Highland Mini Meet
Hi Folks
Angus and I have just got our heads together to set a date for Highland Mini Meet, and have decided on weekend beginning Friday 13th May. All welcome - very informal just a few tents pitched at Cannich Campsite and probably a ride out on the Saturday. We haven't fine tuned the details yet but if we have reasonable numbers we will have a small buffet in the pub - same as last year.(but hopefully without the rain!). Chizz Bruce and Angus |
Sounds cool... :thumbup1:
I won't know if i'm available until nearer the time but I hope to make it !! I love Scotchland ! Bootaful ! |
All being equal - count me in.

Hi Chizz, I would love to come along, Bilge will be resplendent in her new paintwork (about to be done) and the engine / gearbox rebuild has released 65 horses of the apocalypse from her bowels that are just waiting to be unleashed on a trip somewhere - anywhere ! but afraid I doubt I will make it as I have already booked a weekend away in Wales two weeks later - and at the moment finances won't stretch to both do's at the moment with other stuff going on - but If some pennies drop on my lap in the meantime I will try to pop along. Be ok to turn up on the day I suppose. The last one was an excellent do so it would be a shame to miss out. Jake.

Been waiting for notification for this mini event. The date has been noted, it may be a case of joining you on the Saturday, this having to work is a total pain in the a@@ but hey ho needs must.
We have 1 bike ready to go the other is in a multitude of bits & pieces but when it gets rebuilt fingers crossed it wont need a push start. If all else fails we will be there for the food and maybe a few beers. Liz n Mike |
Highland Mini Meet
Thanks for the early replies -
It would be good to meet with you Ted - I have read many of your posts over the last few years - I am sure you have lots of tales to tell. Hi Palamie (Kev) - hope to see you there - you are virtually on our doorstep ! Rob - it would be great to see you again - promise not to take you to Ullapool in the pouring rain this time! Rory - I knew you would not miss the chance of a night (or two ) in the pub Dougie - I am sure Angus can guarantee the venison supply! Jake - Hope you get lucky with some money we would love to see you up here again - hows the back? Liz and Mike - Look forward to seeing you again - especially once you have that starter switch sorted. Put the word out folks - the more the merrier Chiizz (Bruce) |
Hi all, from sunny cannich:freezing:!!

Put a McCallan on the bar for me
Hi Bruce, Hi Angus, Hi Rory, Hi guys,
I see you're doing it again in Cannich. I want to be there!! But I wont. Bummer. To anyone thinking of doing this. Do it. Great people and a fantastically beautiful area. The ride to and walk at Glen Affric is a must. I am actually coming over again this year, but with the GF this time and I may get to Inverness if the weather is not too cold. (Orders from GF) No bike, doing the tourist thing for her. London ,Paris, Barcelona, Italy. I'm thinking, if I can swing it, of spending the whole summer in Scotland next year. If anyone knows of a cheap cottage or something that I could rent for a couple of months, let me know. Little village or something in the highlands or West coast would be the go. I hope you all have a great time. It was cool.(cold):freezing: Seeya Ed |
Hi Ed
Glad to hear you still favour the Macallan. I will do as you say and put one on the bar . We will miss you although it is hardly as though you can pop in. Thanks for promoting the meet - the uptake is a bit slow this year but all being well we will get some new as well as the old faces. Make sure you look us out if you get back to Scotland next year, Chizz (Bruce) |
Hi Ed.
Glad to hear that your coming to Scotland for a while. We'll need to meet up when you come over. I'll raise a glass to you at the meet. All the best Rory |
Giday Ed,
Great to here from you again,Aye There will be a dram o MacCallan on the bar for you (need to try n keep Rory away from it though doh!!) If you make it this far north with G.F We will sort out some kind o accommodation for you. All the best, Angus |
Hi all
Just to confirm I'm coming. May also be able to persuade a pal to come along. New to biking but a veteran in the pub stakes. Looking forward to putting face to names and as a newbie on bikes hearing all your pearls of wisdom. Cheers Kevin |
Rory
Just noticed your in Lewis. I'm planning coming up through Barra and The Uists to Lewis second week in April. Any tips welcomed maybe catch up with you for a beer if you are around? Cheers. Kevin |
Hi Kevin,
Give me a call when you are in the area. Maybe have a beer or two. Rory |
I'll be there if I can, depending on work/money - if he's got his test & a bike by then I might even get the other half along for the first time!
Laura |
Count me in, finally got the bike back on the road at the weekend (and couldn't have picked a better weekend for weather either!)
|
Mike/Laura
Look forward to seeing you both - hopefully we will have better weather this year! Bruce |
Please see attached link for campsite for those who have not been before
Cannich Caravan & Camping Park - Situated in the Scottish Highlands at Glen Affric near Loch Ness its a great wee site complete with cafe for bacon rolls ! Cheers Chizz |
The possible (of getting along) is getting more like probable - but still one or two things to sort out first - but hoping to see you all there. Jake.

