London area people riding up together?
Hi there,
Are there any London area based riders who'd like to form a group when riding upto this years event? My mate Brad and I will be going, but in this instance, it'd probably be fun to go up with some others. Maybe we could meet around the Northern part of the M25 somewhere. Leave some contact details if you're up for it. Cheers, Matt |
Sounds like a good plan. I'll be coming up from Surrey, so M25 area is good, or what about one of the first service stations on the M1 - Toddington I think is just north of the M25.
ANyway keep me eposted by email. cheers Richard |
guys I will riding up too on friday (from central london). Its a bit early for me to know time - route etc. Are you going M1 all the way? (I alway thought A5 a bit more interesting it doesn't quite take there but..) I may be learning how to use a GPS by then so probably get lost, so not really good person to ride with but would like to meet up on the way. -- BTW just joined HUBB, been reading it for couple of years. Great place to spend lunch time and evenings at the office - apart of course an invaluable source of inspiration (and information) gt |
I am hoping to attend this years event not with standing work commitments. There is also a service station on the A1/M25 junction (south mimms) anyway if it is on the way to the event, i'll meet up anywhere.
|
I'm having my bike serviced by the excellent Boxerman (http://www.boxerman.co.uk./) in Leicester on the Friday (late morning/early afternoon). After that, I'll be riding up to Lumb Farm. If any of you from down south are passing by Leicester around that time I'd love to join the convoy.
Perhaps you could leave a contact e-mail or mobile closer to the day so I could know what time you'll be passing by, Cheers. Stephan PS If you are learning to use the GPS, Lumb Farm is: N53 01.908 W1 24.128 [This message has been edited by Stephano (edited 11 May 2005).] |
Last year I met a few riders on the way at gas stations - some HU riders are easily recognisable (beatten up bike + gears, eating some junk food :-)
But if you leave on this forum time and place you plan to take a break, I'll make sure to stop by. See you all there! Philippe |
I just thought of another place to meet for the London rideout to this years Horizon meet, how about the Ace cafe? on the north circular{A406) not far from the beggining of the M1, A1, A5 or whatever route you want to take.
|
I've got Friday afternoon off work so I'll probably be available from midday onwards. If people are leaving after noon I'd be happy to join them, I work a couple of miles from the Ace. Not been to one of these meetings before either.
|
Apologies in advance if it's slightly inaccurate but Ace Cafe is:
N51 32.407 W0 16.716 |
stephano thanks for the GPS coordinates, will be ordering a 60cs soon. I am up for ace cafe meeting to ride up on friday. -- talking of which there is a ace cafe meeting this sunday any of u going to see the new BMW? gt |
Hi guys,
How does 2:30pm at the Ace cafe sound? If we're going a non motorway route, would anyone be prepared to lead? Perhaps the guy with the GPS? Matt |
Okay, i can get there about 1500hrs, i got a GPS, but i am still getting to grips with it, also i drive a Londoncab by trade, so it would be nice for once for someody else to lead the way (lol)
Mavrick Bubble |
can I suggest making it a bit earlier in the day - think about getting away before the Friday rush hour starts?
Maybe even meet for lunch at the cafe and get away by 2pm? Richard ------------------ Richb http://www.postmaster.co.uk/~richardbeaumont/60684/ |

Are u all riding beaten up RTW-ers, - I will be on a BMW rockster, so don't leave me back. |
Sounds like a good plan, I'm supposed to be working from home on Friday, so naturally I shall be taking full advantage of that and leving early http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif
So meeting at 2pm at the ace then? ------------------ http://colesyboy.tripod.com |
Okay boys and girls, 14:00 hrs at ace cafe for me as well, who's gonna play mutha hen and lead us?
|
If anyone wants to meet earlier and have some tucker i'm up for that as well, i am off work all day, and if anybody is leaving east or north east london and wants ot meet or wants me to meet them as i am riding through north london on the A406 give us a shout
|
Is anybody travelling up from south M25 Tunbridge wells area, I'll be going Dartford way possibly? could meet at first fuel stop on M1 - joining from M25
Cheers Paul ps. apparently - few guys meeting at ACE cafe what time do you plan to hit first fuel stop on M1? perhaps I could join convoy to derby |
I'll be there too at two
------------------ Richb http://www.postmaster.co.uk/~richardbeaumont/60684/ |
Yeah i was gonna suggest doing the service stations on the way, i think there is a guy in Leicester wants to meet as well. Paul it's impossible to give an exact time but from where we are and by the time we all organise ourselves i would say to meet you around 14:20 to 14;30,anybody else wanna meet in service stations along the way?
I am on a Black AT, cant remember the reg, i have printed the horizons logo off this site and i'll stick it on the bike front and rear so whilst we are on route we may pick up stragglers on the motorway. Maverick Bubble |
A couple of us are heading up from North London but not leaving until about 5ish, if anyone wants to hang around for the second wave.

