KLE 500 rear brake compatibility
Hi Guys,
I am in the rolling stage of my KLE project where I am rebuilding the entire bike from scratch. I found the rear caliper floaty bits were siezed so had to resort to a hammer to try and sort them. 3 hours later I successfully broke the rear caliper!!! So 2 questions really: 1) Does anyone have a spare rear caliper I can buy!!!!! 2) It appears to me that the KLE500 rear caliper is very similar to an early GPZ500 front left caliper with a front right bracket. Can anyone confirm this to me as getting these are far cheaper than the "KLE500" part?? Andrew |
oh god don't replace that heap of junk caliper with another heap of junk. Just get a "modern" caliper fitted up!! Its not that hard, worst case a "simple" bracket has to be made.
I thought I saw one on UK ebay recently - you have to search under ebay UK website (dont just click worldwide) as the US and AUS ones dont show it even with "worldwide" ticked as a search option. A guy on there regularly parts out kle bits. |
I replaced it with another caliper bought on ebay, I cannot be bothered experimenting with this bike anymore.
I had a total nightmare restoring it and getting an ER-5 engine working in it - my advise to anyone going to do this swap, dont bother, I now unintentionally have GP style shifting!! I just have to figure out why the Indicators dont work then I can finally get it MOTed! Andrew |
Hi
On the gear lever there is a rod about 6mm dia which attaches to an arm on the gearbox could you flip this upside down to correct the shift pattern unless you prefer gp style |

I have been scratching my head with regards that, unfortunately there is no easy solution as many things are conspiring against it! Namely the frame is in the way. I might just get it passed its test then revisit it. I might try MotoGP style, but I just hope I down downshift in a corner! Andrew |
