UK Meeting Update 2008
The UK meetings page hasn't been updated for a while so I thought I'd fill in a few blanks for you.
We've had over 20 presenters volunteer so far to put on a show for this years meeting some old, some new. Regulars Chris Scott, Simon McCarthy, Sam Manicom, Tim Cullis, Craig Carey Clinch are all confirmed as well as new shows from David Lomax, Tiffany Coates, Chris Bright to name but a random few. New names Richard Miller - Africa on an Enfield, Charles Fellowes - UK to OZ and Leigh Mathias - Newfoundland to Argentina. Topics range from - UK to Australia, Morocco, The Silk Route, China, U.S.A. Spain, Africa and informative sessions on, what to take, travelling as a couple, Bike preparation, and whats the best tent? Walter Colebatch was the first person to be allowed into China unescorted in 1994 and his is likely to be a well attended show. David Lomax can always be relied on to give a funny and professional show (he's doing 3 shows this year) and my abiding memory is of a photo of a bike attempting to jump an impossible ramp with 'The A team' music playing in the background. More time will be given to Paul Gowen from the RAC this year as although his session on Carnets was repeated several times over the weekend most of the time the room was full and over ran. There maybe a chance to make a 10 minute appointment with Paul at the meeting to discuss fees etc on a one to one basis. More details to follow as I find out more. Tim Cullis's talk on Garmin and using Mapsource, his tech session, over ran by nearly 2 hours and could have gone on past closing time - such was the interest. More time needed I think! The rideouts are still going ahead this year with one major change. Registration will be on the day on a first come first served basis. We are no longer continuing with the register in advance system. Much easier for all involved I think. More details later. F.Y.I. I myself organise the UK meeting - anything to do directly with the meeting is my responsibility - venue - presenters -facilities - rideouts etc Sam Manicom is once again organising the volunteers this year. Theres a rota system in place so if you do volunteer you can opt for as little or as much as you want. We still need a few more volunteers. Thankyou! You will see us there, us meaning my wife and I on our 1150GS with the ZA numberplate. Hope the weather is great, never been to UK, but heard so many bad stories about weather and rain etc. I see Chris Bright will be there too. He might not remember me, but on his first RTW travels down in South Africa he stayed over at my place in a town called Paarl, 50km from Cape Town, I think it was back in 2000. You can almost say that he was my insparation to travel the world as well. It will be good to meet him again and shake hands with the man who 'intriduced' me to this superb way of life. Looking forward to meeting you both. We have had several South Africans attend the meeting over the years so you'll be in good company, but not sure if we've had any S.A. registered bikes attend, yours may be the first. All the stories you have heard about the UK weather are true, particularly this week, but heat and sun are guaranteed for July..... Glynn |

We do not plan to go through Germany. We've been there last year (car) and will go back in the future, it realy is a beautifull country with friendly people. Our route will take us through Iran, Turkey, Italy and France. After the HUMM we will go to Scotland and must be back in London by the 14th (July)to freight the bike to USA, where our real adventure will start, driving all the way south to Argintina. Sould be done in 2010, depends on the money (as always) If you know where I can get a BMW box/crate, please forward the contact to me, so that I can get it delivered in time at my freight company in Windsor. (Walker Freight) Chris, then I will see you in UK at the HUMM. Look out for the 1150Gs Adv with the South African number, that'll be me. Regards Johan |

Worked a draft timetable out today and we have over 50 people who have volunteered this year to put on a show or demonstration. Thank you very much !
The timetable will be posted on the meetings page in the next month or so. Unless any presenters drop out,we are not looking for any more folk to present this year. You can still apply using the form but you will be put on a reserve list at the moment. If you were thinking of applying to do a presentation why not do it in Germany at this years first Horizons German meeting. If you have registered and still not paid send the money off now please! This years meeting WILL sell out in a week or two and its the first 500 who have PAID and REGISTERED. Sam is still looking for a few more volunteers for various tasks - hours to suit you. Contact Grant through the website if you want to know more. Just having a look through the topics we have shows on this year and South America is very popular... a few years back it was Australia/Africa... think in the next few years there will be a lot of shows from the East...
