KLR 08+ 32 litre Tank Testing

Basically the design of the tank is such that fuel is stored lower than the fuel tap. The idea is to accelerate and the fuel transfers back to a fuel 'well' where the tap is at the same level as the carburetor.
This tank is still in testing phase - Robin Box (Safari owner) wants to know how well this 'gravity' system will work and if it would be acceptable for other customers. If not, he will add an electric fuel pump to deliver the fuel. I haven't at the moment had any real time to completely test the tank. What I know now is that the tank itself is of good quality, Fitting the tank required a few hours with a bit of stuffing around. When I have more time and miles with it I will give a report on what I think. I am not familiar with your crash bars, but I removed the ones that I had (I had limited time to make changes). There is no doubt that it is possible to adapt your existing protection to work with this tank. It is very similar in shape to the original tank and tank shroud. Currently my bike below is being flown to Cape Town. I arrive on the 6th of March 12. I have 5 months in Africa and Europe to completely test the tank and I will give updates as I go. I will also upload better photos to fully show the tank when I get a chance. Kind Regards Ben. |
I guess they don't work on KLE500 tank, right? :( I must say I'd love to have this "gadget" on my bike, 15l OEM tank is like a joke for longer trips.

Does it have a fuel tap on both sides like the DR Tank does?

New IMS tank just arrived
Hi guys- This is my first post on HU, but I have followed the site for a while - thought now was a good time to chime in. I just recieved a tank for my '09 KLR 650 from IMS. I know from experience there isnt much info on these tanks as they are a fairly new product. Hope this helps. Ill will post more information as i have a chance to install it and get some miles on.
See the post below I put up on a KLR forum I use: IMS Tank of Crash Bars-a couple questions - Page 2 - Kawasaki KLR 650 Forum 2009 KLR IMS Aftermarket Tank | Flickr - Photo Sharing! |
Welcome to HU Bricaud! :)
You're right, those tanks are huge! But they work well and that's what counts. Tip: You want to show the picture in the post, you need to get the url of the image - in Flickr, click share on the page for the photo, Grab the HTML/BB Code, then click BB Code, and finally copy all that, and come back here and click the Advanced button (which gives you a code view), paste it all in here, and then the image will show, like this: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8141/7...a89fd3de70.jpg 2009 KLR IMS Aftermarket Tank by bricaud14, on Flickr You can also extract just the part wrapped in [ IMG ] tags and click the insert image button above http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...nsertimage.gif and paste in that, and you'll get: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8141/7...a89fd3de70.jpg Hope that helps and doesn't confuse! |
Thanks, Ill try that out when I post photos of the installation.

Here is a picture of the Safari Tank on a First Generation KLR.
It took 10.1 US Gallons to fill the first time. Made a 2100 mile trip with it and it worked great! http://bigdon55.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...IMG0570-XL.jpg |
