Seat Choices
I posted this under Equip Reviews also...
Just got a 2006 KLR650 and i want to change the seat. My question is which seat do you folks recommend? The 2007 Afrika Single Seat from KLR650.com The Gel Seat from Dual Star Or the Corbin? |
seat?
Have a look at Rick Mayer cycle......he does a custom seat for the KLR 650. You can talk to him and he will taylor the seat to fit your needs.....It'll cost you around the same as the corbin (well a bit more) and you get the perfect seat for you!!
Good luck |

Mine is vinyl, but I love it. |
I have had Corbins in the past, on TA's and BMW's, and while they sit great after 5-6k miles or so they will burn your ass before they are broken in. I have a question too -- does the Corbin dished seat for the KLR really lower you or does it effectively reduce your reach by being wider?

I also realised the Corbin was twice the weight of my OEM seat (something not meantioned anywhere in their marketing material). The stock Honda seat (front and back) is 3.6 kg (8 lb); the Corbin was 7.4 kg (16 lb). In the end, I had a custom leather job done locally for a lot less than half the price - by using the stock base and a hard "memory" foam (in the shape of the old farm tractor seats). See comparison pics of the 2 seats at: 1. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/John_Meara/ST1300/Ergo-Corbincomparo3.jpg 2. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/John_Meara/ST1300/Ergo-Corbincomparo2.jpg 3. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/John_Meara/ST1300/Ergo-Corbincomparo1.jpg The new custom seat quickly set-in to my shape and I can travel very long distances without getting soar.
