Hello there, you all lovers of the best bike ever!!!

I´ll tell you something. This bike is good, really good and though!! And simple, which is very important when u go touring to the end of the world.

Enjoy some pics.

First one on the famous "ruta 40" in the Patagonia Argentina.
Attachment 593

Second (glorius pic!) riding our KLEs on top of the Andes at 4300m (yes, there is very little oxygen up there but we´ve made it!!).
Attachment 589

Third one, some dirt in the carbs while riding in the middle of nowhere... (after 5000km of off-road she can have some cough!!).

Doctor please ...

Doctor - the snippet you shared of your trip over the Andes on your KLE's looked great.
What about some more details on the trip and your bikes (pictures included).
Far too interesting to leave it at that.
Cheers

I'm interested to hear more detail of you off-road trip, too. Did you do some modifications on suspension (and other) of you bike?

Hi Nicola M,

I have visited your web site and really attracted about the KLE. I am still between KLE500 and Honda XL650 Transalp. Yesturday, I went to a second hand bike shop here in Ankara. Both bikes look attractive, KLE is a bit cheaper. And in you web site I have seen that the KLE is as capable as the XL650. Though, reliable, easy to repair, powerfull...

Could you please tell me what mods did you do to your KLE and what sort of problems did you have with the bike?

I have seen the modified petrol tank pictures but did not understand a single word because they are in Italian. Could you also briefly explain how the petrol tank was modified?

Thanks

not a KLE, but...

My engine still had carbs, and they got full of crap in a desert, if KLE carbs are anything like Mikuni carbs it should be something like: take the airbox/tank etc off as needed to get to carbs; take the carbs apart; check the diaphragm for pinholes, jets for holes and needles for wear (ok, on an overland trip you probably wont have diaphragms, needles etc to hand, so just clean them all); take the carb apart as much as is easy, clean with petrol (or carb cleaner, for obvious reasons!); blast compressed air through them (NOT with the diaphragm in!!!!!!); reassemble, no copper grease; rebuild bike in reverse order (with new air filter if poss, normally float bowls full of crap means knackered or loose filter). This worked a treat for mine, and I didn't have to stop again until the HT leads failed. 2 days later.

As for how you know your carbs need a clean I am not so sure, in my case I had intermittent fuelling problems (power dropping suddenly, very poor starting, foulded plugs) and started taking it apart from the top down. Luckily my problem was near the top! Once I had got a local truck to come and help dig the sand out my float bowls the bike went back together fine

I only upraise my bike with new "dog bones", and I never had any seriously problem with my bike.

I'll try in short but my English is not so good

1. I cut upper half of tank. That part is now on top of new tank
2. I made 3 new parts (on copy of photos as number 1, 2 or 3)
I forming that parts of sheet metal.
3. welding
4. painting

Your english is as good as mine. dont worry, it is not our native language. We understand each other and that is the point. I wish I can speak all the languages, but it is impossible.

umm... About my web site: I have just tried and its working well on my computer. Please try again.
