tanks for KLR650
Hi,
Does anyone know what oversized tanks exist that will fit a KLR650 (C model)? I can't see any Acerbis tanks for the KLR650, but I see one for the KLX650.. does this fit on a KLR650? Any other suggestions / manufacturers / links? Thanks, Colm |
A quick second search in the HUBB (I mis-spelled KLR in my first search.. :oops2:) reveals the following:

I'll likely have a KLR650C though (European model), and the tank capacity on that is just 14L (according to http://www.bigcee.com/faq/cmodel.html), compared to a theoretical 23L (6.1 US gal) on the A model, so the Acerbis tank (or even a stock A model tank, if it fits the KLR650C) would be a major improvement. I'm curious now about whether the same issue applies to the Dual Star tank. Does anyone have one? C. |
I have a C model with the acerbis tank. The stock tank took about 12L when I hit reserve and the Acerbis takes about 21L at reserve. When new it took about 24L so I assume I have at least a couple of liters on reserve.

Aha! So the Acerbis is a definite improvement on the stock C model tank then. Good news. Thanks for the info.
I bought the bike (like 2 hours ago), so this stuff is more than just an academic exercise now.. :lol2: |

I can't find a source for the Acerbis tank for the KLR650C. Where did you source yours? I've got the following part numbers, but google can't do much with them: green tank: 0001600.130 red tank: 0001600.110 Any help appreciated.. Colm |
I got mine from a Adventure Bike place in Seattle.... can't think of the name right now but it was the last one they had and they are no longer in production. Ebay might be your best bet or some European websites.

Well that explains the distinct lack of a source!
I just received the details for the UK Acerbis distributor (and kudos to Acerbis in Italy for getting back to me so quickly on the query), so I fired off an email to them. If the tank is out of production, my chances are slllliiiimmmm, but we'll see. ebay might be the next best place to start looking alright! |
Tank For a "C"

Did you manage to find a tank for a C model, I have put a deposit on a "C" model but didnt realise it was a "C" until i came home and started reading up a bit on it. Do you think I should go look for my money back? I am planning to tour OZ with and would prefer the larger tank for obv reasons. Thanks for your help A Paddy in OZ |
Hi.
Sorry about the delay.. I haven't been logged in for a while. In the end, I got a tank from an A model (same as the B - Tengai, except the A tank doesn't have the tabs on top for the fairing). Thats a bunch bigger than the C model. There are only a few probs with the C model, and most can be fixed: 1) small tank - put the tank from an A model on it (seat will need to be bodged to fit, and C engine bars will no longer fit). 2) skinny rear subframe, and associated puny rear luggage capacity.. you can weld up a supporting bar onto the rear subframe, or just try to minimise the weight! 3) less availability for after-market stuff.. most of the stuff comes from the US, and it's all A models over there. I've kitted my C out successfully, but it's required some minor alterations (for the new engine guard, for instance) to make it work, and the engine bars in particular were hard to come by (mine no longer fit, so they might be up for sale). 4) Lack of screen - aftermarket givi screen for £10 on ebay! Hi Michelle, Any problems with the toolbox located on the bash plate? Looks handy but it may be a bit vulnerable. I may do it myself if you have not had any problems.

Tool Tube
No probs with it at all. Mine is probably a bit long for the width of the bike but it fits the spanners, zip ties, a 17in inner tube, tyre levers, sockets etc. Practical for the longer tools. And I didn't manage to knock it around at all except when I dropped it in a river crossing and scuffed the end of it.
I just used a bit of heavy duty drainage pipe that was lying around fellow overlanders, Chris and Erin Ratay's, garage, glued an end cap on one end and an inspection cap (Not sure what they're called but basically an end piece with a screw off cap) on the other end. Three hose clips threaded through the bash plate, job done. |
so is there any chance of few pics to see the tanks installed on a c model as i am hoping to do the same myself
