Buying a bike in iceland

Hi there looking at options for a possible trip to Iceland in summer 2014. I have been looking at shipping my bike there and back after the trip. Another option (and possibly another trip) would be to buy a bike in Iceland do my tour then hop on the ferry and ride home to Ireland. Does anyone know of any websites that advertise used bikes (like autotrade, mcn).
Thanks for your help.

Have a look at this site: Heim - Hjól.is
They are the biggest dealer in used bikes in Iceland they can assist with registration and such thing I presume.

Sorry but this site is only in Icelandic!
You can send an Email to hjol@hjol.is and if that is not working drop me a PM and I can give them a call.

this is the biggest car and big sails site in iceland...it collects all the other personel adds from other sites into one page
bilasolur.is bike is hjol

but im not sure if you will legaly be able to buy...you will need a Kennitala ( icelandic id number) you cant do anything up here without one...so you will not be able to register it in your name or get insurance, i live here and have some experiance of the situation.

they are not cheap up hear anyway and if you were planning to drive it back it would still make sence to bring it here....alternativly there is one company at least who rent real bike...not sure of the name thought

Gazza thanks for that.

Have been looking at bike prices there and they are way out of my budget so i think i'll be sticking to the original plan of shipping my own bike.

everything up here is expensive.....i know your not going to go for it...but the crappy electric bikes are cheap and tax and insurance free...and you can get one without a id number......i could be a intresting trip...trying to circal iceland by electric bike....i think you would be the first person
