Thanks for the information Joiben. We'll be in Iceland for the first week of July and I see the F35 and access to Askja are still closed. How are conditions for the time of year and do you think it's likely they will be open when we're there?

Hello guys
It would be great to meet up with you and show you the local roads and tracks we use to entertain our selfs. I live in the Reykjavik greater area Currently the BMW F800GS is my dreambike. I am willing to trade if your journalist wants to ride home on a Honda VTX1800C loaded with all the accessories and more.:) We do not have a BMW bike dealership over here so getting your hands on a new model BMW bike can be tricky. I am going on a 5 day trip next Wednesday on my Suzuki DR600 with a group of friends and we will take F35 on the first day. It has been opened now but most of the roads on the eastern part of the country are still closed. When I come back I will give you a report on the road conditions. We will be staying in a remote hut/summerhouse near Siglufjordur in the north part of the country and taking daytrips from there. Like I said on a previous post the conditions are changing quickly this time of year so I am guessing most roads will have opened in the first week of July. Thanks for the update Johann. I hope you have a good 5 days - you are lucky to have such roads and terrain so close to home. The F35 is as far west as we will be going so I doubt we'll meet you this time but if this trip goes well I'm sure we will try to get to Iceland again but hopefully for longer next time.

Hello again
If you find your selfs on somewhere on the western part of the country with a day to spare you can do the roundtrip I did today. I went from Reykjavik this morning on road1 North trough Borgarnes. I turned on road60 then on to road54 and then road55 and made my way back to Reykjavik going around Hvalfjordur on the way back(I took the tunnel under it going North) This is about 430km trip very scenic and has a very wide spectrum of landscapes and about 60km´s of gravel roads attached are some pics I took today |