Unfortunately it's now looking like I'll be working that weekend, so you'll have to manage without me :(
Have fun! Laura |
Hi All,we are trying to get a rough idea of how many Folk are planning coming up to Cannich this year.If there is enough of us again, the Pub will be happy to do a buffet like last year at a reasonable price. It would also be handy to know numbers for the campsite.
Cheers the noo Angus |
Count me in
Rory :thumbup1: |
See you there ...... Rob
|
Hi Guys
I'm new to the forum. The meet sounds good. I'll may be around Inverness next weekend. Could I join you for the ride on Saturday? Look forward to meeting some of you. Cheers, Rory |

Barring accidents and acts of god.... Likely to arrive late friday afternoon or early evening. Cant speak for Touring Ted or Diehard, last heard they were thinking "seriously" about it. Hard to believe that Touring Ted, the man who conquered South America and Raped, pillaged, plundered and generally laid to waste the "Dark Continent", is having to think about it, LOL...... See you on the 13th. GM |
Short of Libyian rebels or Somali pirates, I'm gonna try and make it too!
|
Hi folks,
We are both hoping to make this one... Chris's bike is fine (as long as he doesn't use his back brake!), and my bike has just passed it's MOT so all I need now is Road Tax and a new clutch cable - or I can keep developing the muscles in my left hand! We also need to check that we have enough pennies but it's looking likely! Rob - will be in touch re meeting up on Fri! Looking forward to it! Beej (& Chris) |
I really really want to, but:
It's right in the middle of my work shift.. I'd have to take two days unpaid leave and ride 440 miles in one day on my little DRZ..... :helpsmilie: |
Hi Chizz, I still want to get up to your meet but have just had an unexpected bill for near a grand - hit the pennies a bit, so I am afraid it looks like I am going to have to give it a miss - was really looking forward to the ride up and seeing everyone again - its such a nice location, great pub - hopefully see you sometime soon. cheers jake.
|
Hi People, I'll be back in St Andrews in time but the bike won't arrive in the UK until the end of May I will have to use my 4 wheel box if it will start after sitting in the garage over the winter. To that end does anyone else without a bike between St 'A's and Cannich need a lift? Ride Safe.
|
Hi all, thanks for getting back to us.Maja be good to meet you no matter how you get up here,:welcome:.mrsibanda be sound to see you for ride out on the sat(14th!):scooter:greenmanalish,promise no mental offroad heart attack stuff:thumbdown:.Jake sorry you no gonna make it.Those that were here before know what to expect:thumbup1:
|
Thanks Angus
Thanks for going easy on me with the ride out. I still have nightmares from the last trip at Cropton!! The journey for me will be close on 420 miles there on the Friday. This will be the furthest I have ever ridden in one day. (Lightweight I know) I wont know if I will be capable of getting back in the saddle on the Saturday morning. My joints are no longer what they used to be. Sadly years of lung and liver abuse have taken their toll although I have enjoyed every minute that I can remember!
|
Still planning to be there but it will be sometime on Sat so will pass on the ride out.
|
Pub Grub
Hi folks - we have decided to stick with the usual pub grub rather than organise a buffet as we cant be sure of numbers it seems to be the safest bet. Only a few days to go ! - look forward to seeing you all at the weekend.
Chizz (Bruce) |
Hi Chizz,
Absolutely gutted... we checked our bank balance tonight and am afraid that we don't have enough pennies so will need to miss this one and save extra hard for the next! Really upset as last years was fab and was looking forward to catching up with the usual suspects and to meeting new HUBBERS! Hope you all get good weather, we know you'll all have a ball! See you all at the next one! Beej n Chris |
Cheers Angus
Hi. What time do you guys expect to be off for the ride on Saturday? Is 160 mile tank range enough or should I bring a fuel can? Thanks in advance. See you there!
|
I will be coming accross on the second ferry on Friday, so I should be there 6pm "ish"bier
Rory |
Hi Mrsibanda,we got no set plans as yet.Aye 160mile range will be ok.What time do you hope to get here on sat?
|
We will both be there, arriving seperately but leaving together.
Is there anyone else travelling up from Aberdeen area on the Friday night. I (Liz) wont be there until after work on the Saturday, but is making the sacrifice of starting at stupid o'clock (0500hrs) to get away that wee bit earlier. Mike will possibly be up on the Friday evening but if not Saturday. 2 more for the buffet numbers. We had hoped to bring along a couple of new recruits but new bikes have left them cash strapped. C U all at the weekend. Oh and please supply sunshine or failing that turn the rain off, I can cope with dry dull. |

