klr650 front sprocket (+1)
Hey guys, Im trying to help out a mate who is on the road in oz, he's in victoria at the moment. He wants to gear his klr up abit. What front sprocket will achieve this?what model? thanks
a part number would be great. |
I found out that the stock is 15 front 43 rear.
Online I found this list 14t 70mph 5400 rpm 15t 70mph 5000 rpm 16t 70mph 4600 rpm |
I can't help with part numbers etc, but if you go with a 16 tooth front sprocket, you can expect to get worse gas mileage than with the stock 15 tooth. I can't explain it, but my buddy consistently paid more per fuel up (with his 16 tooth) than me (with my 15 tooth) on our ride from Canada to Panama in 2003.

John - I think the stock rear sprocket is different for some models. I discovered this the hard way when I was doing my chain and sprockets last time and cut the chain too short. |
I see it's a KLR not KLE...duh

I agree with the gas mileage point. I had put a 16t on my KLR last year on a trip to Nova Scotia. It did away with good pick up, had a reduction in fuel efficiency (35mpg vs 55mpg), and prevented the bike from traveling in it's preferred 4500rpm range while doing any reasonable speed
