power up
can anyone suggest any respectable power upgrades for the klr. I have heard that it is difficult to get big power gains from the aftermarket. help???

I haven't heard much except perhaps a free breathing air filter (available from a few different manufacturers) and possible a reject kit. However, I've never felt the need for more power on my KLR. I have on occassion replaced the front sprocket for hill climbing and strictly off road stuff. You can use a sprocket with one less tooth. It improves the bottom end response of the bike but robs a bit from the top end. I carry both sprockets as it only takes a few minutes to change.

Changing the pipe could gain you 10 or so horsepower, but the higher top speed will come with obnoxious noise levels and decreased fuel economy. I ride my KLR with a ton of gear and have never had an issue with power. It isn´t the kind of bike to go fast on, anyway, IMHO. James. |
I have to agree with the previous post. I've had mine up to over 85mph and it's not something I really enjoyed. Not really the bike for that. It's power is in it's ability to plodd endlessly along.