Bruce (Chizz) |
Hi folks,
Sorry to say, I can't make the meet tomorrow. Hope you have a great time. Rory :crying: :crying: :crying: |
Catch you next time Rory - that will reduce the bar profits somewhat !
|
Sorry Chizz, car just failed it's MoT so my boozy weekend will have to be done locally, still if the boat doesn't sink between South Africa and here and if the bike passes it's MoT I'll have the bike for Ripley. Anyone passing through St Andrews over the next couple of months or so before I head for S. America can have floor space if I'm home. Ride safe.
|
Til next time folks
Big thanks to those who came to Cannich for the Mini Meet, and Kev and Rory who turned up for the ride out to Applecross and Shieldaig - a great run this year - the sun even came out! Hopefully Greenmanalishi will have some pics. See you at Ripley XRM
Numbers were well down on last year but the Craic was good, All the best Chizz (Bruce) |
A very select turn out ................
Cheers Bruce. |
We had a great time even though we couldnt go on the ride out. Found a couple of roads we had never been on so thats a plus. Home via Avoch for a RBR landmark, over The Lecht :( (sand & cr** in road still). Managed to stay dry until 40 miles from home then soaked.
shopping list Headed waistcoat exped downmat gloves that dont dye hands black when wet. Thanks for a great weekend. :thumbup1:Till Next time |
Yo
Yo chiz, Bruce, Angus,. XRM and the mad guy who led the ride out, I had a fantastic time. The best ride out I have ever had in my life. Looking forward to the next one. I am not at home yet I stopped at my brothers in Edinburgh and after a trip thorugh his drinks cabinet I decide to stay two nights. Cant wait for the next trip. My only critism was it went too quickly, thanks for the hospitality and all the effort you guys put in. I will be back even if as a tourist. Full report and photos on my blog in a couple of days with a link posted here. Once again thanks to everyone who made this trip special. I owe each and every one of you, details of a trip to sunny Wirral as soon as me and Touring Ted can manage it.
Take care GM |
at last
Finally made it home yesterday afternoon.

Nice write up
That amused me GM. Really glad you enjoyed yourself - by the way XRM had come from Kinross and Rory from Huntley not quite local and of course Milimut also traveled from the East but could not make the ride out - loved the nicknames- and especially your descriptions of the Cannich bull run. Spread the word we would like to get the numbers up for next year.
All the best Chizz ( Bruce) |
Apologies to all.
I was on Skye for a week and the plan was to head over on the Sat. Family illness meant I had to leave Skye on the Thursday and miss the week-end completely. I know there are always call offs but frustrated as also missed this week in Glen Coe with other friends. Really keen to catch up with you all asap. Will check out the photos and hopefully meet up one day soon. Sounds as if those that managed had a great time. |

Sorry to miss it too, was also planning to head up but couldn't make it. hope you guys had a good time and see you at the next one