I'll post a UK mobile number here when I get one so maybe you could give me a progress report on your motorway stops via SMS or a call. Stephan |
Hi
Thanks for posting reply on forum. Yeah ±2:00 pm (14:00-14:30) sounds good to me at 1st fuel stop on M1 after joining from M25. I have a silver KTM 950 with ali boxes. Could any one tell me how far up the M1 is first fuel stop, so I can work out timings. Cheers Paul (pixelart-design) |
I am still trying to organise myself in order to be at ace for 14.00 on friday. But the fact that I still don't have a bike may delay me (and that my girlfriend refuses to even contemplate giving me a lift on her bike is another matter). I am expecting bike delivery on friday morning, if that happens then there is a possibility to be at ace at 14.00 if not.. will catch the train. |
Does someone have a route preference? I'll be at the Ace shortly before 1 o'clock for a spot of lunch. I've got a GPS too though not too keen on leading.
|
Okay, no one wants to take the lead so i guess i'll volunteer my services, but if anybody else wants to takeover, just say the word http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gifI don't ride reckless, my employment depends on my driving licence(taxi driver)but i do keep up with the flow of the traffic etc, anyone wanna lead faster then perhaps two groups would be appropriate
The route, looks like the M1 to junction 25 turn off, then onto the A52, is gonna be the easiest,as we are meeting people along the way. If anybody thinks different then leave a reply. My experience of groups of riders on A&B roads is that we always manage to lose one or two at roundabouts, with M/ways, although boring there's only one way to go....forward! Right! Paul from Tunbridge, as far as i am aware Todington is the first service stn on the M1 north of the M25, if anybody knows better let me and Paul know.If i don't hear otherwise thats where we'll meet at approx 14:20/30 hrs Philipe, did you want to meet us somewhere? Stephano from liecs, what service station did you want us to meet you at? let me know, i am gonna pm you my mobile number my guestimate of arriving in your area is around 15:30 to 16:00hrs, how does that sound? George, sorry to hear the news, if your bike arrives late, Gibbo has sent a post saying he will be at the Ace at 17:00hrs so if you miss us perhaps you can ride up with him? And if anybody meeting at the Ace has a small tank on his/her bike let us know so we arrange a fuel stop somewhere. Okay i think i have covered it all? if i have missed anybody/anything out leave a post, I'll try to get to the Ace about 12:30 i have a black AT registration ending VLT (i think? i just bought the bike) i'll print the Horizons logo from the website and stick em on my bike which shall be in the car park maverick bubble |
Hi Maverick Bubble + convoy
I am going to try and join you at ACE CAFE - should be there around 12:00 'High-Noon" As a spot of lunch sounds a good idea + the Ace looks a good place to strike of on the M1 from. If I don't get to the ACE I'll see you at 2.00/2.30 at toddington. Cheers Paul ps this forum business works really well!! |

Hi guys,
This is last minute but I hope to join the convoy on Friday. Bike (black AT covered in gaffer tape) is still in Bogota but should be in Stanstead for collection at 9am. If not I will be on a borrowed bandit. Most likely I'll join up at the fuel station at Toddington. What time is this likely to be or do I need to keep an eye out from the slip road? Hope to see you Friday. Matt |
Matt' We should be at Toddington about 14:30 we shall ride in to meet you,if we are earlier we shall wait until the desired time,
I live about thirty minutes from Stansted down M11 into Walthamstow, if your bike arrives and you have time to kill you can always pop in and have a coffee and brekky,or extra gaffa tape http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif your most welcome. i'll be leaving my home about midday. We are leaving from Oxford way on Friday but can't leave until 5-6ish due to work. We'll probably follow the M1 route so if anyone sees a silver KTM 950 with Gobi boxes give us a wave!
|
Someone just pointed me at this. Should be a nice ride up!

Thanks to Maverick Bubble for organising the ride up. Sorry I didn't get to say bye to half of you on the Sunday and I hope you all arrived home safe. A really good weekend with some really nice people. Thanks.
|
I'll second that - I had a superb ride up and a speedy (2 hours back to london) night ride back on Saturday night.
nice one fellas, Brian ------------------ http://colesyboy.tripod.com |
Had a great weekend with some real laughs - Thanks for waiting for me at the pit stops along the way - I don't do filtering obviously... I feal a lot closer to doing this travelling RTW stuff now! Thanks for letting me pick your brains.
Had a really good time - sorry I did'nt get to say tata to some of you! Cheers. Paul KTM 950 - silver PS If you ever fancy meeting up for a beer sometime - just shout. |
yeah it was great to meet you guys - maybe we should have one or two impromptu meets closer to home during the year.
------------------ Richb http://www.postmaster.co.uk/~richardbeaumont/60684/ |
We do have two or three a year "mini-meetings" a year in the London area (pub and restaurant) - be sure you're in one of the HU Communities in the UK and you'll get notification.
Hope to see you all next time! Grant [This message has been edited by Grant Johnson (edited 28 June 2005).] |
I'd definitely be interested in that.
