If you can make it to the Northwest maybe I can escape for a day or two and go for a ride. We have shop facilities if you have need and always a place to camp, sometimes a bed. Will you be shipping a bike over? Best port I have found to be Portland Oregon, big enough to get the job done yet small enough so you don't get lost.

Thanks, camping space would be great. We are only just looking into it but likely will fly the bikes over, probably to Toronto then back out via Argentina. We plan to travel west then down the west coast of USA. :)

There is limited parking for vans but no on-site power. We can probably park you up but its likely the van wont be able to move again until Sunday afternoon.

Tents are great, Chas. I've used one on every trip I've done from the Arctic to Greece. The secret is to focus on your comfort - and not care what you look like! Tent, sleeping pad and bag (plus ear plugs and using your neck tube as a blindfold to keep the light out!) combine to provide hours of sleep. I even have an ensuite bathroom in mine... More later!

My 'posh' tent is a Hilleberg Tarra - expensive but brilliant. Perfect for long trips, up in 5 minutes in a Force 10.

I really thought I'd grow out of camping as I got older - that I'd welcome the "almost like home" civility of sleeping in a decent bed and look upon tents as something from my out-of-necessity younger days - days when we often didn't bother with the tent in warmer climates, but much to my surprise it hasn't happened. I find myself choosing to camp when the circumstances are right in preference to staying in a hotel even when money isn't a consideration.

Last autumn's trip across the USA was a case in point. Hotels are two a penny (or cent) over there yet we found ourselves choosing campsites - both wild and commercial - because of the ambiance. In one place near Memphis the hotel had a campsite next to it and we camped even when the hotel offered us equivalent rates. Every now and again we'd book a hotel to clean up or when we were in big cities - Vegas, LA etc but most of the time camping gave us the freedom to do what we wanted rather than what the hotel wanted.

I'm booked into this years UK HUBB meet (1st since 2004!) and camping. It just seems right for the kind of event it is.

Hi to you all. The new site for the UK meet is perfect - and, for me, close to home so a difinite Yes to stirring my aged bones, oiling knee joints, praying to a Good God that my back will hold up, having B hang a name plate round my neck so that I can check on whom I am AND searching through notes on my last two Indian odysseys. Though why the notes - as I always lose them (as those will testify who have ever listened to my blather)....?

I am booked in and paid for. This will be my shakedown trip prior to a 3 week jaunt round Europe, which in itself will be a shakedown for a bigger trip the following year.
I have been a member on here for just about a year now and I am constantly amazed just how friendly and supportive everyone is. I look forward to meeting plenty of you and learning loads.
