i bought one of those cdi units out of the ktm hardware catalogue.after 6 months it started "ticking" loudly. the bike still ran ok but i took it off and put the standard one back on. just waiting for the standard one to start ticking now.

I'm quite confused. I have a 2000 640 Adventure-R in the USA and thats the problem. I've contacted quite a few dealers here and nobody seems to know anything about this CDI.
I need to get the CDI that allows me to run low octane fuel. The part number that my bike currently has is 584.39.031.200. My spare parts manual says that the low octane unit is 584.39.031.300, but the only other one available here is 584.39.031.500 which comes standard on the 2003 model 640 Adventure. I'm not sure what to do? Will that last one work? Also, once I do have the correct CDI, what do I do to change between High and Low Octane settings?(detailed description please) Sorry to trouble everyone, but I don't know where else to turn. Thanks! ------------------ Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement, are roads of Genius - William Blake |
Thanks Jerome! He sent me a detailed service bulleting showing how to change between low and high octane settings. Also the 584.39.031.500 which comes standard on the 2003 model 640 Adventure uses a different wiring harness acorrding to KTM-USA and they are not sure if it will work. I guess I'll have to order part number 584.39.031.300 from Germany. I've been quoted $350 US with shipping to USA. If anyone knows of a better deal, please let me know. Thanks again Jerome!
