I see you have terrain tires, what's your experience off road now that he's 10cm higher (weight balance)?

intresting opinion .... I never asked a mechanic :oops2: I just did it on my street or on a friens street .... in that old style - if it fails will be obvious that I missed someting :innocent:

About off road experience? .... :confused1: small .... but my luck is that Bucharest is a constructin area for some years and we have plenty of bad roads and with cubic stone .... that looks like a motocross circuit  but it handels very well a hole in asphalt when you don't expect to meet one :biggrin3:.

Leaving the joke ... is ok, I'm also tall so that's why I raise it ... but when you fall ... you can't stop it ... but that's the weight of the bike which kills you ... is hard to keep it straight ... especialy when you get your tires full with mud .... but overall not much diference .... I control it better .... but now I use enduro tires (those in photo)... with cross tires on street is pure suicide I had problems with turns, tram lines and stability. An much off road you can't do with it .... because is heavy and hard to keep and the height don't seem to change this aspect - I was on woods with mud and I managed to keep it but on heels with mud and lots of turns and I managed to fall :oops2:.

In my opinion it worth the effort to raise it but don't do it too much ... and combine it with softness of rear shock and make it so that on a big shock the chain to be at it's limit not over (avoid to break the chain).

Good luck ...

KLE Manual

Hello there guys. Thanks for all the help with the manual. It is a big help. I bought a KLE 400 here in South Africa. Here it is a grey import, so no backup by Kawasaki SA. The manual is a great help, as I will now be doing my own backup. Prefer doing it anyway, as you cannot trust the appy in the workshop to do things right anyway:nono: . On a bike this can be disastrous! Remember, the bike shops are not in the business to maintain your bike 100%, otherwise how the hell are they going to make money out of you. Lucky for me the KLE 500 spares are available here and fully interchangeable. I only had one problem so far with the bike. It had a dead spot at about 6000RPM, and felt a little sluggish. Another long time biker helped me assess this, and we found that the rubber hose on the carb shifted, and leked in air before the cylinder head. Easy to fix, and now we are running perfectly again. I suggest we start a new thread with common problems and their fixes. It will assist everybody. Regards

Cardy 20 Feb 2007 22:28

Hi - Nice to meet other fans!!

Hi my name is Cardy - from Yorkshire!

I bought a KLE *2003 last year and I love it. I have been living in Barcelona for 4 years, so we have some great mountain roads and Green lanes around Catalunya. I have been on several weekend camping trips with the bird on the back and we have found great pleasure from green lane style riding at low speeds, I have ridden to the top of 3 mountains on my KLE including Montsen at about 1300m, mostly riding on grass/moss or easy gravel road.
:thumbup1:

On some of the more difficult sections my suspension bottomed out quite often, causing damage to the "kickstand safty immobiliser sensor".

T:(his problem is due to the fact that when I bought my 2nd hand KLE, the previous owner had short legs and had lowered the front shocks down about 2cm and put the rear shock down onto the lowest setting.

I have been considering tweeking my bike for a while and today I found a tail raising kit for about 25 quid that will allow more ground clearance than the highest Standard setting. (Thanks for the Pics)

If you want to check it out I got the web address.

Tail riser*Kawasaki*KLE 500 alle Bj.

Mine kit is on the way so I will send pics once I have it sorted!

Also I have been trying to find the English workshop manual in Spain and it not easy! Please, please could you send it to me. I too want to learn how to look after my KLE.....

Cheers, Cardy

KLE manual

Hello there.

The KLE has basically only changed cosmetically. The manual should be fine for any model. It is the manual for the 500, and I am using it for the 400. 95% of the 2 bikes are the same, so the manual works good enough.

KLE 500 manual

Hi to everybody
I've got a KLE 500 and it is the most reliable motorbike i've ever used.
I live in Lamia-Greece and here is a litle dificult to find a dessent mechanic to service my KLE 500. In most cases they will jump around like indians in order to chase away the evil spirits or if they know their job they will charge you a small fortune. KLE 500 is realy an unbreakable motor and i can do all the service that it needs ( spark plugs - oill - brake pads - filters - chain... etc ) on my own , so i realy need the service manual for it.
I've cheked this link http://ursa.irk.ru/manual
but there is no manual for KLE 500 .
I will be grateful to anyone can send my the service manual for KLE 500 ( or 400 it is practically the same ).

my mail is

new

Hi everyone. The manual is great even if i have the 2004 KLE500 is almost the same.
My 11 litre tank lasts 180km and i have managed to empty it in 150km but travelling and reving more than 7.000rpm for long time.
When i was braking into to bike it did 240km with the 11 litre.

Mine is 2 years old and has 20.000km. I had some strange problems (one was that the oil finished(2litre) in 2000km and i just noticed in time) now i am almost off warranty 1 month left and i monitor it day by day to see if this happens again i am giving it back to fix it for free.

I now need to change the chain..a lot of noice and my tires...
I would like suggestions on both of them if you have.

KLE 500 User Manual for 94' Model

Hi Luuk,

I just bought a 2nd hand machine from a friend of mine down here in Penang.
It was 94' Model.Quite interesting and yet to run the show as I was bit busy with my schedule.

I'd downloaded the Manual from www.motocikli.com/files/kle500manual.pdf
Does it apply to the 94' Model as well?

Luuk 7 Aug 2007 07:12

i thinks so, the kle hasn't changed to much over the years, only some new bodywork en enviromental stuff. i just adjusted the valve clearance on my 2000 kle with the manual (with is for a 2006 model) there are some diferences but not mayor. for instance in the engine top cover i have no check valves. the 2006 model has. good luck, if you have a problem just post it on the forum.

