KLE 500 fuel leaking into airbox
Hi All
I have a KLE 500 2006 model, it seems fuel is leaking into the airbox(coming out of the airbox drain hose). I'm going to take the carbs off and take a look. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing it? It's hard to tell but looks like it's leaking when riding and the leak will soon stop when i pull over. No leaking when the bike is idle. Bike it running fine, i'm just worried because of fire reasons with it being fuel. Regards Martin |
??????
Has anyone got any ideas on this one?????????????????

Incey,
Did the problem occur after a service? Or the seat coming off? This problem usually occurs if you manage to incorrectly route the breather from between the two carbs over the airbox and it becomes pinched under the seat. Pull the seat and inspect the breather hoses - cured a couple of KLE's so far that I know of... |

Cheers,
Gotta know a little about these things, done almost 85000km on my 06 and have done all my own servicing etc... They are a good thing the KLE... |
Still leaking fuel
Hi all
My kle is still leaking fuel from the air box drain tube. I've checked the pipe between the carbs and it seems fine. I'm at a loss on this one so any help would be great. |
mate - i have the mechanical kowledge of a teabag but it doesnt make sense to me that fuel could be leaking from the airbox drain and the bike still runs fine. for that much fuel to be in there to be able to drain out I would say would be a major haemorrhage somewhere.
are you certain its coming from the airbox?? |
Evening,
I have noticed, during some climatic conditions, that there can be some discharge of fuel from the airbox. On several occasions, if the weather is heating up, the expansion of cool fuel in the carbs has caused a small amount of fuel to enter the airbox and subsequently drain. On other occasions, when the bike has been run at high speed for long distances, the heat from the engine after stopping causes the same effect. I should say that the amount of fuel which has vented would be in the vicinity of 20-50ml... Maybe this is your situation? Cheers Ian |
Leak
Hi all
The leak is defo coming from the air box drain. On normal road riding there is no leaking, it's only when rinsing at high speed for long distances, and only a small amount. Is this something a should worry about? Thanks Martin |
Happens to mine; never worried me... just don't park it over a naked flame

I am wondering if such old posts will be read nowadays. So I have the exact same issue as Incey. Fuel from the air drain hose is leaking when riding and the leak will soon stop when i pull over. No leaking when the bike is idle. Breather checked, carb checked, fuel tap checked. Still leaking. Jameseye, you said it never worried you. Since some years passed, did it make some more troubles, or has anyone found a real solution? Many thanks in advance!

Around 90,000 km on mine now, and my present job (and the large numbers of kangaroos!) means I don't get to ride so often.
Have never had any problems with excess fuel as discussed years ago... Would still check all carb vent hoses for blockages/pinching. It may be possible that it could be a needle and seat issue in the carb - but one would think that the problem would be worse at idle, and other symptoms affecting performance would be present. Cheers Jameseye |
