link here to it. It's late and finally getting dark so I'm of to bed. The body clock seems to be running on local time now, and I'm stuffed. Seeya Ed |

Thanks for a great weekend and waiting for me at the bridge.:thumbup1:
Thanks to Chris and Mike for the bike run on Saturday :mchappy:... you can still have a lot of fun even in rain. :rain: A very easy going group... great fun watching some knock back the whiskies, and Andy still able to play the Guitar so good... I think he's had some practice eh! Paul |
Great weekend, top company, crap weather but we wouldnt have been anywhere else HONEST.
Chizz - the bike stalled again, so it was dismantled wires fiddled with built up again and it started nae bother. WD40 is on the shopping list for Romania. Fingers crossed we can make it to some more of these events. Beej - Lurve the tipi I am going to whinge and wimper and nag until we get one |
Hi again all!
Thanks a lot for the brilliant weekend! We had an absolute blast! Comming back after the Applecross run was I think the best decision we could have ever made. Had a great time! My fingers still hurt a little bit from the guitar but it was so worth it:) I should do it more often or maybe just take one with us for the trip. It was great to meet you all! Till we meet again! Gosia and Andy |
Hey Everyone
It was great to meet all the different people--and to feel welcome. Hope to run into all of you in the future. If anyone is ever in the States--don't hesitate to give me a buzz for anything I could help you out with!! Cheers Mark PS--Andy, I will have a special bottle of vodka waiting for you at my place! (Gosia too, of course--just so she doesn't talk my ear off! yeah right--lol) |
A pleasure and a pain
Well folks it was a pleasure and a privilege to meet all of you.
I've been at many bike meets over the years, but that was the best. The local boys did a great job. I met some great characters, (a 30 year old Gussi and no tent, man you’re a star.). Had a fantastic run back up to Ullapool. Ed the Ausi, - keep enjoying Spayside’s finest :thumbup1: Andy & Gosia – Travel safe and travel well.:mchappy: Oh and the pain bit - I’m stuck with that yank for a month . . . . . and he doesn’t even have a kilt ! :eek3: Rory |
Hi all,it was a pleasure to have met you all, what a great mixture o folk resulting in a fantastic chilled weekend:thumbup1:.It was typical, yesterday was the hottest day o the year the Applecross run would have been stunning, but i still enjoyed it anyway even with a leaky rain suit! Hope we can make it an annual event.all the best Angus

Adding my thanks to the list, great to see everyone again and meet new people, hear new stories (though I never did get to hear the one about Angus's trousers...)
Alex & I started off on Sunday morning under the same grey skies as everyone else, but what a change through the day, by lunchtime we were under blue skies, admiring the stunning beauty of the Gairloch peninsula. We bimbled all the way to Skye, about 200miles all in, and camped at Glenbrittle in the company of a couple of Alex's friends - blue sea, blue sky, sunshine, tents dry seconds after being put up, and enough breeze to keep the midgies away almost all of the time. I had to head back on Monday so turned south, via the Mallaig ferry and the Strontian coast road, nothing but sunshine all the way, one of the most beautiful days' riding I've had. Again and again, even under grey skies, this weekend has reminded me how lucky I am to live within striking distance of scenery to rival anything you'd travel hundreds of miles to see. Hope the current travellers have great trips, and see you all soon. Laura |
I just can't wait for Gosia and Andy's leaving do ..
;-) |
Angus's Trousers
[quote=Laura Bennitt;291325]Adding my thanks to the list, great to see everyone again and meet new people, hear new stories (though I never did get to hear the one about Angus's trousers...)
Laura, the story of the trousers is a long one, will tell you it at next meeting(maybee Andy and Gosia's leaving doo!):thumbup1: |
Thanks to Bruce/Angus and everyone else for organising the meet. Shame about the weather on the ride out which typically cleared up on Sunday giving me a very nice ride down to Ardnamurchan where I camped at Kilchoan with a great view of Mull. I then rode down to Fionnphort at the bottom of Mull, again in great weather. Unfortunately it decided to piss it down on mon night and since I discovered I was missing a tent peg, I awoke to a rather soggy tent for the first time ever!

Leaving DOO!!!
Hi all!
We'll be orginizing a leaving doo on the last weekend of July. Don't plan anything for thr 31st July (SATURDAY). We can all meet up in Edinburgh at our place and have a great BBQ!! Hopefully the weather will allow for it - unless Scotland chooses to do some crying because of our leaving :) The FOUR B's : BIKES! BEER and BBQ! Hope to see you all there! We'll post something more closer ot the date! Thanks again for a great meet! Gosia and Andy |
Hi MikeS. I'm in Tobermoray now after doing the ardnamurchan to Kilchoan and getting the ferry across. Wild little one laner heh? I was lucky to follow the local bus for some of it. The driver is a maniac but I didn't have to worry about the oncoming cars. The weather was warm and mostly sunny. Fabulous.

A few photos from the weekend and my subsequent ride to Mull, never sure about Facetwitter settings but think it should be accessible. I'm sure I'll hear if the link doesn't work though... |