Owner's manual for KLE 500 needed

I live in France and I'm studying for my "permis moto." I just learned that I get docked a point on the exam if I can't show my owner's manual! Does anyone have--or could copy--an owner's manual for a KLE 500?

It's easy to find the workshop manual online, but I've never seen the owner's manual on ebay or anywhere else.

My bike is a year 2000 but I'll take whatever year anyone has. I'd be happy with English or French. Will pay for photocopying and postage, if you can't sent it online.

KLE 500 Service Manual

HI Guys, Just joined up to this forum while trying to find a service manual for my KLE 500 1994 model year A4.

I've just got into biking and only bought the bike last month, needed a new exhaust I have put on a remus innovation but now has 'back fire' on slowing down, also I think it is running too rich (needs no choke at all to get it started) so need to adjust the settings on the carb. If Its possible to email me the manual that some users have it would be greatly appreciated. tyrone.williams@tiscali.co.uk

Some of the info I have read so far on this bike make me think i got a great first bike.

Joe C90 9 Oct 2007 13:06

I'm not sure what the exhaust system is you have put on your bike, but the chances are it is less restrictive than standard, so the back firing is more likely to be the engine running lean on over-run. I have just bought a 2006 model, I suspect the motor is strangled by all the emission gubbins, so am expecting the same problem myself shortly!

Hi,

Can anyone please give me some advice on their experience with the KLE 400. I'm interested in buying a dual purpose type bike and I can get a '94 KLE400 on a private deal. What must I look out for, what is a good price to pay, how powerful is it comparing to the KLE500 and KLR650, what topspeed is it capable of. I weigh 85kg and is about 1.8m tall, will the bike be comfortable on and off-road. I will really appreciate any info and advice

Hi,
Am new in the world of KLE500's with a spanky new 2006 model.
I have tried downloading the manual, but Ozhanu's seems to be a .RAR file, not a clue how to read it, all the others either don't recognise the link or are in a language I cannot understand! Can anyone put a link up for an easy to read manual for the Luddites amongst us !!
cheers

ozhanu 3 Nov 2007 00:05

Hi,

it was in rar format. rar is a very common compression format and software. it works like winzip. i think you know what winzip is. you simply upload and install winrar to you computer and that is. the language of the server is english. i dont know how you managed to see different language.

anyway, i have also uploaded pfd format of the manual just now.

click to the following link to download for beginners:)

http://rtw.ozhanu.com/docs/kle500manual.pdf to download. It is 7.2mB and takes a bit of time to open it.

hope this works for you.

enjoy

Hi Buddy,

I've got a 400, got it Jan 06, and have put 27000 kms on since. I'm about the same weight/height as you, and have been very happy with the bike.

I commute with it every day, and have also used it for some longer trips, the longest being a recent 5 day trip from Cape Town to Hogsback in the Eastern Cape and back. The 400 does not like an uphill and a headwind at the same time, speed drops to 80-90 km/h, but does not really go below that. It makes no diff if you drop it to 5th and guns it, just stays there. Ave fuel consumption on the trip was about 16-17km/l due to the higher speed and being loaded with luggage.

Otherwise my fuel economy is about 19-20km/l average. I don't really take the bike over 120, but on the trip to Hogsback it cruised easily at 130 for long times. At 130 the revs on mine is sitting at 7500, still a way to go before the red line.

I had some progressive springs fitted in the front forks, and it made the soft front end a hell of a lot better.

I think the KLE's engine is tougher in construction than the KLR, although not stronger ito power and torque. And that twin is nice and smooth.

Pleco also on this forum also has a 400, and he outruns me with a pillion on and me single on my bike, but he likes to take the revs to 9000 before changing gears, I like to change at about 5000-6000.

I hope this gave you some information.

Cheers,
Nicki

About KLE400 .... mine is a KLE400 ..... it is an exclusive model for Japanese market, only in Japan is made but on the second-hand market you can find it in Russia, Romania, a little in Hungary but mostly in eastern europe - especially in former soviet union.

There are no differences in construction between KLE400 and KLE500 only the engine is different. But I have same number of chain links, same fork, same look .... only a smaller but powerfull engine :w00t:

service manual

Hello
I have KLE 500 2006 and I am looking for service manual, is it possible to get it? My email is reljic@bisinter.net
KLE is very rare type in Serbia too, it's very difficult to hear experiences fron other kle users. So it's nice to find this web site.

Thank You wery much :oops2:

Hi,

I just want to say thank you to those who have posted the manual; it's been very useful to me this morning, when I've had to fix the non-running bike away from home and I've had the possibility to download it from here.

Again, thank you :)

ozhanu 21 Mar 2008 12:14

you are welcome. hope you never need it again ;)

Can you please send me the service manual? My email is ilsvm41@hotmail. com.

Also does anybody knows how I can find the paint colour code for my KLE 500 (model 2002)? I want to paint the front mask but I can't match the original colour (something like beige/shampagne - i don't know how kawasaki named it :))

Thank you very much.

I have a similar leak. I'm going to try a 6mm copper crusher washer on the coolant drain bolt and see if that works. Catch the coolant in something clean and you can reuse it.

Just as a matter of interest does your bike smell wretched on start up - like a harsh chemically smell?

You can use this 2005 manual too, they have changed only few things so the wiring diagram is almost the same except lights (because 2005 models have 2 light bulbs) and main panel (wnere are the meters and light indicators) is also changed.
So just download it from the links posted some pages before and start working on your bikes.

Trust me I have a KLE400 and still it worked with this manual!
