Availability of Meths for a stove in Iceland
 
Hi,
I'm off to Iceland (without the bike) later this week. Could anyone tell me about the availability of Meths in Iceland? Both in and out of Reyjkavik as I need to fly up to the North West and won't be able to take it on the plane.

Generally yes, but I can't remember where it is sold :( Could have been at the shops, phamacies or gas stations... In 1989 I cycled across Iceland and had my Trangia stove with me. The bigger problem was to get it going in the mornings - I warmed the stove & methylated spirits in my sleeping bag before getting up for breakfast :frown:

Spend £40 and buy a Colemans 533 you'll be able to boil your kettle before you grow old!!

If it is anything like Norway/Sweden/Denmark, then camping shops, chemists and possibly hardware shops.

My meths stove will boil a pint of water in the time it takes me to get the makings together and have a slash and a stretch. I've never felt the need for it to be any quicker.
