kle 500 heated grips
word of warning !! when you buy heated grips dont buy cheap ones. fitted some £30 specials from flea bay and nearly came a cropper.
they were baggy on the bars and shouldn;t have put them on but i put a couple of turns of aluminium tape around them to bulk them out. MISTAKE ! the kle only has a sidestand and on the stand the right hand bar stick up . rain entered between the grip and the bar and on my way home from work went to overtake a car, pulled out a gave it a handfull- of fresh air - grip spun round and i went nowhere quick. very dangerous- ordinary grips back on and bar muffs fitted. lesson learned you get what you pay for .:oops2: |
Got the Oxford ones on mine, Had them on for 4 years with no trouble.
Keep an eye in Hein Gericke, They sell them for half price from time to time. Regards Roy:thumbup1: |

+ one for the Oxford Hot Grips. had them on for 4 years. First set failed at about 18 months and was replaced under warranty without questions. The KLE charging system seems to handle the grips no problem at all as well.

Sorry for digging out this old thread, but I have one question that fits the subject. I recently installed my oxford hot grips, but now I'm thinking where to place the control unit (the one with buttons). Where have you placed yours? Any input appreciated. Maciek |
My controller is attched via the factory bracket to one of the screen mounting bolds (it attached upside down to minimise the cable run from behind the instrument panel) Fits neatly and easily accessible, but does require your left hand to be removed from the bars and a little reach to get to the controls. You only need your right hand on the bars anyways... :mchappy:

I have mine mounted on the right hand bar using the supplied bracket which attaches to the master cylinder/mirror clamp

I haven't made photos yet, but I also decided to mount it on the right side with the factory bracket, bent to the other side. I made my own bracket to mount it near the instrument cluster, but it appeared it would disturb me when accelerating (it almost covered the high RPM range). So I went with the handlebar way. Thanks for your input, I will post again during spring with the on-road tests. So far the garage is covered with over 1m snow ;) |

So I made a few photos, I thought I'd share, though no road tests were performed so far.
First pic shows how I attached it on the right. The bracket is original one, bent over. Second pic shows where I placed the "control unit". It's on the air filter box. I also added a relay, it's placed under the seat on the right side. It takes current from license plate light. You can see it on 3rd image. Fourth pic shows the bracket I intended to use before this discussion. It was supposed to be placed in the way you can see on 5th pic, with the smaller part glued to the plastic and bolts comming through drilled holes, to attach the main bracket. This isn't the worst way to mount it, but has two drawbacks- first, it makes the high rpm range visibility worse. It just distracts the eye. Second, it makes taking this plastic off much more difficult. Third- it's harder place to reach. |
