640 - Inlet Tappets from 6 to 40 thou in 2,500km
Er, I'd noticed it had got a bit noisier.
Inlets had increased from 6 to 40 thou in 2,500km. I've done 1,800km in the last 3 days. the engine has now done 39,500km in a yearish. i've serviced it today and there was a lot more metal on the magnetic sump/oil filter thingies. Is it a sign of incipient top end failure or just my lousing servicing? Any one with similar experiences? ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |
Just a techno thought - you could always get the metal particles analysed to help determine where they came from?! (although analysis whilst OTR in S/America could be a problem!)

Mystery solved.
fwit the bearing on the inlet rocker arm had seized, unfortunately it has buggered the camshaft lobe so both need to be replaced. I am also replacing the exhaust rocker arm, the steering head bearings (again) plus chain and sprockets, shocks bottom bush. I am glad it is nothing more serious. I now just have to wait for the bits to arrive from Germany. Jerome ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |
