2007 640 adventures problems
 

In another post about 640 adventure problems I read a lot of problems. Most of these seemed to be with pre-2004 bikes. I am seriously considering the 640 amongst a couple others for an RTW and want to make sure this is a wise choice. Any word on the performance/problems of the newer 640 adventures?

I've got a 2007 model with 2000 miles on it! off to Norway next week to add some more.
Very impressed with the whole thing, from the build quality/paint finsh/ quality of brakes and suspension to the whole KTM attitude to servicing/back up.
It goes like stink (for a single), handles awesome, is even a good UK green laner (due to the ground clearance), Reasonable spares prices and available quickly! £140 for a service at the dealer including good qaulity Fully synetic Oil and all parts and VAT.

The machine feels solid and is very well engineered. There is a reason why so many are used as privateers in the Dakar!
The machine is 10 times the bike of the comparable Yamaha or BMW but not twice the price, nor does it need extras for overlanding as they are already there!

Quick question, a bit off topic but not completely, for KTMANDY:-

Who is the great service agent/dealer near to York?

The reason I ask is that the whole KTM dealer network in the UK is a bit sparse on the ground (maybe it is worldwide as well Ross?)

Thanks guys, after all the mind bending thoughts and reading I have decided to go with the 640. I love it and I can't wait to get to know it.

Nice choice Ross, I reckon KTM are getting better every year and they really seem to learn the lessons and move on much quicker than some other manufacturers. There was a big article somewhere or other here in the UK about their future plans and they were very forward thinking with developments intended for every type of bike including a road-going superbike.
I THINK I read (could be wrong on this one) that KTM are already producing more bikes than BMW and they may be the largest bike manuf in Europe therefore.
One of my riding partners has a 2006 LC4 Adv and he has had no problems that I know of - racked up 5500 miles in about 3 weeks, UK-Marocco recently.

Back from Guatemala
 

Well guys, I took my 640 down to Guat and back to Kentucky. I had a few minor problems that all thankfully worked out.

1st and luckily in Houston on the way down the counter shaft seal blew. quick and easy fix

2nd ripped off a valve stem. Too low pressure with a loaded bike thankfully I kept the bike up and last

As I pulled into my driveway once home the slave cylinder gave out... Literally as I pulled up I couldn't shift...

All this was covered by warranty....

Just last week developed a fuel leak from the pressure relief line from the carb. Looks like a a bad needle or float... Again warranty...

Leaving for a RTW in Jan. if all goes as planned. For now I wont do much different. I will take along a new slave cylinder, an extra counter shaft seal and O ring... and a mess of gaskets. All cheap and worth having along on the ride...

I really loved the 07 640 ADV. Very reliable at least for me... :thumbup1:
