kle500 non start
I have a kle500a1 that wont start . script as follows
1. had a sticking choke . freed this up with wd40 2. used some carb cleaner as well on the carb body and bell mouths . coughed and spluttered but cleared after a few seconds 3. stopped the engine . cleaned inside carbs with carb cleaner 4. now wont start . it has back fired a few times but now nothing not even trying 5. taken carbs off and cleaned and blown out . new spark plugs . checked timing all ok and float levels . good spark . turns over well .but still nothing where should i go next ? :helpsmilie: |
Hi.
I think if you have a good spark then it must be a petrol thing. did you get the jets out of the carbs and give them a good clean too? |
kle500 non start
well, it turned out to be piston rings of all things . i did a comppresion test and they were well down . when i stripped the engine the rings were stuck in the piston groves and 2 were broken . i think it must have been the carb cleaner that did it . i have since put a gpz500 engine in and all is well at the moment i have yet to ride it but have an mot booked at the end of the month . while it was off the road i had the frame powder coated and most of the other parts blasted and powder coated as well just need to recover the seat now

how did you get the gpz engine in? did you keep the flywheel or use the gpz wiring loom or something? im having a go at the moment but dont have a kle engine to swap bits off so am just using a gpz wiring loom as weel - which nearly fits i think . . any advice would be appreciated. kind regards nathan |
non start kle500
i used the kle wireing as well as the kle flywheel , so all in all it was just these that were needed . i did try the gpz flywheel but it dosnt work the pick-up are not the same a s the kle

i'm going the other way as i didn't have the original engine just the gpz one. i am using the gpz wiring on a kle and have it all plugged in just about. needs a bit of messing with and may be ready to stick a battery on and fire it up. . . i have also kept the gpz carbs.
how is yours going? is it runing? whats the power like with a gpz engine in and has it affected the bike adversely in any way? regards nathan |
non start kle500
well shes running okish . passed mot on sat . have a slight miss fire at about 4-5k . apart from that ok . the only diffrent think i have noticed is that the power comes in a lot latter . think this may be due to the gearbox or cams . but i will live with it for now perhaps i wll change the sprockets (smaller front larger rear )

Hi. sounds great.
have you got gpz carbs iin too? and did you have to alter the airbox to let any more air through? regards nathan |
Bloody hell! Would it not have been simpler to re-bore it and put new pistons and rings in?
|
non start kle
no the engine only set me back £40.00 . i would think that a rebore and gasket etc would be looking double that . and it was far more simple to just change engines only took a day
